During an autoland approach in a Boeing 747-400, the Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA) on the Primary Flight Display (PFD) will typically display the following modes and indications:
Roll Modes:
LOC: Indicates the localizer capture and tracking mode. The autopilot is engaged to maintain lateral alignment with the runway's extended centerline.
ROLLOUT: Indicates the autopilot is engaged to maintain lateral alignment during the rollout phase after touchdown.
Pitch Modes:
G/S: Indicates the glideslope capture and tracking mode. The autopilot is engaged to maintain vertical descent along the glideslope.
FLARE: Indicates the autopilot is engaged to initiate the flare maneuver just before touchdown, reducing the aircraft's descent rate for a smooth landing.
ROLLOUT: Indicates the autopilot is engaged to maintain the pitch attitude during the rollout phase after touchdown.
Autothrottle Mode:
SPD: Indicates the autothrottle is engaged to maintain a specific airspeed during the approach.
IDLE : Indicates the autothrottle is engagepd and will retard the thrust levers to the idle position at the appropriate time during the landing rollout.
Autopilot Engagement:
CMD (Command): Indicates that the autopilot is engaged and in control of the respective flight control surfaces.
LAND 3 at One thousand five hundred feet, the mode of the auto pilot will change from CMD to LAND 3
the Autopilot is ready for automatic landing under CAT 3 weather conditions
