I think you probably should start the wood from the fascia and work toward the house. Then after you apply your siding you can install a trim strip if needed.. Most of the installs I've seen they start by putting female end down and nailing that board on. Then they just slip next board on and tack it through male end only. That way you save nailing one end and the nails don't show when you slip next board over it.

The house is coming along. Watching ya'll working together is so refreshing. I would point out one little issue you may want to address on your soffit install, not to rain on your parade....the rib should be installed up hill and the channel on the lower edge so that moisture doesn't collect in the channels. Won't make a huge difference if you were building a typical house in a subdivision, but this is your "forever" home. Over time moisture in the channels will cause rot. Don't be discouraged by this. You two are doing great work overall. ...oh don't forget to address the nail holes in the "field" of the Zip panels to achieve the full water barrier.

1) AWESOME job guys!!!! 2) I wish you would have called... its too late now... but you could have started tight to the outside... you could caulk the inside...and you still have the thickness of your siding product (and most likely they will have like a j-trim type piece for the top) so you have some room on the outside.... with that said, your soffit vent choice is going to be much easier.... with not framing the soffit down so its flat (which is totally fine - I freaking love the way you did it) but you will need to go with a venting strip if you do not want to compromise the efficiency of your attic venting... you are already going to have a challenge keeping the attic cold in the winter (optimum is the attic temp is equal to the outside temp to eliminate the risk for condensation... NOT your friend in a cold climate)or heat loss to create ice dam issues. if you only put a vent per say every 2 or 3 truss spaces, you will not have adequate airflow under the decking.... It does not effect our area here in MN... but the fire/amber resident vents are supper cool.... good luck! oh, and if you need a trim piece out by the fascia... best thing to use is mull strip... its like 1/4" x 1.5"... again, good luck... you guys are rocking it

The children playing inside the barrel reminded me of my childhood. Closing the roof rafters looks absolutely beautiful and gives it gives it the finishing touch. I would close those little gaps as little animals can get in there and it would finish it nicely. You have come so far with all the work on your property since moving there, you can be so proud of yourselves. Have a great day.

Thank you, the gaps Don't actually lead to anything. The soffits are totally closed in because the last soffit board is nailed flush to the sub fascia

Closing the roof openings in addition to protecting the house gives a much nicer finishing appearance. I just suggest that you close the remaining cracks because of the insects that can enter and nest in the attic. The children playing inside the barrel reminded me of my childhood when I used to do the same inside old car tires.

Great job guys:) love your channel. As for the gap I would cover that opening in the soffit... to avoid Bees or wasps making it their permanent home.

Yeah. Even if they can't get into the roof space, they will nest in that crack.

I think the 2x?6 That they are nailing to covers the crack. The little knot hole on one of the last boards however is perfect for wasps.

Great job on the soffit guys! You can use quarter-round concave shaped molding to close those little gaps. The job looks way too professional to leave those undone. Also, you could stain the strips before sealing it to give added contrast. Keep safe. Peace and nuff love from Jamaica!!

Make sure you close EVERY SINGLE gap, roof, windows and doors. Especially in the fall when they are searching for a place to over winter the nest. Those nasty little wasp can and do eat through wood and dry wall. We thought it wouldn’t be an issue until we woke up with an entire swarm in our bedroom one morning. Love your videos.
