INTERCOOLER CLEAN plus fitting the Forefront Industries hard pipe kit

On this episode I teamed up with Jamie from Forefront Industries to show you guys how to install a set of their hard pipes, And since I was removing the intercooler, it was best to give it a clean at the same time, cleaning out the intercooler free from oil has a number of benifits, not only will it reduce intake temps it also reduces the carbon build up in the intake when it mixes with the exhaust gases.

Another great vid. I did this not long ago and removed the front grill to access stuff and didn't need to bother with the lights. I also used the wife's hair dryer to dry out 🤫. Worked a treat.

Hi. Thanks to you and your video on the hard pipe install i was finally able to locate a dealer that had them for my 2015 Mitsubishi Triton. You would be surprised just how hard it is to find them for that model, i tried four other manufacturers only to be told that they do not make them for my model. Again thank you for the video that finally got my old perished pipes replaced. Just a tip for anyone who is going to fit the replacement hard pipes to there car a smear of oil on the inside of the silicone connectors will make the job a lot easier to move the pipes around and into place. Great to see you making videos again. I did the front intercooler at the same time and I have to say over the stock unit it’s a great upgrade from Frontier Industries. Do have a look at the DEA exhausts from the turbo back which is a great upgrade before a remap.

I got all the intercooler pipes to fit easily but I couldn't get the Silicone Air-box to Turbo hose to fit on my MN. I tried undoing the air-box mounts like you did, but my air-box must be in a different place because I also tried the SAAS version but it wouldn't fit either. My MN was built in the 4th month 2015 so maybe they changed the air-box position on the last few that came off the production line because mine was out of alignment by at least 30mm. No way can you manipulate 6ply silicone to fit when it is off by that far.

Hi my x3 deisel ..has alot of oil in the hard pipe intake charge pipe and oil in the intake manifold butterfly ..IV noticed the top intake clip Flexi hose clip BMW style is loose

Thanks for the info. Was wondering how you can be assured that you have gotten out all of the metho and degresser ? Surely there would be some traces of it left behind.

Just let it dry before installing the cooler, will have little to no effect on the engine ( maybe idle a little high from the fumes for a second or two)

Changed my turbocharger yesterday as it was leaking oil from the compressor side. Seen oil in the inter cooler hose when I removed it so I might clean the intercooler too. Will use this video as a guide. Thanks. Would it make a difference if I cleaned the intercooler?

It wouldn't hurt to clean it, depends how much oil is caught in the cooler, will work more efficently if cleaned.

If intercooler pipes blocked with engine oil ,intially remove turbo charger and replace turbo seal to prevent oil leakage from TC then refit TC and susequently clean the Intercooler,EGR and Catalytic convertor or DPF to prevent further breakdowns......

hi mate ..how have you gone with the forefront pipes..i installed there intercooler first with good results..then purchased there hard pipe kit..and have had alot of problems...leaking...fixed them with better murry clamps but lacking performance and lots of torbo lag..just running poorly

Is it natural to have oil on turbo intercoolers?

yes, oil vapor gets pulled in by the turbo and put into the charge piping and intercooler, i would recommend flushing the intercooler every year at least

I had a carbon clean done before fitting catch can at 110.000 k's. Was explained it's a " chemical" clean which they say is a thorough clean almost like new. Is that the same as your doing?

We will be removing the manifold for cleaning then once its re-installed will run the chemical clean through it as well, A chemical clean wont completely clean a blocked manifold.

All depends on the driving style, manifolds have been blocked at 50k, carbon clean are good for maintaince from new but at 300k its best to remove it for cleaning.

The factory hose is prone to split at some point, the cost to replace with a factory pipe is not cheap, alloy pipes wont split and half the price. little to zero performance gains by having alloy pipes on a stock setup.

This job is a nightmare. Don't buy the kit for a challenger, nothing lines up properly. Two days later and the thing leaks boost like a sieve and has no power at all.

There is a slight coating of clear on them from new but I don't think is UV protected, give them a buff then add the UV clear.

Hi mate, I used degreaser and methylated spirits, both cheap cleaning liquids, you can use brake cleaner if you want. just make sure you dry it properly before re-installing

You do realize that you do not have to remove that pipe on the Left hand side (no need to remove the light etc.) to fit the new aluminum pipe from the Intercooler to the throttle body.

A bit of wd40 will make fitting silicone pipe easier to slip on ....No catch can??? ....By the looks of the intercooler ,the damage is done...hate to see what your inlet manifold looks like .Fit a catch can when the car is new or your wasting your time !!!!
