@@SailingYaba Not exactly conduit but self-amalgamating tape is highly UV resistant. It's not adhesive but as you peel off the backing and stretch it to twice its length (approx) it bonds to itself as you wind it around the cables. Overlap it about 50% as you go. Takes a bit of practice but easy once you get the hang of it. I used it on the outdoor cables for my airconditioning. It's on a flat roof in bright mediterranean sunshine all day long and it's still good six years later. Start by cutting a nick in the very end of the tape and stretch it a little into a "V". You should then be able to peel the plastic tape backing free.

Just a small point - white cable zip ties will degrade over time when exposed to UV from the Sun. The black ones are usually UV resistant.

When Ben said "welcome to Scottish summers", all I could think of was that line from Braveheart when he wanted to take the girl for a ride and it was raining "Oh, it's good Scottish weather, madam. The rain is falling straight down. Well, slightly to the side like."

Don't worry, guys! Whether you're still at that anchor or not, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you set sail when YOU feel ready to. Also, you're clearly excited to get moving, so just make sure you're safe enough to do it. When it's time, you'll do it and we'll cheer you on 😊!

Congrats again, you guys. Every video, you guys get a little closer to full-on sailing. Be patient, Ben. I know you've BEEN patient for the past 3.5 years. Lol. I wanna SEE Yabá sailing, too. I can only imagine how badly you wanna get out there and SAIL her. But rushing leads to mistakes. Take the time to fix the sail properly. Get all the little tiny things all taken care of. No matter how small. A small problem on a sailboat out in the middle of an ocean can get big real quick. I know I'm preaching to the choir. Just be careful not to let your excitement make you take risky chances... Anyways. You guys are awesome! I'm SO happy for you!

to be honest with you that depth finder that should've been one of the first things that you had on the boat when you launched it, that's crazy you having a boat that big with LA depth finder. You are lucky you did not ripped out that bottom of the boat,that does show your experience with boating, you really do need some classes I am 100% sure of that, there is so much to know about boating about Belize there is a lot you should learn. And I would recommend for you to start immediately. The boat is looking beautiful keep up your adventures I'm sure you will remember them for a lifetime

A suggestion for conduit for the wires, use some of the flexible water pipe.Of course whatever you use needs to able to handle being in the sun all the time.
@robm.45122 ай бұрын
We use split UPVC conduit for sail chafe protection on shrouds, there’s enough space within it for a cable run. If you can’t get hold of split conduit you could try using a table saw with a slim blade fitted to split normal upvc conduit. Cheers, R.

Good idea. There is also stuff called loom or split loom. Some even have velcro closure along the length. Comes in a range of sizes. I am in the USA so availability of this stuff is better. Maybe Amazon? There is also expanding sleeving but that stuff would be a pain to work with on such a long length and would require taking one end off the shroud off.

Nothing like sailing a dinghy off the shores of UK or Ireland. It's so good to learn in a dinghy. Perhaps MP could sign up for an RYA/ISA course on her next visit. The fundamentals are important. later, there are Day Skipper and Yachtmaster courses. In the meantime keep a log of the passages you make, that's part of further qualifications. Do you have a sailmaker who can check over the sails, re-stitch, repair, etc?

Another great episode. As you add electronics and wiring, especially when near the compass, you should consider having your compass adjusted after the work is completed. You have a chart plotter but one day it may not work, and you will have to rely on the compass for heading info.

Nice to be even closer! It would not be a good idea to have the window open over the chart plotter underway.
