INTEGRA TYPE-R ::: turbo conversion ::: HD

Last year TDi North posted a thread on the itrdc5 forum (www.itr-dc5.com) saying that they'd developed a turbo kit suitable for the EP3 and the DC5 Type R's. I got straight onto the phone to find out more. After not very much convincing I agreed to make the trip up north and go to see the guys in person. With the promise of a good nose around their facility, time for all my questions and a quick spin in Ben's EG it was an easy sell!

After literally 2minutes of that first test drive in Ben's EG I knew that I not only wanted...but needed a turbo fitted to my car! If you haven't experienced it (Turbo Honda) ...It really is as good as everyone says! Haha
Back at the workshop the conversation started to get serious. After I'd exhausted all possible questions and my mind was put at ease the deal was done. TDi North agreed to use my car to develop the kit and offered a discount on the basis that I would document the whole process and turn it into a video.
The date was set, materials ordered and I went back on my merry way with a beeming smile on my face.
The time dragged waiting for the date to come round but eventually the day of the conversion came.
I was booked into a local hotel for a week while the conversion took place. During that week I went down to the workshop every day to document the whole process, film interviews, ask questions and generally and get in the way.

can't rate the tdi north boys enough, been there and done it, know exactly what they are talking about, Paul was only 2 bhp off with his estimated power gain with all my mods before the dyno. will be getting my turbo next!!!

the theory behind the cams was to increase spool time not power and the rbc was swapped back to the factory prc. This was done so I could sell the rbc to help pay for the build. Will go back to an RBC later when i have the spare cash

With a log style manifold and a small turbo such be around 2,500 in US dollars not including the labor cost cheers

One big difference Ep3 is nothing on a DC5. Ive got a DC5 and cant wait to upgrade.

Mh i was was talking about tuners general, not espacilly those here. Well VTEc would work after 4min idling but it still would damage the engien to rev 8k then :/ And i guess most tuners dont knwo what vtec is^^

Ofc they warm it up man. Doesn't even VTEC without the engine oil warm so what'd be the point. TDi are hardly your average john garage.

Front is an INGs +1 lip Rear is a copy of a Mugen Lip

I have a stock dc5 dont want to turbo yet but want to make it faster, if you can posible help out sith the situation. The fact is I know little abot speed been on you tube trying to figure out how it actually can be done in tge best posible way. What do I actually need to make my dc5 faster without turbo. I know the basic stuff but tell me the cost for some grat one to make my car faster but am on a budget of $4800 what can that do. Need types and price for these: ecu, fuel injectors, gas pump, exhaust(whole set) and one of those incredible shifters (complete set) donk know the name of the shifter.need quality items to get running. Thanks for the help

The best place to start would be intake and exhaust. Before u start pushing power limits u need to be able to make the engine breathe better. AEM makes a great intake for the dc5 nd comes in short ram, cold air, or hybrid options. As far as exhaust, a race header is gonna give u the most power, many companies make them. And a full exhaust back at around 3inches is a good place to start. Hks or skunk2 or something like that. Just for intake and full exhaust can run u between 1500 to 2000 USD depending on wat u want. Then after that, new intake manifold, ecu like a kpro or AEM, and injectors would be the best place to start. The car will need to be tuned after these mods of course. Then after that it's forged internals and forced induction

Can somebody give me a rough idea how much it would cost to make around the 250hp at the weels with a k20a3 (base engine for the dc5) torbocharged version of the dc5? I've heard a lot about the k20a2 (in the type R), but the k20a3 is almost completely forgotten about. I'm also looking to make the build reliable as my k20a3 has over 240,000km on it (yes, I know that's a lot, but the engine is still VERY healthy becuase it was never given a hard life and predominantly just cruised on the highway). Any insight would be greatly appreciated before I go out spending money on my dc5. Also, I live in Australia, so if anybody knows the rough price to have a reliable build/kit at that price, then I'd love to hear from them. Thanks anybody that wants to help!

Brandon Sunthivong Would it be as simple as swapping the cams over and maybe a few other things to transform a K20A3 into a K20A2? Just a thought..... Also, yeah it would be hard, but I'm thinking that the significantly lower compression ratio in the A3 might make it easier to turbo?

Kieran Hancock k20 heads as far as i know are all transferable i believe all the k20 short blocks are the same but the The VTEC system on engines like the K20A3 only operate on the intake cam; at low rpm only one intake valve is fully opened, the other opening just slightly to create a swirl effect in the combustion chamber for improved fuel atomization. At high rpm, both intake valves open fully to improve engine breathing. In engines such as the K20A2 found in the Acura RSX Type-S, the VTEC system operates on both the intake and exhaust valves, allowing both to benefit from multiple cam profiles. to get that system HEAD and maybe ECU not too sure but think it might not need too much maybe it uses an extra sensor.and from what i read the 13 to a2 head is a common swap and gets you to 200 mark at the crank you could get that up with bolt ons and map
