Hey Bryce 🙂 I just became curious about adding water to kibble because we’ve been doing it for over a year now. The veterinarian on the KZbin channel Vet Med Corner has just put out a video stating that there are zero documented health benefits for a healthy dog to need added water to kibble , but there are proven serious health reasons to not add water. I’m just asking because your video here was a year ago and I didn’t know if you were aware of the health risks and had more information to add about that…..

Just because there isn’t any research to support this topic yet doesn’t mean logically, we shouldn’t feed our animals dried food for every single meal. We all thrive on fresh whole foods with 70% or so moisture, so what happens when a dog goes to an everyday food with 10% moisture? They could try to drink more water (which you will see many dogs drinking extra water on kibble) but it’s probably hard to compensate for all of that moisture loss on top of the water they already drink. We will continue to add extra moisture to our dog’s food because their bodies are over 70% water and they didn’t evolve eating dried food ☺️

@@thebkpets thank you for your quick response. What about the dangers of bloat and GVD that the vet sites about adding water? She states that the risks out weigh any possible benefits that have not been proven. I’m sorry if I seem like I’m arguing, I’m not, I’m just curious because I know you’ve been looking at food nutrition for dogs for a long time and a KZbin channel (that I trust), feels you are genuine.

No no we love the questions! The reality is, either a dog eats food with water in it or a dog eats food and then goes and drinks water. Volume of food isn’t what concerns us about GDV, it’s more them jumping around and playing right after they eat. Dogs are gorgers, in the wild, they would eat a ton one day, not eat for a few days, and eat again. They can handle water with food as long as they wait to play at least an hour after eating ☺️

@@thebkpets I saw someone ask the vet on the KZbin channel Vet Med Corner what’s the difference between a canned food with a higher water content and adding water to kibble. The vet replied that kibble and canned food were created to be eaten as is, and not to be ingested with added water. In the video, the vet makes reference to a dog food company that experimented with adding water. It created bloating and diarrhea in some dogs, so why risk it was her deduction. I never noticed a problem with my healthy dogs, but recently I noticed a difference in my son’s dog with GI issues. According to a different vet, adding water to her food was putting stress on her pancreas. I know you have multiple dogs. Have you noticed a difference from dog to dog?

@@MG-zv9od this is an interesting idea, and I have an elderly dog who ate only dry kibble his whole life, except table scraps of usually high protein varieties, and he is a little breed, but has suddenly stopped being willing to eat kibble for the most part, I mean he will go 2-3 days with NO food at all to show me how unwilling he is to eat it. Vet says he has dental issues and maybe that's why, whatever the reason I am switching him now to 2 meals per day of wet food mixed with kibble, and he eats it that way. But I did notice before I gave up on the dry food only diet and had tried adding water to a couple different brands I tried him on that it seemed to make him sick, and he also mostly refused to eat it that way. Maybe some dry food ingredient is made unpalatable or more difficult to digest by adding water to it? Not sure. Just thoughts. Either way, I've decided to make my own kibble and keep going with the wet food in between for my boy, I guess. But I just miss being able to leave a bowl of food out all day and know he would be ok, like before.

We do feed a raw diet! Well, two of our dogs eat a raw diet and one eats a gently cooked diet. But we will make content to help those you do feed kibble. What we show in videos is not always exactly what we feed on a regular basis, but it is a product in that category that we trust and recommend
