A solid anchor point is the most important part of the shot sequence I think. When I shot compound barebow class, I used a tab. I learned a trick from Ed Eliason years ago. I cut a small notch in the the top of my tab, and at full draw that notch would fit between my right front tooth and the eye tooth next to it. It was about as solid an anchor point as you could get doing that, and I won a lot of tournaments shooting that way. If you shoot a tab, it might be worth a try for you.

I'm glad that u touched on the shooting in a 🌳. So many r doing the 🌳 ambush but it's going to feel alien to most if all they do is shoot from the ground. I took to the recurve & also shot compound but didn't feel the passion or the accomplishment with that like i did shooting the trad bow. However I struggled with it until i started shooting rough fish with it from a platform in a boat. From there my brain took over with more familiarity. From there i shot alot of 3D deer from up in a 🌳. I'm sure many hunters with the compound have noticed their arrows hitting a little off from a 🌳. It is a good learning tool since the word 3D means not flat & hitting that 3D target & dissecting the shot as well as where the exit should be is a huge part of hunting. 😮

If shooting with a plunger, increased plunger tension can cause bare-shaft to go left of where a fletched arrow aimed to same place will go. If just shooting off the shelf (as I do my longbow) then it's mostly a matter of adjusting the spine, starting with the recommended spine/tip/length as per many charts available for doing so, or sometimes even the fletch. Nice that you share as you learn.

Great video that will help a lot of archers!!! I use to point the bow off the target and then draw j hook and draw wide to the target. Now I'm trying to aim on target take up the string slack and rest my string hand thumb knuckle on my cheek bone getting my sight picture then drawing the bow and anchor on my cheek bone. This helps with my alignment!!

@@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 One thing I noticed, I anchor with my middle finger touching the corner of my mouth, I picked that spot because I watched Paul Brunner in his video doing it. When I pull through the shot after reaching anchor I noticed the knuckle of my thumb was right below my ear and middle finger near the rear of my jaw bone when I release. Does that sound right,LOL, or should I consider below my ear my actual anchor point? when I'm below my ear is when the bow literally can't be pulled back any more.

Since I shoot 3 under my anchor is my index and middle finger falling on my cheek bone. One on top one underneath the ridge of the bone. Keeps my draw length consistent and a very repeatable anchor. Really gets the anchor high and keeping gaps small so when that heart is pumping when an animal is coming in there isn't too much thought other than to stare at my spot and smooth release.

@@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 Thank you very much brother Jeff. They look so beautiful! I remember you said that you used carbon for your bow limbs. Another great tip! I was annoyed with my glove so I switched to a tab but lost the string feel. I got frustrated and used bare hands but could only shoot a handful of times without them hurting. Turns out the leather on my glove was too thick and stiff (cheap quality). I need to get a better quality glove with soft leather!

@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 11 ай бұрын
It’s simply expanding with back tension and letting the string sort of roll off the fingers without knowing exactly when just like pulling tension on a release trigger and the actual shot comes as a surprise at the perfect time making a clean release 👍🏻

I think the "follow-through" that many do these days looks "VERY cool", and maybe something new within the past 30 years or so during my 50+ years of shooting, but not something I've been able to do without consciously thinking about it. As long as I'm shooting a bow that seems to be the correct weight for me, there is no back tension once anchored, to allow that to happen naturally - I just open my fingers, leaving my draw-hand anchored, then reach for another arrow after I see the arrow hit. If shooting a bow that's a bit heavy I feel my draw hand jerk back a bit after the shot which could then make that follow-through easier.
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 11 ай бұрын
@@timvandusen4192 yes sir it’s just the slight pulling tension on the string until it just rolls off the fingertips while in you’re anchor point, you don’t actually think about releasing at all 👍🏻

This is a question and not so much about this video. You always stress focusing on the exact spot on your target. My question is if your shot is 30 yards do you still focus on that pinpoint area when you know there’s gonna be a huge drop In arrow flight?
