What a truly EPIC race, all the way to the end. Raced amongst some of the fastest Spec Miata drivers in the country, and was lucky to prevail over Brandon Collins and Charles Mactutus. A combination of good luck, sensible heat and tire conservation strategies, and a decision to execute a strategy that would not be anticipated put me on the top step of the podium! Happy to get my 6th June Sprints win (3 in Spec Miata, 3 in Super Touring Lite)
Danny Steyn races SCCA and NASA events in both Spec Miata and Super Touring Lite cars. His cars are prepared by OPM Autosports, his SM is powered by Rossini Racing Engines, his STL is powered by Nelson Racing Engines, and both cars are stopped courtesy G-Loc Brake Pads, with contingency support from Hoosier Racing Tire, Toyo Tires and Mazda Motorsports.

@@dannysteyn Lmao I am trying! The last time i was going to go to an event near me the fuel pump went out in my CRX, so i couldn't go unfortunately. Would it be possible to send you an email or drop my email? that way you dont get bombarded, or anything like that. I am sure you get requests like this all the time, but i would love any additional insight. Maybe even offer an additional hand if you are ever in the area! I am open to learning in ALMOST any way. haha

Thanks Gawie, yup as you know, the front guys are all exceptional wheelmen, national and regional champions and the 15 year old kid who started on pole, Connor Zilisch is a world champion, and he has been racing as long as I have!!!! Was some of my best driving, until i decided to turn in on the grass in T6 on the lasttt lap. Always some drama lol Trying to manage the engine heat was crazy first few laps, its mostly why i wanted to lead, as my engine doesnt like over 230F
@dannysteyn
@dannysteyn 3 жыл бұрын
Chuck, I genuinely thought you and Connor drove amazing races - all the way to the last lap. Once I got passed you, you made that one mistake in T6 and it was all over. Connor was trying just a bit too hard behind me, and ran wide in several corners going too deep on entry.

@@dannysteyn yeah I was struggling being the last car in the train which made me make a few mistakes. Always great racing with you guys!
@dannysteyn
@dannysteyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@connorzilisch5696 I have been in that some position, many times, just hanging on, unable to catch up in the straights, but forced to try and make up time in the braking and corner entry, but it is such a fine line, go in a HAIR too deep and you miss the exit, and the corner out exit is slow...... Dont beat your self up about it. Great racing with you this past weekend. To start on the pole for the June Sprints at Road America, the first time you have ever raced there is pretty damn amazing!!! PS, the first time ever I went to Road America was back in 2010, for the June Sprints, and guess who won on his first time there!!!!!!

At 23:05 I didn’t expect us to get broken up... as I thought he’d pass you around the outside and we could try and draft away some and just hold you off at the finish. I also thought about giving you a point by at the end so Connor and I can draft by you after 14 🤣 but I don’t know... I feel like that’s cheap. Instead I got too excited about getting you back out of 6/into 8/carousel I messed up the entry veryyyyyy bad. Punching myself for that one. I won the drift competition easily😅
@dannysteyn
@dannysteyn 3 жыл бұрын
@@chucky29949 Yup, in retrospect that was your biggest mistake, but it is so easy to quarterback after the event. By getting past me and Connor not being with you, allowed me to split you up, and I stayed on your bumper pushing, even when I thought we were doing slower lap times than needed. But I was getting split times to the guys behind so when I realized they weren't gaining, I committed to keeping you and Connor apart. And Chuck, your highly developed value system and your conscience are what make you this fine young man with the world at his feet. Do not compromise on either, when you do, that's when you will enter a world of self loathing, something that many others live with, because they eschew the very values they pretend to adhere to. I know you will never race me dirty, you will always race me clean and very hard, and for that my friend, you have my utmost respect. And in the end, for most of us, that will be the ultimate reward that we get from racing, the respect of our peers!

Thank you Tanner, and seriously, you should come and join the excitement. Easy to get an SCCA license, and many shops have Spec Miata cars to rent, so you can get into the sport with limited funds. @@dannysteyn Spousal involvement is always a good thing. Have you considered horizontally mirroring your rear camera view and putting it on the top of the screen? I keep getting crossed up with a car to one side of the rear view then it pops onto the other side of the forward view.

@@kmcclarney Yes you can come and watch our races. Not sure where you are based but its easy to come as a spectator, or even become a volunteer and work as a flagger at a corner, and you get in free and they cover your expenses. Also easy to get an SCCA license, and their are many shops that rent both Spec Miata's and Spec Racer Fords. IMO, Miata's are safer as you are fully enclosed by roll bars.
