To be honest I kinda don't like it. To me its like sorta like comedy movie previews. They put the funniest parts in the trailer to get you hooked in and when you go to watch the movie you have already seen the good stuff. So i kinda just skip the intro and get to where he talks about what he is playing

I just realized this game's clever use of jumpscares: Your screaming in response to one alerts the creature to your location, so it is never too far away as you are progressing through the game

it would be a pretty clever game mechanic if it made any sense or even related to the backrooms at all. Instead it's just random jumpscares just for the sake of jumpscares. after 6-7 you stop being scared and just walk through the game like the monster wasn't even there, sadly.

The story is actually based on a true event. 11 year old Timothy King disappeared during the 'Oakland County Child Killings', during which at least three other children were also killed in the span between Feb 15, 1976 and March 16, 1977. His mother made a public plea on television for the kidnapper to release Timothy so that he could have his favourite meal of fried chicken. When his body was found, the post-mortem uncovered that he had been fed fried chicken prior to his death. The OCC Killer (or killers) has never been identified, with two suspects indirectly linked via DNA (one dead, the other currently incarcerated for crimes related to children). Despite there being a complete DNA profile of the killer, it matches none of the suspects.

Why your right ear you ask? Back in the 80's and 90's with film recording most Home / Personal recording technologies were in Mono sound, meaning sound only came from one speaker in playback, by default it is the Right ear because the sound was not in Stereo quality. Play back that video on a Mono TV and you will notice the difference.

So someone just took the real life abduction, bad touching, and murder of Timothy King by the Oakland County Child Killer and said "if I pad it out by talking about his arms being removed I can profit off of this killing at 10 bucks a pop!" Don't get me wrong, the gameplay of this game is pretty sound. It's nicely done. But maaaaan is the lore distasteful. You could have easily made up something completely fake or, better yet, left the edgy kid killing subplot out of the game altogether and it would have been all the better for it. Instead we lean into reports of this real kid crying out for help before being murdered.

The postmortem found remains of fried chicken in his body. Meaning his killer went out of the way to make the poor kid's last moments as messed up as possible. Imagine your captor bringing you your favorite meal: only to murder you shortly afterward. Truly a tragic fate. Doubt the family would appreciate their late relative being portrayed as an abomination that chases players around in a game though. 😅
