Installing Corsa Performance Headers on 2015+ Mustang GT

Today I'm going to show you how to install Corsa Performance Headers for the 2015-2017 Ford Mustang GT. My particular Mustang is a 2016 with the performance pack, a ProCharger Stage 2 kit and my existing exhaust setup is the 3" Corsa Xtreme Cat-Back. Overall I'm happy with how it came out. The part number for these headers is Corsa PN 16017.

What are those 2 pieced pipe adapters you have on there? I cant find anything to go from my headers to the oem clamps

Those clamps came with the adapter pipes to reach the corsa 3" exhaust. My cat-back isn't OEM. I believe there are two versions of the kit, one with the connection pipes and without. If you're mating this up to the OEM exhaust you might need to fab something since it's smaller OD. I'm sure someone has done this on the forums.

@@s550joe3 Hmmm are you sure that's for OEM? On their website they only have the $300 for the 3" OD pipes (like aftermarket Corsas), but maybe I didn't look hard enough. I was just on it looking it up for ya. That's the setup I have. Even for the $300 to be honest it's still one of the cheaper yet really high quality header setups. Pipe isn't super cheap, especially to pay someone to weld, but yea $300 feels a little high.

Thanks for watching Jerry! When I first threw the PC on with a race gas blend (with 93 base) and a slightly hotter tune that ProChargerTECH sent me I did 662whp. Since then I got the new fuel system, headers, etc... and an even more aggressive straight race gas (sunoco 260 gt plus 104). So it should be a bit higher than that. Overall I’m easily $60k+ in this with cost of car. This is at near $0 labor cost, I only paid for an alignment and tire mounting since purchase. With labor it would have been significantly more expensive.

@@DmitrysGarage Thanks I have had a leak that sounds like rushing air on deceleration an you can hear it a little over the Xtreme catback ok acceleration. I think it is from that flange area.

@@TheBizz47274 Could be! Check out if there is any soot in that area which might indicate a leak. These things will pretty much shut off fuel injection as you're decelerating with most tunes, so that does change the sound a bit too. Headers definitely affect the sound quite a bit.

You can definitely add headers without an air intake. Tuning wise I would check with your tuner if you have a tune today. You can definitely throw codes if you go catless for example. Lund did my tuning and their comments were: All exhaust items are accounted for with no revision required with our tune loaded. We already shut off Cat Overtemp and there is OE adaptive O2 transport delay for if the O2s get moved aft of stock location. So if you have Lund tune already you may be GTG.

Timothy Williams, It is paired with the xtreme exhaust. Its very very loud. If you have your windows down and drive wide open throttle next to a concrete median or wall it will literally deafen you. Your neighbors will hate you if you run it early or late. If you want headers of any type the xtreme corsa will be very very loud. Its fine if its a track car like mine, but its definitely not a recommended setup for a daily. Get the corsa sport with headers for a daily.

Everything went smoothly with me until i wanted to unplug the o2 sensors😖 only one came out and the rest are very tough i cant unplug them and my thumb is destroyed I barely can touch my keyboard haha, I live in a very sandy and gritty area (saudi arabia) btw and need ur help

When you say unplug you mean unscrew from the factory headers or unplug from the wire harness to use the extensions? If its unscrewing then it can be quite hard. I recommended adding some heat carefully and worst case just buy new ones :(.

I would talk to your tuner as it will depend on your particular situation. Assuming you have a stock tune you should get a tune to get the most out of your headers/intake/etc... Most tunes should work with headers because these cars have wideband O2 sensors and the computer will re-tune on the fly. However, I would at the minimum unplug the battery for a bit to reset the computer's learned fuel trims and I'd data log to make sure everything looks good. I'd be checking the lambda/afr values, knock, total spark advance, etc... If you're going cat-less it will throw emissions codes without a retune. I was able to use my stock ProCharger tune for a little bit without logging any knock or bad AFRs and it did make more power. I did get with Lund pretty quickly since I also installed a new return fuel system after the headers.

You don't necessarily lose your warranty from a tune, but it definitely adds risk if you have powertrain problems later. Helps to work with a mod friendly dealer, but ultimately it's Ford who decides what they pay for so there aren't any guarantees. My car is obviously far too modified for any warranty.

Philip, if it's in the way you will have to really super carefully bend it back. If you're too aggressive you will break it. Just take your time. On some cars its more of an issue than others.

Does it smell like fuel while driving

Catless headers will smell like fuel behind the car and in the garage under power enrichment (heavy throttle) and during open loop on a cold startup. In closed loop at idle/puttering around you will be at near perfect stoich, these cars are so good at tuning themselves at idle. That means all the fuel will be burnt off in the engine, and it won't really smell like fuel or much of anything. However like I said during startup and while in power enrichment it will emit fuel smell, generally you wont notice it inside the car unless you have an exhaust leak under it and it's getting up through open windows or open holes in the floor panel (i.e. if you leave your fuel pump exposed). Others behind you might notice it. I've had friends not enjoy following me when I'm accelerating due to the rich mix under wide open throttle (power enrichment).

Na it's a track car. The headers def make things louder, cats or no cats doesn't make as much difference. If you want manageable sound you need a quiet cat-back. With any headers I would rank Corsa products as: Headers + Corsa Xtreme = Bleeding ears, but amazing at full throttle. If you daily this setup your neighbors will hate your guts if you drive at night. Headers + Corsa Sport = Still loud, but won't wake the dead unless you're full throttle. Could daily and not have neighbors absolutely hate you. Headers + Corsa Touring = Fairly muffled at idle, great daily setup, no real performance drawbacks unless you're making stupid high power. Still sounds great, not as exciting, but your neighbors won't hate you.

I love how all the videos on installing headers on the S550 GTs conveniently leave out the actual details of removing the passenger side header. Just removed it myself for the first time today - this piece is a bitch and you HAVE to remove studs to get the header out due to the AC line...people just happen to gloss over this in all their nice vids/descriptions...why, I have no idea. Would have been nice to know how much of a PITA it was going to be trying to snake the E8 socket onto the studs...

The passenger side is harder, how hard depends on a combination of tools available and how the factory ac line is bent. I did mention in the video that I had to bend my line slightly.

​@@DmitrysGarage Yes, the 'right' tools will make it easier, but I really wish you and the rest of the youtube how-to's out there would show/spend more time on the passenger header removal. I think simply stating how you had to bend the A/C line in 4 seconds worth of time in a video that is over half an hour is a convenient oversight. How-to vids shouldn't just make everything look easy with cuts on the difficult stuff, if anything they should highlight the difficult portions, just like you cautioned on being careful with the stud removal due to the aluminum block, why not show the header hitting the A/C line and then showing how you bent it to get it to clear? What about removal of the starter? Don't get me wrong, your video is informative and well put together, but I feel like too much effort is put into making these videos look seamless and clean rather than actually providing insight into the difficult parts of an install. Just my .02 as a fellow Coyote modder and enthusiast who isn't a professional mechanic.

Thanks for watching and commenting! The engine lifting process is literally lifting the engine with a jack, it is as simple as it sounds. It's not directly bolted to the chassis, its mounts allow it to flex quite a bit to dampen vibration. You will be able to move an engine up a significant distance to create clearance before the mount runs out of travel and starts to lift the chassis (don't let it do that!) It's also a good idea to use a wood block or ensure that there is a nice soft rubber pad to spread the load out and avoid damaging the pan. This is a relatively involved install and my assumption is that most attempting this are familiar with jacking the engine up. Similarly I don't cover fine details of processes like jacking or lifting the car, which also have significant considerations for both safety and avoiding damage to the vehicle.

Those are so FRUSTRATING! Keep at it. You will get them. Try smaller wrenches or even cut a wrench in half. I did another install for a buddy and i have a slightly bent cut in half wrench with grip tape on it for a “custom tool” now.
