Tip from Australia. Put a pole with a lockable hinge on the roof at the back and the front. Have it so that a rope or cable can run from pole to pole. Then drape a tarp, groundsheet or whatever over the caravan. Keep the fabric off the skin of the caravan. Your objective is airflow across the surface of the skin and no direct sunlight. You will be astonished how much cooler and liveable the caravan will be. Should reduce the temperature by 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

My wife and I are enjoying your shows and your Terry remodel. A word of caution, IMHO. Most of these trailers and "weak" in the chassis capability. Axles are close to being under rated for weight, bushings are dry, wheels are out of alignment, and on and on. I'd think all the improvements you are making are adding weight to the unit. You may want to consider upgrades on the axles, springs (to include wet bushings) and shock absorbers. The weight capacities for the trailer should be noted on the outside of the trailer somewhere. And realize the dry weight noted does not include full tanks. Water and waste weigh a lot! Best of luck to you and I look forward to your next video!

Trent and Allie....as 2 of your longtime followers and with some Sage Wisdom...i Highly highly concur what Rob here is recommending. I've renovated alot of homes and 2 of the most Important things are 'Structure (in this instance, frame, axles, bushings, leaf bars) and Roof'. Google YT around..you'll deduce how to fix 'some' of it yourself much cheaper than a mechanic....

I started painting the ceiling with an airless hand sprayer. After three square yards my arm was about to fall off, Went to the equipment rental store and got an airless sprayer that pulled paint out of a can on the floor. Previously I had covered the floor in plastic so when I kicked the can of paint there was a half inch of paint slowly flowing toward the edge of the plastic. Spread cat litter on the puddle to soak it up. OK, back to painting. Then I stepped in the puddle so my foot has paint and cat litter on it. But, I can't stop until I am finished with 1000 square feet of ceiling the walls, and seven gallons. Washed the foot and went to the car to sit down for a nap. Wife and two kids went to grandma's for the day. I called them and said to go out for dinner and stay for the night, see you in the morning.

May of 1978, our family relocated not far from where ya’ll are...Fillmore, UT. Hubby was working in oilfield on a geothermal well, I believe. So I packed the 4 girls and myself, we only took summer clothes...sandals, shorts, light jackets, etc. Somewhere in the first week of June it snowed a foot and a half! 😳 And my husband got his company truck stuck going to location. He called and wanted me to drive our 4-wheel drive out to Cove Fort, so he could use it. The 4 girls, ages 3 months to 6 had to spend the entire day huddled around a pot belly stove in a little country store, with nothing to eat but candy bars, chips, cokes, etc. They were bouncing off the walls, but I digress! So, I’ll testify that Utah has some pretty crazy weather fluctuations! You guys are doing a great job on this project! I love all your choices so far. Good call on the stain color!

Hi guys As a old fellow caravanner for 15yrs, I have a few tips 1. Clean out a place in the barn for all the caravan pieces, seems silly to move it every day when you have a huge barn. 2 Put anchors on the dangling light switch at the rafter, then remove the 2x4 and bend the conduit up to clear your heads, then put a motion switch on there for whenever you walk in. 3. You will need A/C since surroundings change. Your Terry has a vent for it in the middle, new ones are efficient and quieter than before, some now have heat strip so as not use furnace. 4 In the video, your rubber roof is old and oxidizing, I used elastomeric rubber roof paint and put several coats over the rubber roof to prolong the $1000+ they get to replace it. Love the paint and floor, and now you guys are inspiring me to fix mine up a little. Thanks

Project is looking good. That floating flooring needs an expansion gap near the walls/cabs of 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Cover it with quarter round. Especially in a trailer with hot and cold extremes having it tight like that seems like a good idea, but you'll get shrinkage, bowing, and warping. The foam underlayment would have helped insulate a bit and keep it from shifting. Used to sell the stuff for a living.
@verasileikis174 жыл бұрын
It’s such a nice face. The beard is partially concealing it. The beard holds in some heat. It also holds other stuff like food, micro particles of who knows what, etc. Trent is a grown man that can do what he wants, but not everyone is a fan of beards. I suppose that a beard in the winter makes sense to some, but sweat, and other things dripping from and clinging to a beard is not pretty. This is just one persons opinion. Terry seems to be getting more beautiful by the minute!

I did a similar flooring in my basement and had some pretty interesting cuts, but getting that one by your sink with the door jamb on the first try? Nice job.

Ok, that was a blast! Am I the 5,498th person who wondered why you didn’t cover that beautiful new flooring before you painted? That’s just me... lol! Seriously, it is looking FINE!! drinking lots of water will get u thru the worst heat. I much prefer dry heat tho. Southern Oregon is known for that! Thanks for a great chapter of this amazing journey!❤️

I sympathize! It is too hot to work in hot weather! I made sure that I got all of the work outside in the morning. We had the same heat here! 103 yesterday, 105 the day before! Today it is cool and breezy! The rain usually misses us. I'll send our cool breezes out to you! I love your dark counter tops and flooring against the light walls and cabinets! Your little home is going to look tres chic!

Why don't you deploy the awning?
@zanesutherland4064 жыл бұрын
I don’t use mine because we get bad winds at random times. Our friend who is staying on the property once left his awning out and the whole covering ripped off and flew into our field 😬
@gebi4pejo14 жыл бұрын
Tie it down on the ends weigh a couple of straps, that’s what we do in Australia and when it gets too windy roll it in and we never leave an awning out if we are not there.

We put in laminate flooring in our 25 year old motorhome, and it transformed the unit. Congrats on your installation of a new floor.

Why don't you open the awning, shading one side will help cool it down a bit.

I can relate with your painting over the wallpaper. I was repainting an old home. It had layers and layers (and layers) of previous generations of wallpaper. Then there were the walls that needed the plaster restored. One room had a grass wallpaper. The decision was made to prime and paint over the grass wallpaper. I thought the primer and paint might loosen the glue of the wallpaper. It didn't. But, it did suck down a lot of primer, and the final look was amazing. Your paining is going to make Terry look even more amazing. Your success with the fan, counters, and flooring are great with the white, but "the future look" is going to be incredible!

Allie, a trick I learned in Africa, also dry heat where I lived, was to spay water in front of the fan. This cools the air quite dramatically. It’s important to spray your skin throughout the day as the dry heat really dries out your skins. Especially Trent, as he’s a redhead. If you can get a spray that includes Hylaronic Acid and other ingredients that cool and moisturise the skin, so much the better

Why don’t you just move the table away from the hanging outlet?

I refurbished my 1957 Shasta travel trailer. Because it’s a vintage classic it’s good to keep it as original as possible, which was fine because it has an amazing layout and beautiful, real wood. Like you, however, I didn’t like the rubber around all the cabinets so I cut it all off and replaced it with wood trim. The floor was 1950’s cool but had asbestos so I ripped it up with a heat gun, laid a new sub floor on top of the old and put down very expensive Marmoleum from Sweden. You don’t need a heated floor if you use rugs, which also collects the dirt better and cleans up with a good shake out. I stripped all the cracking lacquer off the wood, sanded and now use Howard’s to feed and wax it often - gorgeous. I used vinyl dye to refurbish and protect the classic, basket weave vinyl on the dinettes and sofa bed. Then took a nail to scrape it in a test to see how it holds up. Nothing, stuff is like Teflon. I replaced the counter and table tops cuz of many cigarette burns. Stripped the brown paint off the wall heater and then sanded it to make it look like diamonds. Then hit it with engine lacquer (500 degrees) and it looks amazing. Made new drapes. Repaired the gas lines, then pulled down the gas lamp that was right in the middle of the dinette and kept gouging the crud out of our heads. Stripped the paint off the exterior and had it repainted in its classic pattern. So, ya, I feel your pain. I would so live in her if life weren’t so damn demanding and I didn’t have 13 rescue animals.

Same thing is happening in northern AZ right now. It went from chilly at night and having the heater on low to over 90F in just a couple days. Not being able to acclimate makes such a huge difference. Terry is looking great!

Hi folks, I really love what you are doing to the caravan or whatever you cal it over there. I do have three questions: 1. Why are you painting after putting in the floor? What if you drop drips of paint on your beautiful new floor? 2. Are you going to put solar panels on the roof? 3. What are your plans for your campervan down south in storage? I must say I am very impressed with what you have done so far and look forward to seeing the new colours.
