TIP #2: When you're drilling or cutting through bright wood or a cosmetic surface, start by clamping a thin layer of plywood to the surface and work through that. Any slips will scar the disposable plywood and save your bright surface. Of course, you can fix just about anything. Great video.

Ben, that steering will be the bane of your existence the way its rigged. The load on those lines when you reverse is immense. I had a plastic sheave literally explode on my boat a few years ago when making an emergency reverse manœuvre. They're now bronze sheaves. You need swagged cable with turnbuckles. Not knots

I’ve watched you from the beginning of your journey with Yaba. I don’t think I have ever seen two people work so hard on what looked like a lost cause. You didn’t buy a boat really you have a deck and wheel house and the roof of what would become the interior of a boat. You had to replace everything below the deck. Your dedication and determination is to be admired. Your a great example for young people to follow your dreams no matter how hard you have to work or how many people say you can’t do it. You have proved them all wrong. I wish you nothing but the best as you realize your dream sailing the blue water of out beautiful planet. You should be very proud of the last four years. Not many can do what you did. Please stay safe and well and well and you follow your dreams.

Quick tip - On your steering lines especially, but also anywhere you’re attaching to anything like the metal tab on the rudder that can cause chafe, take an extra turn of the line through the hole in the tab. Same goes for if you’re attaching a line to a chain or a shackle and chafe may be an issue. Great episode, so good to see your dreams become reality. Big hug for MP. Your Grampa will always be a part of you, I have no doubt at all that he’d be so proud of what you’ve achieved. Take care of yourselves, R.😎👍🍻

I really do hope they understand the limits of their boat. A pleasure yacht for coastline cruises, and that they will never ever treat it as a blue water vessel. I like the enthusiasm and I hope they will post many more funny videos. Also, get rid off that ugly heavy dinghy. You will destroy your railings moving it up and down. It may have a sentimental value, but just cut the losses on that one.

That fishing rod due to the shape/style of the guides on it is meant for an overhead reel not a spinning/threadline reel thats on it. Overhead reel will hold more line which you will be thankful for on a larger fish and have a better drag system especially if you get a lever drag reel.

Oh come on, I love Yabá and the people who sail on her, which is why I am here. But why you would think other channels aren't "real" is beyond me. La Vagabonde may have two million subs, but that doesn't make them any different from any other channel featuring people trying to live on a boat and make it work. With various degrees of success. Yabá is one of my personal favourites. Another one is "Huub and Daniela", a Dutch-Colombian channel that actually has nearly 200,000 subs but somehow seems to be sailing, as it were, under the radar a bit. It doesn't really matter. I am an old man who's lived a long and eventful life already. Yabá , La Vagabonde and Huub and Daniela, among others, just make it possible to vicariously relive my own adventures of days now long past...

for your sawing of holes: take a scrap piece of 1" wood drill a hole in it same size same angle then center it on the hole you want to drill, start your hole with the scrap piece once the saw blade is below the surface on all sides, get ride of scrap piece and complete the hole! or save for the next hole. one rod simply won't do!

I can remember back to the days when antifoul paint really did the job it was meant to do. These days it is just an expensive waste of money! The barnacles etc. seem to thrive on it!! I have heard that the problem is that the paint manufacturers aren't allowed to use the same ingredients of old because of the marine environment. It's looking like us sailors will have to develop new strategies to keep our bottoms clean!

The steering lines will slack for you, the line connection to the rudder has to be a hallfcircle so that the centerpoint is at the rudder axis. In your case asbuilt with a straight bar connectin the lines - will cause slack in the non pulling line... causing the rudder to clunk or worse in high seas destroy the steering

Hi guys. I've watched all your blogs but at times I have no time to comment. A good idea on a yacht is the put a set of permanent ladders on the sides. As it is an all wood hull it should be easy enough. The amount of times I've heard every one joins you swimming. Safety reasons there's someone on board but they forget in their excitement that if they jump into the water, how the hell will you all get back on the yacht. Don't take a chance Ben. You have been good about safety features. Put a permanent ladder at the rear into the water or on the sides. It can fold up so it does not drag in the sea. As long as you can reach the safety lock that keeps the ladder out of the water, you are safe in case of being stranded in the sea so you can watch the yacht sail away because a strong wind has caused the anchor to slide. Don't take a chance mate. We want you all safe. People when excited can do silly things at the wrong time. ❤
