Being deathly afraid of heights myself, the more time I spent working 18’ in the air on a scissor lift installing the ceiling joists in my pole barn the less scared I became. The first few days, I would end the days with cramped calves and feet from trying to grip the lift platform. Now I have no problem on the lift. The more you face your fears, the easier it gets. Great job, Melissa! You’re an inspiration. That timber framing looks gorgeous!!!

There IS something amazing with wood - it was one of the first materials used by man to carve beautiful utensils to eat with and carvings followed afterwards. Without wood, moldings and crown moldings in homes would be lacking, the beauty of a carved table would be absent and we'd be unable to hold a smooth bottom of a duck before a hunt. My father loved, loved, loved wood. He loved how he could smooth out the rough texture to one that stained beautifully like your truss but he mostly loved the material's smell. Just smelling the scent of wood takes me back to the many evenings I sat on the stairs watching his hands create something out of a crooked, misshapen piece of hemlock, pine or oak to one piece of esthetically beautiful cupboard door, handle, table, desk, workbench, bedhead, chair leg, etc Today, when I work with wood I prefer it 'au naturel' rather than painted and if I could have my wish, every door frame, baseboard and floor would be naturally stained Danish oil piece of wood.... but that is still a dream. Maybe 1 day.....only God knows when.

To fight through the way you and the kids have and conquer 'rona' and knock it into touch, then get up fighting and raring to get going on your beautiful woodwork and fascias etc is so inspiring. Your truss looks great. Most roller handles are threaded for an extension. Most push brooms have the same thread. For the next time you need a little extra reach.

Just a suggestion I helped my father do his party Pavilion which was rough cut Oak and we put that clear stain on with pump up sprayers turned out pretty good

Yeah, was thinking the same. It would certainly go a lot faster if it was sprayed. When I did my patio, picked up a paint sprayer from harbor freight. Sprayed on the sealer . Came out nice.

In my eyes unpainted wood is the most beautiful look of all. I have stripped wood trim in older houses with 3 or 4 coats of paint down to beautiful mahogany wood. Brings an upset stomach to mind. Your' over hang looks phenomenal. Great job Melissa. If I was you I would fire the lift driver. He could have climbed a step ladder to the lift and helped.

Just a tip from a painter's wife-Use an extension pole to attach to your roller or paint brush-for hard to reach places. Using a "Slim Jim" (a 1 inch diameter roller nap) for small narrow places) should make the job easier and faster when you are 2 years older and have to do it again. Honestly though, you guys are meticulously, hard-driving super humans!
