The commonalities among religions are found at a deeper level which involves universal values. Unfortunately the vast majority of believers, with the help of their religious leaders, are much more concerned with superficial rituals and customs, which differ sometimes greatly from one religion to another and can even be the cause of conflict and confrontation. It is thus ineffective to try to promote dialogue among faiths without firstly educating the believers to be able to discern between what is relative to each specific religion, such as its history and traditions, and what is essential to all religions, namely, their spirituality.

I was in relationship with Muslim lady. I cared her as possible as I can and she loved me. But Life happened. She says she want to break up with me because I'm not a Muslim. Personally, I don't believe in just one ideas but studying and learning multiple ideas so that I can be my best of myself. I believe in experiences, so I don't limit myself into one box of idea. Also I detest unreasonable constraints. If they works, I can understand. But if it make me not happy, then I'll defy it. Sometimes we need to break rules to make our own rules. It's not necessary following conventional rules is, I believe. The religion gave me one of saddest moment, but I don't say it's bad. Because it has had a function in Islam society. I applaud the lady for her invitation to interview-faith dialog, mutual civility and arriving at peace. One of the first steps in this direction is to call out religions and scriptures that have patently absurd, and unfair prescriptions regarding women. For instance, Manu Smriti, a Hindu treatise that has been written by no one person but has influenced social mores, has patently misogynistic recommendations regarding women. Modern Hindus have no hesitation in condemning and distancing themselves from such prescriptions in their scriptures, and rightly so. Modern Christians have similarly distanced and are vocally critical about the prescriptions in Bible that are misogynistic and unfair to women and people of other faiths. I would have liked Dr. Hyat to similarly being critical and distancing herself from Shariya prescriptions that daughters inherit one half of what the sons inherit from father's property, and that as a witness, a woman's testimony be given only half the weight compared to men's. Instead of whitewashing that Shariya treats women equally, I would like educated, modern Muslims to speak up and examine the Shariya critically.
@bn56would4 жыл бұрын
B Sridhar The issue with that is, Qur'an is considered to be the word of God (Allah) and thus infallible. In the cases of the treatise you were talking about and the Bible, well they've mostly been written by humans. And humans are imperfect, unlike what God is believed to be. This is why the concept of a "Liberal Muslim" (especially one concerning a clear alteration of the Qur'an) is theoretically impossible. In the past, there have been movements, such as the Mu'tazilah, who had interpreted the sayings of the Qur'an on predestination and free will metaphorically rather than literally, but were eventually opposed and brushed aside by more theological movements.

Despite her well intentioned message, this woman failed the moment she said, "respect all faiths" and adding, "When asking a question, do not question their faith." In order to initiate any honest dialogue, everyone's personal truths must come out from the shadows and into the light of scrutiny since truth has no version. What faith does well is keep people from seeking the truth by making them hostages in the complacency of delusions. This innocuous sense of comfort ultimately impedes progress while giving traction to irrational thought and behaviors. Don't believe me? Turn on the news...
