Another great video Tyler. You break things down and explain them in terms that make sense. Great examples to remember the intervals. By the way, small error at 9:40...the #4 note on the Black Sabbath riff was shown as the 2nd note (octave) instead of the third note. That song is still my favorite Sabbath song of all time. That song gave birth to heavy metal IMO.

Minor 6th is very heavily used in a lot of goth, doom, and other dark music, it's really great for getting quite a gloomy, miserable sound, so there are tons of examples in that field. One particular example - and I know it's not a famous song by any stretch - is Kneel Til Doomsday by My Dying Bride, which starts off with that interval. I also find that minor 6ths often sound like they *really* want to resolve to the fifth - in the same way that 7ths want to resolve to the root - so if you're feeling a pull like the higher notes wants to come down, that's often a sign that it's a minor 6th. The other thing is that the inverse of a minor 6th is a major 3rd, and vice verse. So E up to C is a minor 6th, but C up to E is a major 3rd. So if you're not sure what it is, you could sing the first note an octave higher and try the doorbell sound over the top, and if that works then it's likely it's a minor 6th. Similarly if you try the 'ner-ner-you-can't-catch-me' thing over it and it fits, then it's probably a major 6th.

Minor 6th: the two first notes from "Stream of Consciousness" by Dream Theater Also, "Yeah" by Usher. The first interval is a perfect fifth but the second interval is a minor 6th. My friend remembers the minor 6th from the generic Iron Maiden progression that goes like Em-C-D-Em, and the Em-C root movement is a minor 6th (well, it could also be seen as a descending major third, but if you think in scale degrees and E is the tonic, then C is the minor 6th scale degree).

The minor sixth is also the augmented fifth. That is the sound of the British siren. I also refer to it as "The Grackle's Flourish." If you don't know what a grackle is, Wikipedia has a good article about them. My trick for the minor sixth is either the Lannister song from GoT (The first two notes "And who"), or to think of the chord progression from Too Close by Alex Clare or Neon by John Mayer. They both contain a minor sixth on the last measure. And for the b7, I go with Can't Stop by RHCP, but any song with a bassline that contains a hammer-on from b7 to 8ave works fine too.
