My 5800X3D running at PCIe 3x8 scored just under 29 FPS, and my VIA C4650 running PCIe 2x4 scored 28 FPS. I found that to be extremely weird andd interesting. Steel Nomad is not very CPU dependent.

If your mobo doesn't have rebar support, don't bother getting an Intel gpu. Also if you're playing on 1080p, the Intel gpus have a lot of driver overhead which can translate to lost performance even on a 5700x3D. Look up hardware unboxed's latest video for more details. In regards to the 7700 XT, the B580 performs around the same as a 2080 Super or 3060 Ti on average and is 28% slower than a 7700 XT on average. You can look up techpowerup's gpu charts for more info. For the price range of the 7700 XT I'd personally recommend just getting a second hand 3080 instead. It is a good 20% faster than the 7700 XT on average with far better RT, upscaling and all the Nvidia support.

Arc B5xx (Battlemage) is for those of us packing a GTX 1xxx series (like me) or a RTX2xxx (or AMD equivalents) paired with a decent µProc and who could not upgrade because of the Minning and AI price hikes of the last few years. If one has a RTX3xxx or equivalent AMD, is not worth it UNLESS one REALLY NEEDS a SPCECIFIC feature , be it AV1 encoding, the extra VRAM, Frame Gen, DNN upscaling (as opposed to Lanczos) or somesuch. Otherwise, if you have an RTX 3xxx series (or equivalent AMD), or an Arc Alchemist A5xx or 7xx, stick with what you have. If you are building from scratch (i.e. not upgrading a part of your rig), just get an ARC (which price to features to performance can not be beaten) and buld a balanced budget system around it.

The arc b580 currently has higher cpu overhead than the nvidia rtx 4000 series, which is higher than the amd rx 7000 series. This means that below a certain point you will see an fps drop off before the other gpu's do; I'm guessing around the amd 5000 series cpu range. Perhaps this will improve with driver updates, like what happened with the arc a700 series. Also like what happened with the arc a700 series, this is probably only recommended for consumers who want the best bang for the buck in the lower medium end gpu's for mixed gaming and productivity, and don't mind tinkering/problem solving and keeping up with updates until the drivers mature.

I have a question, genuinely curious: does a motherboard like an A520/B450 with a Gen. 3 x16 slot that requires a BIOS update to support ReBar/SAM have any performance differences compared to buying a motherboard like a B550 that has native ReBar and SAM support/PCIe. Gen. 4 x16 Slot? I've always wondered about the actual physical hardware on the motherboards being potential variables on performance
@KiraSlith17 күн бұрын
ReBAR/SAM only becomes a hardware issue on CPUs old enough not to support hardware virtualization (IIRC Resizable memory access is just a hack twiddling some virtualization management bits in real-time). From there, it's just a matter of porting/backporting the software-side functionality at the BIOS level. It could be supported as far back as 4th gen Core-i, but most companies don't care to backport beyond the 6th generation Core-i and 3rd generation Ryzen chips.

Far from incentivizing the competition to do better it will merely reinforce their approach whereby they restrict supply to keep pricing artificially high. UnrealEngine 5 is hated cause people finally notice that despite them having GPUs 3times as powerful as they had 10 years ago the games don't run not look any better. On the contrary - often you are greeted with a blurry mess of artefacts. Look at Starwars outlaws: Characters constantly have artefacts around them - when in areas like the starship hangers it forms a nice bright Halo around you (your Stalker 2 footage also shows heavy smearing)..... Wukong is not that bad cause they re-wrote large chunks of UE to even work. Also it is the managers and publishers that like Unreal - not the game developers.

My problems with the B580 1. It’s not 250$ anywhere Even in the US, the like, 20 total cards sold at 250$ were bought immediately Most are for sale at 380, at which point it’s still not worth, cause the Rx 6700xt exists 2. The performance sucks with anything that isn’t Re-Bar enabled Like, SUPER sucks Like 1/2 of the performance as without it So all the people who are shopping for a 250$ card, don’t have a 200$ CPU, then have a 100$ cpu and a 100$ motherboard Either AM4 or 12th Gen i5 from Intel 3. Scarcity How many GPUs did Intel make? Like 200? Did KZbinrs get the majority of them!? I’ve seen like 2 stores that had them sitting on shelves, and only had 1 model and only 3 boxes This launch is a flop It needed to come in volume, the drivers needed to work, and it needed to have good base performance, not depend on a crutch

The hype around this card when it launched was way over the top, possibly down to us being starved of good value gpus for many years, but due to the driver issues on several games and the massive loss of performance on older systems it's pretty much a dud, not to mention you can't buy it anyway due to the lack of stock, at least not at MSRP.
@theblitter17 күн бұрын
IcebergTech and RandomGamingInHD have tested it with current gen budget CPUs, the overhead issue isn't that big on those. It's a great card to be bought with 7500f or 12400f (at MSRP of course). People with older intel and AM4 CPUs better look at older, cheaper, and perhaps used GPUs. The overhead issue could probably be fixed with drivers, but even when it couldn't, it's still a huge improvement over the older ARC cards so not remotely a dud.

How is it we are now _checks notes_ *five years into gpu ray tracing being a thing,* and we still don't have a mid range or even entry level card capable of doing it without losing more performance than intel Arc already loses running DX 9 or on a platform without resizable bar?

The driver overhead on this is such a headache. Will wait on 3rd Gen Intel GPU

With the disappointing upcoming AMD generation and terrible pricing from Nvidia, Intel has the opportunity to do the funniest thing.

it sits comfortably in the admittedly GIANT FUCKING GAP between 4060 ti and a 4070 in timespy, it has more vram than the 4060 ti, costs less or the same depending where you and has bugs roughly in the same ball park as the other too with great promise of driver improvement. tis not a bad card

Curious about your 7800X3D. Might be having an issue with the number of active cores in your Windows Install. X3D parts have lower boost speeds and if it's only running 6 cores, you'll notice the 1% lows. MSConfig -> Boot Tab -> Advanced Options -> Number of Processors (Unchecked)

Is the ALi express promotion at the start meant to be region specific? I'm in canada and the QR code just took me to a page under maintenance, and searching iceberg didnt show anything but some iceberg figures.

I think the point of the Budget Graphics Card titel of the B580 is misleading because of the fact that if you have older gen hardware and just want to upgrade the GPU, then B580 really isnt the one you should go with. You'd be better off with a second hand 2060 Super or a 2070 for the same price.

Did you fixed the drivers when paired with ryzen 2600 or even a 5600

I know you have your standard gaming platform for most testing, but do you keep a Zen 3 board around? I’m curious how it might react with one of the X3D chips. Or with a Rocket Lake chip. That, and/or PCIe revision scaling down to 3.0.

At this price point, I'd rather get a used 3080ti off ebay.

As a Ryzen 1000 series owner, the CPU overhead is a lesser issue given my platform has been showing its age and DDR5 frequency has been rising beyond JEDEC spec faster than expected (fyi it took a few years until DDR4-2400 to be a JEDEC spec) I was wondering if AMD latest platform still has USB issues. It took me to own an intel laptop to realize that I was having input delays the whole time I am using my Ryzen PC and laptop

Would be cool if you also do some cpu overhead (using older cpus) testing with your methodology
