I’ve begun using this in areas where I have steel against aluminum. Specifically, I ordered the repair sections for the seatbelt and tubular outrigger mounts on the front of the tub from YRM Part #175. The repair panels are galvanized steel and they bolt directly to the aluminum tub and seat box which is why they corroded in the first place. It’s like a big rubber gasket!the butyl side is against the steel and the aluminum side is against the aluminum.

I am not sure - not tried it Just read the website section on Bonnets noico.info/articles/sound-deadening-main-areas/ and it says you can use it - cannot see why not as Dynamat can be installed under the bonnet - so let's do it!

So quiet Mike, it'll be like a Rolls Royce to travel in now, well maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but will be quieter by a long way. Peaceful travel only interrupted by the clatter of a 300Tdi engine, well done you...

I used the silentcoat stuff here in the UK, 2mm butyl rubber (I think on that point they are all the same it's the other layers that make a difference) smaller pieces made it easier and the fact the roof was off the 110. Worst part was i had the sun blazing down on the reflective aluminium!

Looks great Mike. I bought a roll of cheap Chinese soundproofing and it work a treat. I think it’s as good as the branded one. I’ve just finished my rebuild of the 2.25 defender engine, how’s yours getting on?

Hi Mike, I bought Kilmat after seeing parts of an earlier video with a 90. To do the roof, sides etc if my '84 Series3 88, but some one said the Series roofs don't make as much noise. Can you confirm or deny it for me please?
@stevenprice28943 жыл бұрын
That could be true as the roof have ribs on them. Iv fitted a early roof to my defender.
@thejamesieboy3 жыл бұрын
@@stevenprice2894 Cheers Steven, how did you fit the roof? Would have thought be difficult with the defender being that bit longer. Or did the pre-Defender 90/110's still have ribs on the roof?

@@thejamesieboythe roof is off of a 90. Iv got a 1991 defender with a 90 roof and my dads got 1984 90 with a defender roof on it.

A by-the-way question please. 300tdi had a brief runaway and self stopped. It was started again but with a misfire. The turbo had been leaking and a now new one is fitted. All ducting and intercooler have been cleaned out. Is it likely to still have a misfire because of oil on top of pistons from the previous turbo problem ? Sorry to interrupt your normal video thread.
@BritannicaRestorations3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it was running on engine oil - I would be checking the crank case back pressure - excessive oil could be getting in through the breather Are the brakes ok or does it need excessive pressure? Could be the Servo leaking - quite common
@garthrichert52563 жыл бұрын
@@BritannicaRestorations Sincere thanks. The brake servo has a crack and is being replaced. Breather was also adding some oil into the turbo intake. Made a small baffle in the tappet cover today. Just concerned about any bad effects from residual oil on top of pistons prior to starting up.
@BritannicaRestorations3 жыл бұрын
The servos are crap and over pressurise the crank cases when cracked - looks like the turbo is leaking, but if you look at the intake hose you will see IT is wet with oil before it gets to the turbo - giving the impression of turbo seals leaking
