Three weeks ago I went in for my annual checkup only to learn that my A1c was over 14, 12 months before I was at 5.2. What a shock that was. The minute I left the doctors office I started to change my diet and took the Keto route. I started to measure my Glucose every meal to see how I was doing. I took to youtube and found your site, I have been following your advice avery since, As of today my glucose reading is down to 134 from well over 400. Light exercise, zero sugar, 20 to 30 carbs per day and intermittent fasting has made a big difference in my readings. I am scheduled for lab tests next week and then back to my doctor on April 27. I have been in communication with my doctor a couple of times since my last visit. He is amazed at my change in such a short time. I owe all of my success to you and your teachings. I can't thank you enough. You are my guide down this scarry road to recovery. You have shown my the light at the end of the tunnel.

Last year at age 55, I went for a blood test after the need to urinate had become hourly. 5'7", 209lbs. My fasting glucose was 214 and my A1C was 9.5. I had borderline fatty liver, borderline high blood pressure, my triglycerides were elevated, and cholesterol levels were poor. I was prescribed Metfoman twice daily. I came across one of your videos on KZbin and decided to change my diet to low carb, lots of veggies and healthy fats. In one years time I dropped to 172lbs, fasting glucose was 100, A1C was 5.6, blood pressure of 113/70, all other levels were in check. I felt great! My doctor said to me "I dont know how you did it, but you did it, you did the impossible!"

Today I showed her my steak with fat on it and asked her, if fat causes fate, and cattle eat grass, how did that fat get there? For the first time, I think she finally gets it!

I'm a type one diabetic with a 5.1% A1C ketocarnivore for over 15months, my weight 124lbs and I'm 5'4. When I tried to eat more as a vegetarian my A1C was over 7% when I was following that diet, very low fat, moderate carbs not more than 180g something like that. I thought eating less animal protein would help me instead I gained around 25lb to 30lbs in a year and I was walking 1 h every day and also goimg to the gym 5 days a week. Counting calories. And started to inject 5 to 6 times insulin a day. Within some months Depression started along with Hypertension. Also after 2h or 3 h having hypoglycemia it was the worse just like you said here. 4 months later I found the ketogenic lifestyle. My A1C dropped to 5.7% to 5.3% and since August last year it's been at 5.1%. I stopped taking my Depression medication in less than two months on keto. Only need insulin one or two times a day. I lost around20lbs. I'm still with Hypertension but taking only half a pill. Slowly getting better. I love this lifestyle.

I watched a scientific talk on the Low Carb Down Under channel about saturated fat versus plant oils. Cells apparently get overstuffed with fat because the body knows what to do with saturated fats and will turn them away, but plant seed oils like canola don't have this effect and it can make your cells take in way more fat than normal which can lead to insulin resistance.

This was a very illuminating lecture. I have come over years to my personal best diet, which allows me to eat only once a day, besides a small breakfast carb input, which for me is THE life saver. I have moved away from junk food, without becoming excessively fanatic, meaning that I can make exceptions without dying right away. My body has become brave to keep the sugar levels at a healthy level for me, but it isn't healthy in general. I can't say that my diet will work under all circumstances for everybody. It works for me, because I first became fat and then I got too low blood sugar by a tiny bit, and nobody was able to guess that factor ... Until I tried selectively to exclude specific components. I then found out, that I could eat high protein, small fat, normal salt , low carb food, until I found that a small intake of sugar in the morning changed my whole day radically. With 10-20 g of sugar all symptoms of slowly dying disappeared. It took 10 years to find this equilibrium. Now I am experimenting with a mixed diet, because I want to get rid of the must-have sugar intake, and currently I have best results with handmade pasta (all purpose flour, eggs, salt) and a sauce, handmade, too. I do the 8 hour diet with late breakfast at 9 am and have my only real meal at around 5 pm. And I feel great, loose slowly and constantly weight, and don't feel on diet. I can take part on social events once an then, without being the guy who can't eat or, who stuffs his face. I pick the food I like without haste, and love it. And the host loves it, too 😊 Reassuming, I believe finding the own best diet without becoming too picky, and far away from junk food and drinks of course, are the way of satisfaction and health. I am now 59 and glad not feeling sick every day.

It was a really hard slog and exercise was critical. HFLC, in comparison, has seemed like a cake walk. Big drop in weight and really positive results mentally. My exercise level is at a very comfortable level - mainly due to work commitments. I'm starting to call this diet an "invalid" diet. Exercise seems largely optional! I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens this year when I can commit to more exercise and start moving to a more balanced food pyramid. For the first time in decades I have set a goal to reach optimal weight which I truely believe I can reach with this diet and your sage advice. Many thanks.

Indeed. I wanted to try Keto but, I figured I’d rip someone’s face off during the workday so, I’m just trying low carb. I’ve even been living by the glucometer for the past week and have experimented and cheated but, yes, I need a bit less sleep, I feel and hear less inflammation, I’m guessing, as my knees don’t snap, crackle and pop, when I stand up, after sitting down for awhile. Sadly though, my mother, who is 76, likely has painful neuropathic feet from unmanaged diabetes. While I have been on Metformin for decades and am finally working to change my diet, she simply doesn’t want to take pills. Instead, she’d rather major tooth loss, painful neuropathy, and I would bet that the brain shrinkage spoken of in this video is EXACTLY what is occurring. I have asked her what size ocean liner she needs to be smacked with in order to realize that she’s not only killing herself, but that she’s literally designing devastation for her daughters, with the miscalculation that we’re simply going to stop working when SHTF for her.

Eating the low carb and high-fat diet, I started to lose weight and feel better. It has been more than a week now, still new, but it seems working. I feel soooooo light. Also low carb and high-fat diet I eat till I am full and I even lose weight. I do physical work for a living that probably also has something to do with losing weight faster with this new diet I am in, but when I was on high healthy carbs, I never lost any weight but didn't gain any, always starving and craving for more. I am a type 2 diabetic. My blood sugar ranges from 6.5-9; my doctor never put me on insulin because my 3-month average was 7-7.5. I still have lots to lower this sugar level by eating the low carb/high-fat diet. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg

Thank you Dr. Ekberg for this clear explanation. When Cyrus compared the graphs of the LFHC vs HFLC/HFHPLC and tried to explain that the latter two went off the charts, even a non-scientific mind like mine can SEE the graph where all three diets peaked at the same point. But then the latter two stabilized and slowly started to descend. If I were on his prescribed style of eating, I’d be in a diabetic coma. This is the first time I've seen a non-WFPB doctor argue without major logical fallacies for other diets. Kudos to you. I have never had diabetes but I've been eating WFPB for 1½ years now with great health results, and for all this time I've been longing to find well-educated critics, because I want to know about possible pitfalls. I doubt I could live on a high-fat whole-food diet mainly because I have a tendency to eat a lot and hate counting calories. It neither seems to me like there's a lot of food options (variety) for a ketogenic diet, which would be a big sacrifice for me. I'm also curious to find out how the ketogenic diet scores in inflammation and cancer (particularly colon, prostate and breast). I'd be curious to find out the biochemistry processes too.

To keep it short, fats are the most long-term satiating food that slowly releases energy for over 8 hours since eating. Many doing keto only feel the need to eat once or twice a day and lose weight without calorie counting or even trying. Inflammation goes down because of less glycation and oxidative stress. Cancers have been noted to progress slower or even regress, because they eat glucose to duplicate without stopping, less glucose, less it can live on. Your body can run on ketones, an alternative fuel which is the definition of keto, can't feed them.

Thank you so much for addressing this question! I think it’s a very important one! For one year now I’ve been learning about nutrition, and I first went on a « whole food plant based diet », meaning essentially more carbs and less fats. In this plant-based-low-fats-diet community, some talk about this insulin resistance problem, caused by fat clogging the cells. It is their main argument to discard the keto diet (even keto diets where you eat no meat). But at the same time I was frequently exposed to the importance of (good) fats for the brain, the mood, the health, the diabetes etc.. I was so confused. I didn’t understand how two opposed affirmations could be true. Now I understand. And my choice is made. I am becoming a health champion! 💪😉 So, a big thank you!

I’ve done both diets - 8 years LCHF & latterly 4 years HCLF. All the way through the Low Carb (& even Zero Carb at one point) life I struggled to digest animal protein regardless of what I tried. Eventually, after gaining even more weight on Keto, not only did my insulin resistance go into orbit, my digestion finally threw in the towel over the protein digestion. When I had to make myself vomit to get rid of the meat that had been stuck in there for about 16 hours, I knew that was the end. I started juicing to give my poor beleaguered digestion a break. After a month, my blood sugar, which had initially been pretty unstable whilst my body cleared out the ectopic fats, suddenly dropped, my insulin sensitivity returned and I had to radically cut my insulin intake by more than half, from 50+ units to just 20-25 or even less. I for one am VERY grateful to Cyrus Khambatta & all the other great proponents of High Carb Low Fat. It’s not necessarily about how much your blood sugar spikes, it’s about how much, or more accurately, how little insulin is needed to bring it back down. On Keto, I got to the stage where the insulin was hardly moving my blood sugar down at all! It was extremely scary! Now, as long as I keep my fat intake to a bare minimum I need far less insulin to control the blood glucose. What you guys don’t seem to realise is you are ALL on the same page! There is NO ‘them’ & ‘us’. What you all have in common is that both regimes feature ALL natural unprocessed & unrefined foods! And it is dumping the highly refined & processed ‘Carbage’ & replacing it with nutrient-rich whole foods that is the key to healing! Some may cope with the fats ok & animal protein & do better on LC, others may not deal with fats & animal protein so well & do better on plant-based, but whichever they choose, both have merits in their own right! Will you please stop this continuous fighting & trying to scratch each others eyes out! It is so childish! ‘My ‘toy’ is bigger & better than yours!’ Sigh. Both ‘camps’ have value in their own way! If you can control or improve your diabetes or anything else on LC Keto, that’s fantastic! If I can control or improve mine on LF Plant-based that’s fantastic too! Play nicely fellas……😶
@moeissa23413 жыл бұрын
the protein is key though in both diets. lowering the protein is not good. and no meat gets stuck for 16 hours. that's a lovely myth

@@moeissa2341 so how come I vomited it up 16 hours later? I do have a very slow digestion/Gastroparesis anyway, and it was getting slower & slower & my stomach was getting ‘angrier & angrier’ by the minute, despite taking things like Betaine, ACV, Bitters, etc. i hate to contradict you, but YOU do not have my digestion so how could you possibly make that judgement call….??? As far as protein is concerned, I get plenty in the plant foods. How the heck do elephants get so strong without eating meat? I’m no weaker than when I was eating meat. I will have been plant-based for 5 years next month. There are many very strong & ripped plant-based athletes & players out there now. I say plant-based to differentiate from vegan, because many vegans eat quite an unhealthy diet with many processed & refined foods like wheat & sugar - anything goes, as long as it’s not animal-based (but elephants don’t eat Twinkies!). But when Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) is done properly, it can be incredibly healthy.

This video was informative and shows accurate medical physiology that is well documented and known. Bringing attention to how the body works is helpful for all patients as we can use this to decide what works for us. There are many people on both ends of these types of diets that appear to live a healthy lifestyle. Having a good doctor that understands your makeup and how the body works is what helps people deal with their ailments. Some people are allergic to different foods that prevent them from doing one or the other diet, others have damaged organs or different genetic makeups that require a different or modified version of the diet. HCLF and LCHF are opposites of each other. Many Americans live on HCLF and some statistics I have heard about show >45% of Americans are dealing with fatty liver disease and insulin resistance(dramatic increase when they started removing fat). HCLF is the recommended diet by most doctors and the government. It is an extreme just as LCHF is. Having a balanced diet based on your bodies needs may be ideal if you have perfect health. Which is not the case for many people. Then you have the biggest factor, in my opinion, and that is the quality of foods and exposure to chemicals. Eating fast food burgers with no bread can be part of a LCHF diet, but is extremely unhealthy (grain fed, antibiotic permeated, low quality). You could also have a HCLF diet with fast food and again it would be extremely unhealthy. In my opinion, having high quality food in a balanced diet (Healthy Food) that has no chemicals or synthetic preservitives that is designed around your bodies needs (Doctors assement) and the proper amount of exercise. In some cases, an extreme diet is needed to offset the damage caused by a previous lifestyle, medical conditions, or genetic makeup. (Fatty liver, no gallbladder, thyroid disorder, etc.) *Find a good doctor that fully understands how the body works and wants to fix the problem and not the symptoms *Talk with your doctor about your health and determine your needs *Educate yourself by watching videos like this one that does show how accurate physiology or do your own research in reputable medical books.
