My core objective is to create my chi recharge spot..eg flickering fire scented with pine cones, with my feet buried in thick sheepskin while lounging in a soft chunky sofa, and then try to figure how the rest of house should be cohesive. I think a lot of the Scandinavian pieces fit into the timeless mid-century modern style, especially Danish, Swedish and Finnish designers who created timeless staples of furniture, fabrics, glass and ceramics that are seen in almost every Nordic house today. Also, Scandi reminds me of a lighter version of Japanese, so unsurprisingly design houses like Iittala and Marimekko from Finland are also a huge hit in Japan and South Korea and have had collaborations that were very well-received in the Nordic countries. In all 3 of those styles there is a love for natural materials, quality craftsmanship and being mindful (if not minimalist) about what you own and how you treat your possessions.

Totally agree! As you said, the Nordic and mid-century styles share many of their philosophies and it's because they developed in similar time periods but in different locations. Both styles adopted pieces designed at the moment that today are icons that represent both styles. Personally, these styles are my favorites because they prefer quality over quantity and each object is a piece of art and crucial element into the space. Thank for sharing! ❤️❤️

@@DSigners Absolutely! It is minimal, without being minimalistic :) I moved to Finland almost 10 years ago and timeless design is universally appreciated in every single home. The story of how furniture and dining pieces were created is quite similar - people were poor, houses were small so they needed a few items that could stack and be functional, but also durable and made from what's available (hence why most Scandi designs have birch wood). Humble beginnings tend to bring fantastic design.

Before I can plan the interior of our newly extended living and dining room, my husband give me a surprise(😲 shock actually) by buying 2 chandeliers that have a glam look. Hello there! I really appreciate when you make descriptive elements of each styles in a grid. We are able to see quickly what are the main characteristics we like and how to look for compatible style. For myself, I'm a big geek, so I have a lot of books and toys to show. I'm also a tradtionnal painter illustrator and I need space for my workshop. AND my boyfriend is a streamer so we also need a place for his gaming studio. We enjoy nature, handmade stuff, multiple times periods styles and this is important for us that the accessories are useful, not just for beauty. (except for the toys, of course) . This is quite hard to find harmony between all of it!
