This is the absolute best applesauce recipe. I added all the ingredients to the water and poured it on top of the apples before cooking (including 2 tablespoons of brown sugar). I included the lemon, honey and real maple syrup. It is outstanding. I’m really enjoying your recipes, teaching methods and personality!

I make apple butter during the holidays. I use about 6 -8 lbs of apples, 2 -3 lbs of salted butter, almost a 1 lb of brown sugar. Cinnamon and apple pie spice. I cook it down in a large pot for sevaeral hours and finsh it with my ermersion blender. I give it out in small masson jars to neighbors etc. This was before I had a instapot. I am sure it would not take much adaptation.

Wow, did this applesauce come out great! Even my super picky 86-year-old mother, who eats applesauce everyday, said it was amazing. It was a bit high maintenance, mainly because I do not have magical chopping fingers and apples take a while, but it was really worth the effort. I used a 3 lb bag of Organic Granny Smith and two large Organic Gala Apples and the recipe yielded a WHOPPING 48 Oz of delicious applesauce. I stored the sauce in two mason jars. Thanks again for the great recipes. Everyone who has an Instant Pot should watch your videos.

It turned out fantastic!! I left the skins on (to give it all it's fiber) and used the emulsifier blender. You can't even tell they are there. The more it cooled, the sweeter it got. Made a second batch for the freezer. Love it, thank you.

I live in the UK and the best cooking apples are the British Bramley Apples. They are usually available around September and most allotment shops sell them cheap. They are very tart so do need sweetening (I use sugar) but keep their shape when cooked so make fantastic pie fillings and delicious apple turnovers. We also use apple sauce as an accompaniment for pork and pork chops.

Wow! Thanks, Jeffery! I just made this and I'm eating a warm bowl of it. OMG! I never liked commercial applesauce because of it being so sweet. This is heavenly. I left it chunky but the chucks break down when you stir in the raw honey. It's so freaking delicious! I will never make it another way either. ;-) Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and all that cheer!!

How to Make Roasted Apple Chips While you can dehydrate apple chips in a low-temperature oven for hours, I went with a high-heat roasting method instead and loved the results and the quick cooking time. Just toss your apple peels with a light coating of melted butter or a neutral-flavored oil (I tossed the peels of 4 apples with 1/2 tablespoon of melted butter) and a pinch of salt. Mix up some cinnamon sugar (1 teaspoon granulated sugar and 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon), then toss half of it with the peels. Spread the peels in a single layer on a parchment or Silpat-lined baking sheet and roast at 400°F until brown on the edges, about 12 minutes. Watch carefully as they can go from browned to burned easily! After the peels are roasted, let them cool on the baking sheet a few minutes to crisp up like bacon, then toss with the rest of the cinnamon sugar while still warm. By Christine Gallary

How long will it be good in the fridge? I'm not an applesauce fan but hubby loves it in his lunch so I'd hate there to be more than what he could eat before it goes bad. I'd love to make as opposed to buying as he would like chunkyness and cinnamon levels adjusted to his preference. Oh, his mom makes a peach sauce which is basically applesauce with peaches. I took a jar to my dad who loved it. Maybe you should give it a try sometime. Again, I don't care for "sauces" so I'm a bad judge but the rest of my hubbys family loves it.

Jeff, I realize water is necessary for pressure cooking, but is it possible to make this recipe without any adding any water to the apples? I like my applesauce to be VERY thick, so usually I don't add any water when I make it in a slow cooker. And I ordered my Instant Pot; it's on the way! :) :) :)
@wenchang53805 жыл бұрын
Hi, did you figure out how to do without water? I usually have mine without water when making it. Thanks.
@timfairfield4076 жыл бұрын
I’m new to this. I traditionally cook applesauce on the stove Just got a instapot duo yesterday you use 10 apples. The instapot manual says don’t pressure cook applesauce at all as it could clog the pressure release. So o have to ask if you ever had this problem? How much Apple volume did you use , how full. Because apples are different sizes. And some apples poof up when cooked like mackintosh. How much applesauce does 10 apples make?
@timfairfield4076 жыл бұрын
Ok I tried it in my Duo 8 qt filled up to the 2/3 line with apples. No problemmo! I do it Nova Scotia style. I spiced it my way cloves cinnamon allspice and nutmeg a bit of lemon juice and 1 cup water. skins on apples and run through my metal hand mill. Less waste more taste. And I did it pressure for 7 mins. Magnifique.
@kontraxed5 жыл бұрын
First, I followed this recipe exactly. Now, I will say that the applesauce turned out very nice in looks, consistency and taste. The reason I am doubtful about using the Instant Pot again is that, after the 5 minutes at pressure and then 5 minute natural release, when I transitioned to the quick release, I got sticky spray shooting out of the pressure release valve and it made a hell of a mess. I'm not sure the cleanup was worth the effort.

Put a kitchen towel over it when you release it. Voila. Steamy debris contained.
