Thanks for posting this vid. It is helping me pick my next mods. Can't wait to hear the exhaust. Just got a 2017 BRZ Series Yellow last week. So far I've added the MTEC shift springs and the mud guards. Will be adding exhaust soon and one of the tuning options. I do like Ecu Tek. I had their software on my WRX.

I got the MXP Comp RS Ti Tips from FT86SpeedFactory. I swore I'd never spend money on an exhaust just to make my car sound better, but I guess that changed when I heard this. watch?v=Vma8Pbbidug Oh, and my Cusco pedal came today!
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Nice, that exhaust looks pretty sweet. Any idea how much it weighs? I might change up mine eventually because the custom one is kind of janky and exits the wrong side for a single exit...
@hammer86_7 жыл бұрын
I don't see any info on the weight. I'll let you know when I get it. Shipped today.

You should look into installing an air oil separator and billet power blocks from crawford performance to get more hp as well as increasing reliability.

Sounds like some decent upgrades. However, with the autocross class I race in, I am limited to what mods I can do to the car to stay legal.

Hi Justin, do you keep the extra tires under the car while it is on stands for extra safety? Also, please do a review of the new Ecutek tuner.
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Yes. I try to leave tires under there as well as one of the jacks still braced against a support point. Can never be too safe. Sure, I can do an ECUtek review eventually, when I learn it more :)

Hey Justin.. were you able to make a comparison with the OEM replacements? I read that Subaru uprated both intake and exhaust so I was just wondering why you replaced the parts and how are you certain the replacements are better than stock? Thanks!!
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
The Grimmspeed intake is probably not much of an improvement over stock to be honest. The exhaust parts are for sure. The stock header has a built in catalytic converter, the RevWorks does not (much better exhaust flow). The stock header is also an equal length style vs un-equal length (different power delivery characteristics). The rest of the aftermarket exhaust piping is less restrictive and also lighter weight. Lighter weight is a big factor, especially with the header and cat-back. I took the car to the dyno to get the stock power numbers, check out the video if you missed it. I will be taking the car back to the same dyno here soon, so I will have the "after" engine upgrades power numbers. That will show exactly how effective all the upgrades are. I did the same things for my FRS, if you go back through the videos for that car (see playlist).
@zezimastr34567 жыл бұрын
Hey man love ur vids, did the UEL headers gave you a check engine light? just wondering
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I do not have a check engine light because the ECU is also tuned for it. If you just throw on a catless header you will probably get a check engine light. I think, if you get a header that still has a catalytic converter in it (like stock), you would not get a CEL.
@KillirBeard6 жыл бұрын
I am curious as to how the heat from the new header was. I mean since all the other parts have heat shields and stuff? Did you see engine bay temperatures go up?

Does the ECUtek utilize the otf. Or does it have its own tablet or interface for the car. I'm looking to get some sort of interface come the summer and was interested in your thoughts between the two. Does the ECUtek have a working format for the 17 yet? Love your videos. It's a great template for me to follow with mine.
@spoof22817 жыл бұрын
OFT and ECUtek are completely different, ECUtek is more in depth, while OFT is an easier and cheaper option.
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments! Basically what Rog Estratir said. OFT is a simple and cheap way to do basic tuning of the car with free "off the shelf" tunes that work with most mods (or stock). All you need is the tablet and the cable it comes with. ECUtek is a little more complicated (and expensive). You need a laptop plus the required software. However, it has a whole bunch more features and capabilities that OpenFlash does not have. I ran OFT for a year and a half on both my FRS and the new BRZ and it works great for most applications. I just switched to ECUtek on my 2017 BRZ because I need the added features for racing.

Justin's Pit Lane ok great to know. I really don't plan on racing the car on a track so the oft is probably more what I would need. If you're ever in the market to sell. I'd be interested. 🙂

Yep, OFT would do just fine. I already sold mine, but you can find them used all the time on the ft86club sale forums (that's where I got mine).

What does the positive shift kit bushing do? Looks like it just holds the transmission housing in place. Does it usually just hang? I just bought a BRZ same colour as yours to learn manual, so I'm curious if it helps that aspect.
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it fills the gap where the transmission mount is. Which results in less play, or give, when the transmission is moving around during shifting and acceleration. It makes things a bit more tight and crisp. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you are just starting out, the stock car will be more forgiving.

Awesome vid Justin! I'm surprised you didn't have any issues fitting the bolt ons due to the facelift. I heard some problems on forums with borla uels being an inch off from fitting the 2017s. Also I'm looking to mod my brz when I get one this summer :), and was wondering what you believe to be the best rim size/tires for a stock suspension setup. Also do you think the intake/OP/FP were worth the money? Lastly, when do you plan on tuning your car? Keep it up w the vids btw love them!
@davidsp51937 жыл бұрын
Ignore the part with the Intake and over/front pipes. My questions were answered in the comments
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments! No issues at all, the engine is nearly identical from a bolt-on parts point of view. I think a standard 17x7 or a 17x8 size rim is pretty common for stock suspension. Those should fit a 225/235 sized tire, but I personally have never ran anything other than stock size and my 17x9 wheels. So, take that with a grain of salt :) For the bolt-ons, I would actually skip doing an intake. The stock intake is good and all you really need is a drop-in filter. I am actually going to put my stock air box back in the car. The rest are worth it, header/OP/FP/exhaust. HRI Tuning has been tuning my car, it is pretty much done.

Was there a noticeable difference from the bushing upgrades, and the positive shift kit? If so what is the difference you notice? TIA
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Yes, they all improve feedback. Basically you feel more through the steering wheel and through the shifter, because more of the movement is being translated back to the wheel/shifter since there is no soft rubber absorbing it before it gets to your hands. Good upgrades for sure, paired with the rear subframe and diff bushing inserts it really changes the car.

Thanks for leaving the mistakes in the video. It really does help others identify common mistakes. I think if you had the car on the ground, Really yanked the Parking brake, and put the car into 6th gear you will be able to yank the crank pulley bolt loose. The instructions are strange. First torque to some ft pounds and then rotate like 90 degrees from that point.
@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
Can't learn without making mistakes :) Maybe that was it, I did not have the car on the ground. I did have it in 6th gear and pretty sure the e-brake was engaged. I'll try it again this weekend. Can't remember if I had it on the ground when I did my FRS, but that was pretty easy in that car.

@TheBTRGarage7 жыл бұрын
They are more of an insurance upgrade than anything. Keeps the alignment in place better and doesn't flex under heavy cornering. It is noticeable but only very slightly. For the cost and ease of installation they are definitely worth it.
