I remember decades ago I was at the Munich zoo and they were fixing up the lion enclosure and in the meantime the lion was in a fairly small cage - the entire time we were in front of it, he did not stop pacing up and down. That's a bored animal. These two look like they're having the time of their lives!

Thank you James for setting that lady on the straight and narrow. As a cat mom myself, my two sleep about 18-20 hours a day, except when there’s a storm coming. They are my feline barometers and they’re never wrong! The more active and “spastic” they act, the stronger the storm.

Lions in the wild are usually most active around dawn/dusk, as are their prey. I've been blessed to go on safari in Kenya, Africa twice in my life so far and what an AMAZING experience it is to view animals - in general - in their natural habitats. What James states is absolutely spot on about those lions. Speaking of safaris (the viewing kind of course!!), James if you read this, if you ever get the opportunity to go on one I highly 1 million percent recommend it! 👍

You are right. I worked and studied FERAL CATS for 20 years. Big or little this is their territory. Where they get food. Where they feel unafraid. You are keeping them free from diseases. And fighting for food which can cause death. What people don't understand is the wolves and cats are not chasing food that can be diseased. They look happy and at the right weight. You are doing a good job.

I've had 4 cats so far in my life (domestic house cats, obviously). All of them typically sleep 14+ hours a day (not all at once, in intervals), I even have house cameras installed which have verified this. So I am not remotely surprised to hear that wild cats sleep 16+ hours a day as well.

Were it not for places like yours, LionDad, we'd have lost the American Bison forever--not to mention the Gray Wolf! Both species were all but extinct in the U.S. wild due to unscrupulous over-poaching/hunting. Let's not forget how we nearly exterminated the California Condor (extinct in the wild but kept in L.A. Zoo and San Diego Zoo) and our symbol, the American Bald Eagle! AND...your cats look content and happy!

Hey, James. My first experience with a big cat was the Philadelphia Zoo in Pennsylvania back in 1970's when I was in my early teens. This huge tiger was in a cage that was about 40' x 15' inside a building. There wasn't many people there that day, it was just me & my boyfriend in the building. I'd always been fascinated with tigers, this was my first seeing one in person. (Big Nat Geo, Jaques Cousteau fan, then Steve Irwin though I prefer to keep my distance from alligators) This tiger was pacing from end to end, I felt so bad that he was in such a small space that had nothing but concrete floors, walls & bars. I stood there longer than my boyfriend wanted to, so he went out of the building. That tiger stopped right in front of me as soon as the door closed & looked straight at me, we just stood still looking at each other, till my boyfriend came back in to get me to leave. The tiger started pacing as soon as my boyfriend opened the door to come back in the building. It was a profound moment of my life I've never forgotten. Then there was a similar event with a siberian tiger at Busch Gardens in Florida. I got into an area where they had a cave like part of the observation area, ended up alone & same thing happened with a tiger lying down on a platform. It sat up and looked directly at me till someone else entered the area. I had always wanted to be a photographer for Nat Geo but my old fashioned father said that was silly, & I should find a husband & get married. I'd always felt closer to animals than people. I've struggled trying to relate to people all my life & be what was expected of me. My dad wasn't a bad person, he knew I was different, and he was worried that I needed someone to "take care of me," because I was different, though he knew I was intelligent. I'd always been hyper-interested into learning everything I could about animals, starting with dog breeds (I fell in love with huskies, though I never had one till I adopted one 11 years ago, he's my best and smartest dog I've ever had, and best bud) then horses, then birds, and so on. I've recently realized that my son, who was diagnosed on the autism spectrum, higher functioning years ago wasn't the only one with autism. Finally it became clear thanks to You Tube, why I could never relate to people, but could even approach dobermans & rottweilers that would not let anyone but their owners or immediate family near them. Those people were flabberghasted. I still do have a fascination with big cats (house cats are always attracted to me though I never owned one due to severe allergic reaction to them,) and had always wanted to be able to work with the big cats. Found out a few years ago from a vet who cared for big cats at a private rescue that he was also allergic to house cats, but not the tigers, lions or other large cats.😐 I was never able to pursue my dream, & my health will now probably keep me from trying. So I really, really enjoy watching your videos!😃 (& I envy the life you have, big time!💖) Ignore the people who don't get it that these animals have a good life & are well cared for. They would be very sad without the love & attention you give them. Keep educating as many bipeds😁 as possible.
