Excellent video! So glad you addressed lifting heavy for the ladies- I am a PT and menopause momma. Tip- if you have more than 2 reps in the bank when you do a set, then the weight is too light.

Wow! This is far the best video and speech I have heared with regard to this topic. I did not even get this information from my endokrinologist. Thank you for informing us about this important topic which should be much more in focus at gynokologists that seem to know nothing about menopause and even less about hormons at all.

Yep ... Agree with everything said here, particularly regarding the need to delete as much carbohydrate from the diet, as possible. Essentially, return food intake to as natural a state as possible (organic where available) and cook it yourself to avoid any other chemicals & sugars 'enhancing' the experience! Reading the nutritional panel on every packet, bottle, bag, box or can of food is a real eye-opener, when it comes to realising how we've all been wrecking our lives!!

From the past 3 years my resting glucose has been high, then through genetic testing I found I carry a genetic marker that predisposes me to type 2 diabetes. I am not overweight, I exercise regularly. My A1C was 5.6. Going back to my Keto diet and will see if that helps, I generally don’t eat junk food so this is very distressing. Also, I was just diagnosed with Hashimito’’s thyroiditis.

This was so helpful. Your explanation of insulin resistance was simple and easy to understand. You also provided simple solutions. Much appreciated.

Another reason I want my estrogen patch back! I was diagnosed with type two diabetes at age 32. I was not overweight. My son was 14 when diagnosed as type Two. He also was not overweight. His daughter was diagnosed with MODY at age three. I saw a menopause certified nurse practitioner, and was so hopeful she would put me back on my estrogen patch even though I had dcis cancer and am cancer free. I told her I wanted to assume the risk, and her reply was “That doesn’t mean your family won’t sue “. So disappointing. I want it for all the things it protects us from, including higher blood sugars since I have been off my hormones. Suggestions?
@drsusan4 ай бұрын
Well, every patient is different but certainly based on your history many doctors would prescribe estrogen for you. You could certainly come and see us to discuss that.

Dr Susan, I know this is off topic,but I have a question. I am having a hysterectomy in 1 week with cervix and fallopian tube being taken out due to fibroid s and irregular bleeding. Planning on keeping at least 1 ovary if possible. I am 46 years old.Do you think I will need to go on any hormonal medications post surgery? If there's any lab work that I need to get done to check my hormone levels after surgery? If so, what are they? Thank you for all your educational videos and thank you for your time.

As long as you are keeping at least one ovary your hormones should be fine :)

Dr Susan I’m on an estrogen patch and oral progesterone 100mg at night. The pharmacy only gave me half the pills (they came from Denver I’m in Colorado Springs) and I can’t get a refill for another month. Is it safe to be on the patch .05mg without the progesterone for a month without risk of cancer?

I’ve seen insulin powder. Would that be something to add to a diet?Not sure what it’s even for.
@drsusan4 ай бұрын
I am not familiar with that . I wonder if it's inulin not insulin. One would not want to take insulin in a powder ! It's a powerful hormone .

My fasting glucose is 103, but my insulin is 3.3. I feel like I have insulin resistance but not sure if this data supports that?
@drsusan4 ай бұрын
Certainly we can have normal fasting insulin, but it can shoot up later in the day. This is where a continuous glucose monitor could be very interesting. Possibly sugar spikes later in the day. Check your HA1C (5% or less is ideal) ;triglyceride:HDL ratio (ideally would be less than two:one), liver enzymes (less than 20) and uric acid (less than 5)

Dr Susan, great video. I love your content. Can you please comment on author Wendy Sellen’s assertion that menopausal women don’t need Estrogen bc they already have high levels of Estrogen (but the toxic kind -xenoestrogens) and they just need to remove these Estrogens in order to heal?
@drsusan4 ай бұрын
I don't know about Wendy Sellen's work, but I am a strong proponent of menopausal hormone therapy because of the many irrefutable health benefits. I have lots of videos about that. Stating otherwise is just outside of the science to date. Postmenopausal estrogen has countless benefits for reducing preventable illness, as well as helping with general well-being.

Best sources of fiber are non starchy colored vegetables ! Many people, including me, also take a fiber supplement like psyllium husk, or sun fiber , which is in thorne's fiber mend product
