I am 65 and about a year and a half ago I had that same reaction. I stepped on the scale and saw yet more weight gain when I had been trying to eat less and make better choices. I said that day something has to give. I was aware of the IF eating method but had not put it into practice. It's true that IF is a process of getting use to it. I moved my fasting window up in increments but in the beginning I was watching that clock, lol. I lost 35 lbs and have so far kept it off. It took me 6 or 7 months and I am 8 lbs under my goal weight. I also prayed for strength to stick with it.

I do 18:6 intermittent fasting. I break my fast at noon and eat my 2nd meal between 5-6. I’ll move the hours around depending on our schedule or if we’re eating out or traveling. But 18:6 or on occasion, OMAD works for me. I lost 30 lbs in 2.5 months, then lost another 5 lbs during the holidays. Right now I’m a little below my goal weight but I have a physical next week and I’ll see what my dr says and what my bloodwork shows. The weight loss is a bonus but the real reward is how great I feel, how good my skin and hair looks, how much easier it is to move with less weight to carry, how good my clothes feel on me, how nice it is to sleep so well and wake up feeling great. It’s a lifestyle I intend to maintain forever.

I heard that I shouldn’t do that, that I should stick to the same time every day. I find that so difficult to do, and find maintaining the fasting number of hours easier to do. @julieg.57182 жыл бұрын
@@shaheenaggarwal The consensus I’m seeing from the Intermittent Fasting gurus I follow on KZbin (Dr. Sten Ekberg, Dr. Mindy Pelz, Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Eric Berg) encourage switching up the number of hours you IF daily as well as to consider varying the time of day when you eat. Keeps your body guessing and thus maximizes metabolic flexibility (a desirable state of good health)
@minnap2 жыл бұрын
@@shaheenaggarwal I do 18:6 pretty consistently due to my schedule but a couple times a week, I’ll do OMAD. Like for the last 3 days, I’ve eaten just one good nutrient dense meal a day at noon. That started because I wasn’t hungry at dinner time so I skipped it. Then I realized OMAD isnt a struggle. I’ve also been told that it’s ok to vary feeding times as long as you also maintain your fasting window. I saw my dr the other day for a checkup and he asked about my weight loss. He last saw me 6 mos ago when I was 35 lbs heavier and prediabetic. When I explained my IF journey and healthy eating, he assured me I lost weight the healthy way. So it was nice to get his approval. FYI I’m also no longer prediabetic. You should watch some of the KZbin vloggers mentioned here to get some guidance on how to maintain this lifestyle as well as your doctor. Good luck to you.

I'm a 47 year old male. I started 16:8 IF in early July 2022, more out of curiousity than anything else. At that time, I would have thought one meal a day (OMAD) was a crazy idea. I've been doing OMAD probably about 95% of the time for the past 3 months and am at a weight and waist size of when I was 16 and in high school. In terms of pounds lost since I started, it was 30 pounds or so -- nothing dramatic, but for the LONGEST time, no matter how much I excercised, my weight would never get below 185 pounds. Nowadays, my weight is 163 and I think I'll focus on maintaining this weight going forward. Major kudos to Dr. Berg, Dr. Fung and Dr. Jamnadas!

@Kristin Pruett from what I understand it is about consistency and allowing your body to heal. What I have been taught is that when you aren't losing weight with IF your body is healing itself from atophagy. I IF 18 to 20 hours every day. I refused to weigh for 5 months and could tell on my clothes. I thought I lost a lot more than I did...but I dropped 4 dress sizes. If you haven't given IF 6 month I would say revisit it. I did Atkins, body for life, hormone shots with low calorie diet, WW, etc. and this has been the easiest most satisfying way to lose weight than ever. I have seen endocrinologists, holistic MDs. It works but takes time.

@Debra Smith, From what I have learned so far you shouldn't feel like you are starving, a little hungry maybe, but not starving. **I highly recommend watching KZbin videos by Dr. Pradip Jamnadas.** He seems so passionate about helping people! He is still a current practicing cardiologist. He reminds us to focus on HEALTHY foods including HEALTHY FATS! If you are eating processed foods/sugars/carbs/sodas, then, yes you will be starving! But if when we fill up on veggies, protein (chicken/steaks/fish/eggs) and healthy fats (Avocado Oil/grass fed butter/olive oil/coconut oil/Avocados/nuts) then we will most probably be satiated longer and the fast will be so much easier. **I guess I should add, the above has worked for me SO FAR, I'm not a nutritionist or health expert, I'm just a simple gal, who after watching videos by Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, I have been seeing progress in the past 3 weeks since I started... I hope this helps someone else...

Do you add any honey to the tea during your eating and drinking window? Also, I am from the south and I do love to drink sweet tea during the day. I add 1 c. of sugar to one gallon of black tea and we drink the gallon within a couple of days.

Congrats! You look fantastic!! IF really does work. It has been the only thing to help me consistently lose weight when I am consistent. I've even done OMAD, one meal a day, and had a very large meal (usually a salad) that kept me full all day. I never thought I could fast any amount of time, but I have found that I can eat once a day, twice a day, in an 8 hour window or 1 hour window depending on my appetite for the day. We really don't need as much food as we think :) So happy for you! Thanks for sharing!

I've been intermittent fasting for 6 years. I started working night shift & it felt natural to eat 3 meals in 8 hours. I realized I was intermittent fasting long before i knew there was a name for it, so I did some research on it. She is accurate in saying that it doesn't really matter what you eat but I also choose to eat healthy meals MOST of the time. However, there are days that I do eat pizza or a burger, I love my cheat days hehe but ive never gained any weight in these 6 years. I'm 32 & I am at 114 pounds. I was 146 prior to this, so it's safe to say that intermittent fasting does work.

So many that talk about IF are doing the keto diet. I do not like to eat that way. I like my fruit, all vegetables, and healthy grains. For some reason, watching this is so freeing, and I'm going to give it a try. My natural appetite stops at 7 and starts at about 11 am. But usually, I am forcing breakfast in while I get ready for work, thinking I should. Today, I'll wait til 11! Thanks!!

Skip the breakfast! That is what I do now. It is so easy to leave the house without trying to eat real quick, or pack it to go because we have been told breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Not true. I IF. Most days, I eat one meal a day (OMAD). The rest of the days I do 2MAD. I cut all sugar, stay ultra low carb and don’t do anything fat-free. Essentially, Keto w/IF. I’ve done this since 2019. But I relaxed in 2022 and started eating things I shouldn’t have - gained about 15 lbs. I refocused and got back on track on January 2nd. I also decided recently to stop drinking alcohol. I’ve been sober now for almost 2 months. Since my reset, I dropped 10 lbs and 2 pant sizes, I’m getting quality sleep/rest again and my aches and overall inflammation is once again gone. Eating the standard American diet and having multiple meals a day is what keeps people unhealthy, overweight and drug-dependent. Glad to see your health journey has been so successful. I wish you all the best moving forward…

I am so happy it works so well for you. I have tried IF for about a month and has caused GI issues and insomnia..... made me feel good at first, lost some weight the first week, then the GI issues started after a few days and mad eme gain weight and not feel well. It might be a good thing very short term, but its not for everyone. It caused flare ups and overall body pain.... the constipation was also horrible and I drank lots of water and ate mainly veggies with fibre, it was not the food I ate, but the short eating window frame. I gave myself an 8 hours eating window.... Usually I eat BF around 8-8:30 and dinner at 5pm, then no more food after dinner is over. That works much better for me. But we are all different and our bodies react differently. I really wanted IF to work, I tried twice (once last year and again recently). Its been 3 weeks now since I stopped and I feel so much better and I lost the weihgt IF made me gain (mostly water weight from inflamation it caused)

As a result he dropped 15 lbs in 3 months and the dr is stunned to see he doesn’t have any evidence of diabetes and asked what he did. She was dumbfounded!

Hello! I am glad you are here with me. My husband has been on high blood pressure meds for many years. He started intermittent fasting with me. He is now able to wean off of blood pressure meds. He used to take it morning and night and now only takes it once a day because his blood pressure numbers are so good everyday with only taking one. His hope is to get off of the meds completely. IF really does work! When our bodies are not digesting, it is repairing and healing itself.

What I noticed that worked for me is eating my breakfast lunch and dinner within the time frame of 8:00 Am and 5:30 Pm and you can also snack (fruits 1 serving just to avoid sugar) or even up to 6pm (after that just water), and saw the weight dropping off, walking helps as well. Body feels better overall. I agree with you it is very flexible, you can extend your fast as you wish. You can start breakfast later if you wish.

Now this is the best explained information about intermittent fasting. All other videos make it so complicated and confusing to understand. I'm glad I came across your video.

I like the idea of not having to think about food. I found on the popular diets I spent more time in the kitchen with chopping, preparing, weighing and counting calories. Going to the store reading labels on everything and counting points took me forever. Thank you for this video because I have all the symptoms you mentioned, sleeping issues, joint pain, tiredness.
@sandysteinbrook2 жыл бұрын
You need to try this Ingrid. It is free! To not have to think about food all the time is freeing. I do not feel deprived eating this way. I still eat food, but since it isn't a diet, I don't have to think about a certain way of eating.

@@sandysteinbrook I’m trying it now, no bedtime snack, black tea in the morning. I’ve been stretching out the time that I fast little by little. What you said makes so much sense. My husband loves to cook and most of the time it was hard to figure out calories or points so I would not eat most of the day. I was always thin but since getting older I could not keep the weight off. I’m 67.

I'm so glad your video popped onto my youtube page today because I turned 50 in September and I need to loose about 14kg. I have done te intermittent fasting before I just fell off the wagon and need to start again. My body responds quickly to lifestyle change so that's not a problem. I'm looking forward to your tips that worked and the foods you chose to eat. Thank you for posting.

Would you also do a video sometime on how you got off thyroid medication? Thanks for sharing your journey - very inspiring!

Since I am not a healthcare provider, I have hesitated. BUT, I guess I could start the video by saying I am not, and that it is my personal journey. I could probably do it that way.

I love breakfast so I stop eating at 5:00/5:30 and then have breakfast at 9:00/9:30. We like to eat early in the evening, especially in the winter when it gets dark so early. I haven't weighed myself for a while but my clothes are feeling looser. I have also started not eating sugar for the month of January and that is also helping, you really don't miss sugar but you do get side effects from not eating it any more. I like your video.

Omg. Finally. A woman of my age speaking real English and telling me what I need. Thank you so much!!!!!! I will watch your videos But have a question. I enjoy an occasional glass of wine. Did you? Im wondering if I have it in the window will be ok.
@sandysteinbrook2 жыл бұрын
Have it in your eating window. But also, if you are out late an evening and enjoying a late dinner or drinks with friends, enjoy it. don't worry about any "window". Then the next day get back on track of your usually fasting and eating hours. I do not overcomplicate this. I still enjoy life and don't feel deprived at all.

I saw your post the other day on Insta and am SO excited about this video. I have been on a new weight loss journey since October (down 10lbs so far just from cutting starchy carbs and working out more) and am definitely interested in incorporating new things. I have been toying weight intermittent fasting but have not tried it yet, so I'm excited to hear about how you've done it.

You can do it, Judith! If you are to the point of "something has to give", then you are ready. You will be surprised how easy it actually is to delay eating. Our bodies have the ability to adapt wiring on food. Between the 13-18 hour mark, your body realizes no more food is coming in and has to start burning your own fat for fuel. I do 16:8. 16 hours of fasting and eat in an 8 hour window.

Thank you for sharing with us. It is interesting because we were always taught to eat throughout the day so you don't overeat at a meal. Thats how I've always eaten. I am 59 not overweight and pretty healthy. I had my physical in December and my numbers were awful! My triglycerides were over 400 and glucose 126. The doctor is asking me what the heck happened. He said you are actually considered diabetic! Do a low carb diet for 3 months. I was shocked! How could this all happen in a year? I never was never concerned about my glucose. Well I did my research and it is the constant eating and snacking I was doing. I would eat pretzels all day long, crackers, thinking they weren't bad for me. I stopped all the snacks and I am doing 18/6 hour fasting and I haven't felt so good in ages. The constant bloating is gone, the tiredness-gone, waking up ever 3-4 hours all night long-gone. My point is, it doesn't necessary have to be weight loss you are looking for in fasting there are so many benefits to limiting your eating window, it can be to reduce that constant release of insulin that contributes to Type 2 diabetes. I return to the Dr in March to recheck the numbers, I hope that they have returned to normal. I look forward to videos on what you ate in a day.
