@@thekittenwolf I have seen zookeepers give hyenas cat nip and they freak out over it just like a cat would and roll in it and get all crazy, you ask how is it that you can get a crazier acting animal than a hyena naturally, give it cat nip and find out.. it’s pretty funny

While hyenas are more closely related to cats, I wouldn't call them cat-like in any circumstance. Physically, everything about them says "dog".

You may have seen it already but in case you haven't I recommend a documentary "Wildcat" about of young man with serious PTSD who along with his partner save captured or endangered animals in South America. The man's attachment to his 2 ocelots and the very very difficult time he has just surviving is an emotional story on many levels. Keep tissues close at hand.

They also have one of the strongest bite force of terrestrial carnivores. And they can chase their prey for 5 miles without getting tired. And they can be very affectionate towards humans. Love them!

I thought they had the hardest bite force PERIOD. Stronger than any big feline or canine that's for sure. Stronger than a bear, tiger, lion etc..

That’s funny, I was never too fond of them (no doubt because of how they have long been depicted), but I’ve really been coming to appreciate them as I’ve actually learned more about them. I have a little bit of knowledge on Wolves- my last " dog " was half deer hound and half timber wolf, she had Gold eyes and 4 colors - black, brown, white, and red in separate patterns over her whole body- she loved to sit with the farm cats on the rail fence or up on the roof of the farm house via the ladder leaning against the house lol

Their clans are female led and the lowest female has higher status than the highest male. They also are always testing for status and this includes with their Handlers/keepers. They are adorable. They also have very sensitive mouths in that they test out everything with. They have an incredible sense of smell. If you haven't yet check out the series that Kevin the lion whisper has on them. They are such unbelievably amazing, beautiful and cool creatures! I love them and opossums!

Also google try there as well. Not everything is about feminist views and not every creature is male led in fact some creatures switch genders if there aren't enough of one gender lol even some animals produce young without a male at all. I would love to interact with a wolf but these videos really make it an incredible journey into their world with how you interact with them even though i cannot personally have the honor of interacting with one or an entire pack. . Kevin Richardson (aka the Lion Whisperer) had a segment called 'Meet the Characters'. There is a set on the hyenas. I think he has another series on the hyenas and how they live. Wow was I wrong about them. Very very interesting!

So, a lot of people will tell you that the highest ranking male in a group is below the lowest female, but that simply isn't true. This ia very outdated. Males that stay with their birth clan inherit their mother's rank and are above any female she is above. When they mature they can choose to leave or stay- they aren't forced out. It's just that majority choose to leave because they either are born to low ranking females or don't have enough unrelated females to mate with in their birth clan. That being said, the ones that do stay usually do belong to clans with unrelated females and breed successfully. The key thing to remember is that ranks are based around social ties- not sex.
