Brilliant. Bob, actually you can bypass the whole Xpresso technique just using a *Time Track* in the Timeline (Add special tracks > Time Track to be assigned to the Frame keyframes): this would basically do what you did with Xpresso!

Using an XPresso to create a timeline is clever. There is another possibility. At (T = 14: 26) of your video, you can add a time track. In (Dope Sheet) you select (xpCache_Base) and in the menu (Create: Add Special Traks: Time Track). Now select (Frame) and drag the track (Time) into (Track (Frame): Properties: Time Track = Time). Note that the time line goes from 0% to 100%. Now, in (F-Curve Mode) we add keys directly on the curve (CTLR + click), etc. I have a preference for the XPresso approach because we work with the time units of our simulation. In both cases, once one has the processing time line is equivalent. Thank you for these excellent tutorials.

This is great as I have been struggling to retime caches with curves and thinking there must be a way...just didn’t know how! Thanks!!

Nice! Is there any reason why you wouldn't use one user data channel to drive all three cache frame values from one controller?

How are you getting frame interpolation when scaling time? Mine skips frames.

In the newest build of XP, did you all implement the "Times" as well in the retiming menu of the cache object? This could eliminate the need for Xpresso right?

I watched the whole tutorial.. then I realize the new build of X particles already has a curve tool in XpCache to do retiming ! 😅

Is there a way to also retime a vdb Octane volume to follow the new time track?

This would be great if caches weren't broken when I re-open a file later. Things are not the same as when I last closed the file.

My retimed cache is not smooth at all when I slow it down with this technique. Each original cache frame is getting freezed over several frames. It doesnt interpolate the particles when retiming??

I don't know if you or anybody still needs the answer to that question. But I just solved it and I hope somebody in a similar situation might find this useful. Solution: Only Cache the particles. If anything else is cached, in my case an xp generator. You will get frame stuttering. If I only cache the particles and not the xp generator it will work flawlessly. It's probably the same for anything from generators tab. Anything that generates a mesh will make the playback stutter.

How can I do slow motion with OVDB mesher? Because it doesn't work. Particles are going smoothly, nut OVBD mesher is jumping trough frames. I tried increase subframe steps, iterations, accuracy. Tried different type of slow motion. Only thing works, if I cash it with 120 or so frames in the second.
@aristidematton6485
@aristidematton6485 2 жыл бұрын
I deleted the mesher cache, and only kept the particle cache, after retiming I re-added the mesher, and it followed the particles smoothly without jumping through frames.

My computer crashed on the previous tutorial as I was following along but the hero splash goes around but 180 and 360 the tangles rip of in massive pieces 😢. Lol I'm going back through but can seem to find out why.... after it crashed it seemed to have saved all the data and saves but its like the forces that kept it going around the sphere no longer bring it back on so it ends up like a big mess lmao
