Yeah, after 41 hours I finally got my glucose down to 149 and it wouldn't budge. I cleaned up my diet, eating very little carbs and my sugar is still very high. I've been doing this since 1/28/24. All my other labs have been much improved and have lost 14 pounds.

I remember the acid reflux thing from a Japanese study, showing that the reason of the acid goes back up, is because the sphincter from the esophagus into the stomach doesn't close. It doesn't close because the pH of the stomach is too high, so the liver just keeps dumping bile. The reason lemon juice and vinegar work so well, is because it quickly drops the pH of your stomach, and that sphincter closes. Problem solved.

My brother has had the worst case of acid reflux I have seen. Doctors were worried that he may develop cancer later in life due to the constant destruction of the cells in his esophagus. I also have had acid reflux for years and years. Well, we both watched Dr Ekberg's video on acid and what can help. Like you said, simple, just drink some apple cider vinegar (much higher acid level than regular vinegar) with water daily. Yup, neither of us has any problem with acid anymore. Guess all those Tums we took was the exact opposite of what we needed.

This man's advice on various fasting regimes and how to deal with the variety of issues that different people encounter when fasting I would say is probably the best I've seen or read. Jason will give you the information without the hype. I, for one, abhor all kinds of hype where things are accentuated or overly emphasised for effect. It was in fact Jason that introduced me to fasting. You see, we grow up thinking food is essential, which it is, but you would hear very few say that the body can function just as well, if not better, if you leave it to burn the fat you've stored. We tend to think that without food the body would be deprived of vitamins, minerals and all the essentials. That is true if you haven't any stored fat i.e. you're not obese or overweight. But if you are obese or overweight, it means you have plenty and you can therefore fast for many days without the worry that you're going to die. The body is a wonderful machine, it is a miraculous piece of engineering that can feed itself and heal itself. Even though we often throw so much abuse at it (mostly through eating too much of sugar based stuff), it gives us plenty of opportunity to repent and reverse the damage. Fasting is a wonderful way to do that. Unless you're on some sort of serious medical regimen where food is essential (can't think of one right now), fasting is by far THE BEST and FASTEST way to lose weight and achieve a healthy body.

Yes, I agree. Dr. Fung's explanations are quite good and he covers issues that others skip -- for example, the idea of ingesting something acidic to remedy reflux. I like his presentation style -- he can be quite technical and detailed, but explains things in a way that makes sense to non-medical ppl like me. He really helps me understand the nuances that less-informed YT'ers skip over.

I sleep really well when I fast!! It's the best thing about fasting. I have severe insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and every morning around 7 a.m. my blood sugar shoots to almost 300 whether I have been fasting for 10 hours or 36 hours. I like Dr. Fung's explanation of why this happens. I've got a ways to go still but I'm down 30+ pounds and using 70% LESS insulin injections now. I love doctors like Jason and Ben Bikman. I wish they were around 15-20 years ago!

My road to insulin resistance recovery has been long and winding with many twists and turns. A big breakthrough has been castor oil packs over the liver. The skin problems that I experienced for decades that included inflamed skin and weeping eczema were explained by toxic fatty liver. When I was younger I worked with toxic chemicals for ten years. At the same time I was a sugarholic. It seems probable that fasting caused too rapid a release of toxins. I now wear castor oil packs most of the time and have limited fasting for the interim. Literally within days sores on my scalp and face that I have had for decades completely cleared up.

I have been doing intermittent fasting for over a year, the least is 16 hours, but I will do 17, 18 and 19 hours, no issues as mentioned. I did my annual checkup with the lab taking blood today, and the nurse asked if I fasted, I said yes, she said how long, I replied 19 hours, she then said why so long, dont you get headaches. I told her it is healthy to fast, she thinks it is crazy fasting.

Same here - not having my tea and coffees in the morning, with milk, is a deal breaker for me! I think I've lost a little weight - I don't dare weigh myself as that would REALLY get me depressed - but I do feel better when I do 16/8 so it's worth persevering! I hope I lose weight as you have - that would be WONDERFUL!!

@@andersonomo597 , 100% same. Coffe, tea, even bullet proof coffe is a go, as long as it helps to keep going through the hours. And I have the same relationship with scale - after all the work I put in working out, building muscle, eating healthy, and now fasting, when the scale doesn’t budge at all it’s very depressing and all I want to do is to throw tge towel. But then i realize how loose my pants feel and good I feel and i just tell myself that it’s worth it! The scale and my body just are playing this joke on me like saying: you won’t see your weight drop no matter how stubborn you are - we win! The only time i get my weight is when i go for my physical- and i hate stepping on the scale then cause I already know :))

@@ilonaghine9690 I've just listened to 2 REALLY interesting interviews on "The Diary of a CEO " featuring Dr Tim Spector and Dr Giles Yeo. There's so much info there about calories and blood sugar spikes and how different foods affect people differently. Highly recommend listening to both - there's nothing 'visual' in either interview so you can easily listen while doing other things. Both interviews have made me re-think how I'm eating - I'll focus more on high fiber foods, more vegetable varieties and not no-carbs but fewer carbs. Cost = ZERO, benefits = can't hurt, worth trying!! And yes, the joy of looser pants, for me that's important, not the number which will send me into a deep funk!! Salt helps us retain a healthy amount of water. If we don't have enough, we can get severely dehydrated and our brain literally shrinks, causing negative pressure. PS: In this way, it is similar to caffeine, in which going cold turkey may cause a change in brain pressure that results in headaches.

I spend every other week out of town with work and do 48 hour fasts during that time. I've had great results with weight loss! However, I've noticed over the last couple months that within an hour of breaking my fast, I have to rush to the bathroom and have at least a large BM, often very watery. My theory is that the mass of the recent meal is somehow pressuring the colon to empty. With that fasting pattern, I usually go 2 days without a BM until the next meal. In about a year, I've lost 80 lbs!

The best adjustment that I made was instead of adding salt and potassium to my water, I just take a 3/4 teaspoon of pink salt in the morning and/or evening. I found that the chalky taste of water after three days would make any further fasting a big challenge. By taking the salt directly, I can continue drinking fresh water all day without the hesitation to stay hydrated. I can do five day fasts without batting an eye. I dropped 30lbs in five weeks at the end of last year. I've just initiated a four week regiment. I should drop another 20 or so before the end of March. I plan to be under 200lbs by June, and well on my way.

I just started doing the intermittent fasting 12 to 14 hours this year 😢2/24 coz I was frustrated with my test results of my blood work non fasting, my cholesterol is high n my sugar is high n my doctor diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes, let’s see after 6 months, though I exercise intensely 3 days a week coz am still working but I cut sweat/snacks in between meals, trying to listen your tube blogs all the time to understand what it is going on with my body 😢I believe it will make me better, thanks Dr Jason Fung🙏🏾

One of the wonderful changes with fasting for me has been feeling a little cooler. I am always hot which indicates my sugar is high. When I fast for over 12 hours, I can feel that my sugar is much better.

Hi dr Ging. I really appreciate your info it helped me a lot in deciding to intermitted fasting. How does this relate to following the "ice man" Wim Hof method. I go for a swim 3 x per weak also now that it is mildly freezing. Love it, but afterwards I keep cold for hours. Can I combine the two?

An observation about fasting: You still have to be careful about what you eat. Even though I fasted throughout this past holiday season I gained back 10 lbs of the 14 lbs I'd lost and am still having a hard time getting it back off. It's quite discouraging.

eat real food and lower carbs and you won't have to count calories to stay fit. If you have to work to stay skinny your diet is garbage, end of story.

I've had the follow issues and this is what I think is the root cause and a solution. 1. Headaches, especially in the first two days. I think this is lack of fasting practice and being hooked on sugar. I think my metabolism is not use to fasting and so doesn't properly get stored glucose into my body. Solution: Obviously, get added sugar out of your diet first. This takes about eight weeks. Next: work your way up to fasting more than 24 hours. With practice these issues go away or are greatly reduced. I almost never have fasting headaches any more or even hunger that lasts more than 30 minutes. 2. Low blood pressure when on BP meds. After 2-3 days of fasting my BP meds can drop my BP lower, quicker than usual because I am taking them on an empty stomach and my body is not use to having low (i.e. closer to normal!) BP. My heart rate also goes up, which makes me anxious. Solution: just take it easy the first couple of hours after you take your BP meds. At some point, you have to stop taking them I suppose. YEH! 3. Start to get weak and dizzy after 4-5 days of fasting. I think this is due to Insulin Resistance. My BG is lower than my "normal" 12 hour fasting level, but still plenty high enough for a healthy body. But because of Insulin Resistance my body isn't taking the glucose up any more. Solution: I haven't found one yet. I am concerned about pushing past this weakness without a doctor monitoring me. I am hoping that repeating 4 day fasts I will slowly get rid of my insulin resistance and then I can try fasting more than 5 days. It is a bit of a goal for me, not for any health reasons, but having a fasting BG below 70 and being able to fast more than 5 days is a sign that my metabolism and insulin resistance is back to a healthy range. If I'm full of BS, please correct me Dr. Fung. Following your advise is literally saving my life.

Hi Doctor, I am following your videos for more than a year. Now I am doing 16 hours fasting everyday and 8 hours eating. I lose 12 lbs. and my BMI is 24, I am 63 years old. No metabolic syndrome. I have Valvular disease ( Mitral and Arotic valve insufficiency - Moderate to mild). Can you make video on the valvular disease ? Is this valvular heart disease is reversible?

Do you know anything about maqui berry and chromium lowering blood sugar? Maybe combined with the fasting would be really beneficial. Can you do a video on this? I saw a supplement called GlucoBerry and those are the primary ingredients (as well as biotin). I’m curious to see if you have any more information on this! Thanks ☺️

Hi Dr Fung. Thank you for all your teaching. Can you make a video why ear imbalance is triggered by fasting? I find that when I exceed 24 hours I get a bad vertigo attack which also seems to be accompanied by low blood pressure. I have been unable to find anyone who addresses this directly and what can be done. I've taken electrolytes but looking back, maybe they were too little.

The a1c does not matter except as a marker. If you get sugar from the liver that means you are losing liver fat which is good.
