I’ve been loving the turbo kit on my BRZ for 3 years. The 86 should’ve come this way from the factory, it only improves the car. Of course getting much wider rubber than stock is a mist afterwards. I was on stock wheels/tires for a few months with the turbo and it was pretty sketchy.

Just get an aftermarket oil pan. The FA already has issues with oil starvation if you turn right too much. The oil pan is going to be a much bigger issue than the internals in terms of running risks making power.

A turbo does use energy from the engine. On the exhaust stroke, the piston has to travel upward, pushing the exhaust gases out. The more restriction the exhaust gases have, the harder the piston has to push to expel the gases. That is taking power from the crank. A turbo increases the resistance the exhaust gases experience, and therefore take more force to expel, and take power from the crank. It just isn't as much power as a supercharger, but a turbo isn't exactly free boost.

To me a supercharge has less complexity in terms of invasiveness to the the engine components because most sc kits like jackson and kraftwerks uses it's only oil system and in general yes they have less potential to make crazy power but sc has the immediacy of power and have less heat production. in my opinion the sc is better as a track application.

I have a 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 automatic that has 58,000 miles because I drove it to school everyday for over an hour. I think I have owned it for three years now? Unfortunately, I wasted ten years of my life going to school to get a bachelor's degree in the U.S. in December 2018. I did an amazing Summer internship in 2019. Now I have no job and not making any money during coronavirus apocalypse tribulation. For the past few months, I have been learning more about cars and making a parts list for my Genesis Coupe to get it to 440+ wheel power someday. It doesn't look like I will have the money anytime soon. Over a week ago, I start looking into the GT86/BRZ/FR-S. When I see these cars on the road, I usually think, "It's another annoying kid in a brz/frs. Nothing amazing. move on." Which they usually are those kids. But the more research I do and videos I watch, I think I would rather have this car than my Genesis right now. Only if I had extra money for mods. Let me tell you the main reasons. 1. Yes, those are usually annoying kids who drive them, but this car has so much support and modifications that it can be transformed into a car that is beyond what high school and college kids drive. 2. Again, this car has support. All of the support for the Genesis Coupe is very small because the car is no longer manufactured, and the Infiniti Q60 is a better deal than Genesis cars now. The few turbo kits and modifications are very expensive (Remnant Performance being the cheapest and best I would be able to do someday). It is difficult to find anyone in Dallas area who works on Genesis Coupe like the they do with Subaru and the Evo cars, Mustangs, etc. 3. This car is super light and apparently handles well in turns. 4. There are stage 3 built motor blocks that I could have a shop install on this BRZ/86 car, and if I add a turbo kit and ECU and other supporting mods on top of that, I could reach the 440 to 500 whp I hope to experience someday. Not only this, but a car that weights this much and had that much wheel power would smoke some Porsches. I saw a video of a BRZ/86 beating a GT-R (GTR is one of my favorite cars). Of course the GTR was probably not heavily tuned, but the thought of that as a daily driver is what I need.

Ball bearing doesn't "flow more air", they just spin easier, leading to earlier boost compared to journal.
@fentanylmcflurry56336 жыл бұрын
also , a wastegate will always open when the port on the wastegate "sees" the pressure that the spring is rated at. in order too run a higher boost pressure you have to manipulate what the wastegate "sees". This is what a boost controller does and you dont actually need one with external wastegates at all as you can just swap springs
@Arolbreaker6 жыл бұрын
jess Wastegates aren't off/on valves. They're progressive valves that crack open before the spring pressure is reached. They act as a "brake" of sorts for the turbocharger. They don't exactly open right at spring pressure and remain closed after that. A boost controller, especially an electronic one, aids in decreasing spool time by bypassing the air that would "crack" open the wastegate, and allowing the air in once target boost pressure is reached. While it is true that you can swap out springs to change boost levels, that often isn't practical. Sometimes the wastegate lies in an uncomfortable location. Boost controllers come in several flavors and some you can get for as cheap as 20-25$ on eBay and they work perfectly fine and don't fail after years of use.

I find this video very useful. I am about to buy my brz but I've heard alot about blowning turbo brz engines. You said it would be good to modify valves and fuel pump, etc etc. I have found the auction without such modifications. Full spec is: Turbo FullBlownMotorsports USA installation. Power 300KM. FBM cooler. Oil cooler. Full Nur-Spec Exhaust. Front Alcon 6 piston brakes. Tein suspension with hardness adjustment. Rays Gray Lights Extreme Rims . Toyo R888 tires. it has around 40000 of mileage. Do you think the engine might be a wreck just after this? Is buying an used one a good choice? Especially with turbo installed? Is this setup something worth looking (I am not an mechanic so modding myself would cost me extra $, here everything is set up). How can I check engine before a transaction?

Excellent video, not planning on boosting but would like to see a supercharger vid. As crazy as it sounds I've considered an intercooled na build after doing more work to reduce underhood temps.
@Plsgetajob6 жыл бұрын
Edwin Craig not to sound like one of those know-it-all’s or anything like that, but I don’t see why anyone would do that. That’s practically unheard of because it would only obstruct the flow of air into the engine and add more bends, thus requiring a huge length of intake piping. I’m probably trading my FRS at the end of the year for an S2000, but if I were to build something NA for the track, I’d consider things like hood vents/brake ducts and oil coolers as well as an upgraded radiator to help cool the engine under prolonged pressure and heat. Maybe a transmission cooler as well, but at least an oil cooler and an upgraded radiator. If searching for NA power, Intake/Header/Exhaust and a tune is gonna provide the most gains (mostly Header and tune), anything else like those billet power blocks and whatnot will add marginal power that won’t even be noticed.
@edwincraig5356 жыл бұрын
Marcos Diaz I agree with what you are saying, mine is used as a daily driver and occasional fun on twisty roads. I considered autocross but not close enough to me. The air here in Louisiana is humid and oxygen rich, we don't have desert temperatures but it gets quite hot here. That said I would be doing it to reduce intake temperatures to increase volumetric efficiency, mostly for gas mileage purposes as I drive 60 miles one way to work. It's an expensive modification for potentially very little gain but it has crossed my mind. I got the idea from the guys intercooling na motors packed with dry ice on the Bonneville salt flats trying to make times by freezing the air in the intake before it got to the motor. Who knows, if I did it and I felt froggy I could put a nitrous ring in front of the intercooler to do the same thing in a neck and neck race to slightly pull at the finish. It's all an expensive daydream but I have had the thought. Just throwing it out there to gauge reaction or see if it's been done yet.
