In this video I show removal of a InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 horsepower that was leaking, with a Waste King L-8000 1 horsepower.
EDIT: There has been a recall. If your Serial Number Starts with One of the Following 1L5, 1M5, 1A6, 1B6, 1C6, 1D6, 1E6, 1F6, 1G6, 1H6, 1J6, 1K6, 1L6, 1M6, 1A7. Where do I find the Serial Number?
Bottom plate of disposal. See: www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/Ana..., or better: www.disposalsupport.com/#!/fin...
We look three different mounting options (the ISE Badger, and two options for Waste King). Also, we examine the drain line connection differences between the old and new. Pretty much every step I took is in the video, so might be long for those with not a lot of time to spend, but the detail is there for the rest of you.

I'd really like to thank you for making this video. I installed my new disposal (same model) and PVC today by myself thanks to you and another KZbinr (whose video was about plumbing). You were right about getting that power cord plug out. Was a pain! I've never done anything like this before, including no electrical work. Your video was perfect and extremely helpful.

This helped a lot - thank you. I have replaced a half dozen Kenmore disposals with tri-screw mounts over the years in multiple homes - takes about 30 minutes. This new final seal of this "EZ" mount and removing the pre-installed plug cord was a nightmare. I had to walk away a couple times and watch this over & over. It might be easier next time now that I'm in the "know" but many hours wasted today.

I've replaced 3 Badger 5 Incinerators in 10 years. 2- 1/2 hp and 1- 3/4 models and they all lasted just a tad over the 2 year warranty period. When the Insinkerator 3/4" finally gave out I replaced it with a Waste King 3/4hp 3200. What a difference! Quieter, More power, Stainless Steel internals and 8-10 year warranty depending on the model number. I stuck with the Insinkerator because of the quick swap and because it was the industry standard and choose to give it a chance but the third time was a charm and I will never look back. The install on the Waste King was just as easy and took about an hour from start to finish.

Very helpful. Even a few years later! Thanks for sharing. I agree with others, removing the factory power cord in order to attach the direct wiring from the wall was without a doubt the hardest part! Installing an outlet with the wire from the wall and then keeping the factory power cable would seem to be faster. Hopefully the lifetime warranty on the Waste King will mean that I am out of the Garbage Disposal replacement game for a while.

@sengsational
@sengsational 6 жыл бұрын
That option should have occurred to me, but didn't. Adding an outlet under the sink probably would require a GFCI outlet (determined by local building code). That's a bit more money, and might technically require a permit. I'd certainly not bother with a permit for such a trivial addition though.

I did this install last night and watched your video today just make sure I had done everything right. I had to cut the plug grommet with a utility knife to get it out. I think the only thing I missed was to reuse the metal bracket from the badger unit that holds the wire in place to the new unit. I threw it away thinking that it would be a universal fit. So I have my wire going in to the Waste King and I just sort covered up the hole with many layers of electrical tape. I guess I need to go and find that part now in case my solution doesn't hold up.

The leak is almost certainly where the drain pipe comes out of the side of the disposal. I would disassemble that connection, examine it, and re-assemble it. It could be the dishwasher connection, nearer the top, where the dishwasher hose is connected, but I think the drain is most likely.

This may be the only video that shows how to take advantage of Wastes King's ability to use a hard wired connection in a standard plug-in unit. I was wondering how hard it was to remove the plug before I bought a Waste King. I too wanted to retain the hard wiring because I want my old switch to work the new disposal and also to not have to install an outlet under the sink which would be very annoying. I don't see why people don't get the advantage of hard wiring the new unit to the old switch??? Two reasons why it's worth it to me: Number 1 - to install an outlet under the sink would be a big hassle and Number 2 - to reach under the sink every time I wanted to use the disposal versus just reaching next to my sink to turn on the switch as I always have seems way worth trying to get the new plug out of the new unit to hard wire it. That seems way easier if you can in fact hard wire a "plug-in" Waste King. Your video shows that you can do that and it's not too much of a hassle other than pulling the new plug out. This video was highly valuable!!
@josephchen920
@josephchen920 5 жыл бұрын
@@funvidder7272 I agree with your number 1. But to your number 2: if your existing switch already operates your disposal, then running that electrical to an outlet instead of hard wire will still maintain that switch's function. Aka, your wall switch will work whether you hard wire or you create an outlet.

I was replacing the same old unit with the same exact new unit. I plugged in the new unit with the power cord it came with and I was able to power it on and off just fine with the switch above the sink so I'm still puzzled when it's actually necessary to switch the power cables.
