I learn so much from your videos. Thank you! I have an old 27 that Im working on, so everything you showed will be very helpful. And my cats also think they need to help with my sewing machine.

Really wonderful machine. As always I love that it only takes a few minor mechanical repairs to get these beauties sewing a lovely stitch again. Thank you.

Tension discs design changed mine needed an extra washer before fitting the two tension discs because the take up spring was rubbing on the first tension disk. The old disks were just like a shallow disk with a rim and the new have more complex curve. I softened my take up spring with a lighter to make it less brittle for bending into shape. I think the thumb release is meant to to be fitted on top of both tension disks under the beehive spring My machine is dated 1891 and I am not sure if they were referred to as a Singer VS3 just before they were called 28k most having the lower bobbin winder. My machine came with a full set of accessories I am in Wales UK The bobbin slide plates were lose on my machine so I bet a little curve so that there would be a bit of friction to hold them in place when sewing 33:15 your shuttle carrier has the extra finger my older carrier does not and often when you stop and start sewing the thread under the needle plate can enter the back slot in the shuttle and snap. I bent a bit of wire to act as the extra finger to stop this problem. I do use my machine for heavier or multi layers to save my wife's modern machine. My dog teeth were blunt I took them out and I have a triangular saw file and gave them a bit more of a bite, you need to have a bit of skill as in sharpening a saw. A great video thanks, well done for the free work you did for them

Hi. Thanks for your very informative post. I learned so much. I have a singer 28 made in 1918 and a 128 from 1937 - both have broken check springs that need replacement/repair. Do you suppose this Industrial walking foot check spring that you shared will work for my machines?? where did you source them?? Also, I learned so much with your adjustments on the bobbin winder. great video!!

Not sure if the spring I used in this video would suit your machine. I bought them from a sewing machine parts supplier in New Zealand. Juki Thread Take Up Spring (A). 22618706

Hey, could you share what check spring have you used exactly? the one on mine 28k is quiet weak but sourcing original one from US would cost more than the whole machine lol.
