Rim Blow steering wheels were optional on GM cars from 1969 to 1971 (Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks), Ford, Mercury, and Lincolns from 1969 to 1974, Chryslers, Dodges, and Plymouths from 1970 to 1973, and AMCs, even being fitted as standard equipment on the AMX. (from Jalopnik)

I do think it is cool, but the overall design has some flaws or I am not used to the wheel itself. If you are turning hard, such as in a car with no power steering, you really grip the wheel and when that happens you beep the horn.. lol There have been many times I'm pulling into a parking spot and I mistakenly beep at someone.

Weren’t you supposed to add dielectric grease to the rings on the back of steering wheel where the contacts will ride along when turning wheel?

It’s funny was watching another video of yours, saw the old style steering wheel and wondered if you planned on replacing it. Jumped to your page and it’s the first video. I got mine about a month ago and put it all together (actually let my son do it, the car is gonna be his most likely at some point). Never played with the rim blow types can’t wait to try it out. Thinking of doing a customized horn sound.

@@SmackeysGarage something from either SpeedRacer like the intro sound or other classic cartoon or bit of music my dad and I would’ve appreciated together. And yeah it’s in some of my parts video I show it a lot.

Do you have power steering in your car? I was wondering how much of a pain is it to drive with the rim blow wheel if it were manual steering…I figure you’re probably gonna be doing quite a few inadvertent horn honks at slow speeds…

I do have power steering in my car but with the placement of the rim blow rubber contacts I don't see it being a major issue for myself. The rim blow is on the inside which unless you have a death grip and a complete wrap on you shouldn't hit it. I could see some people inadvertently hitting it though. It does require somewhat of a targeted squeeze to make it sound.
