@@officialWWM protein and fats are more satiating than carbs though. Specifically it's protein that makes you the most full (of any other macro) and fat delays the emptying of your stomach so you feel fuller longer. You don't need to necessarily go low carb, but incorporating more of the other macros can make you more full. Everyone has a different macro split that works for them. For me, 40% protein, 30% fat, and 30% carbs keep me really full when I'm in a caloric deficit. Also, less processed foods and more fiber and more water of course like he mentioned already in his video.

The day after eating junk and binge eating, i will be hungry despite having consumed more calories than i burned the day before. On the days that im fasting and eating low calorie mostly plant-based food, including complex carbs, i'm not. People need to learn what type of eating works for their body.

So true. It’s hormonal. If you eat processed carbs and sugar during your feeding window, it will put you back in sugar burn mode instead of your own body fat for fuel. So your body will not only have a high insulin response which will store those carbs as fat -it will also ask for more carbs (the next day) in the form of stomach growling (gherlin) and glucose cravings.

I’m on month 2 and I am already down 21lbs. I eat between 11am-8pm. The first week was crucial, but now it’s not bad. I struggled with diets before, but this right here, honestly works for weight loss. Update 3/17/23: it has been 7 months now and I have lost 50lbs. I possibly could have lost more if I was consistent, but this DEFINITELY works.

I've been intermittent fasting for about three months now. I've never thought of my self as fat but incredibly I've lost 18 pounds. My love handles are gone and I'm starting to see the lines between my abs again. The first three days were a nightmare for me, I felt almost like I had cold symptoms. But after that it's not so bad. My eating window begins at 6 at night because I don't like sleeping hungry. At this point I'm able to work 10 hour days at a physical job with zero food no problem. For me fasting isn't a diet it's a way of life for me now. And yes I eat as much as I desire at dinner time, until I'm happy one plate two plates what ever I want. UPDATE: It's been over a year since I posted this and I still intermittent fast 7 days a week. I have kept all the weight off and am now staying roughly the same weight at this point since I've lost pretty much all of my excess fat. My stomach is completely flat at this point and I no longer have any sort of belly or love handles. I have also stuck closely with a work out routine since I started as well so I have gotten myself in shape again. I'm pleased to say I'm in the best shape since my 20s and I feel great. One huge improvement I've noticed since fasting is that I no longer get the little colds I use to get here and there! For me intermittent fasting is now a way of life. I don't think about food through the day, I don't feel hungry throughout the day, my stomach doesn't do so much a growl. I have very much so become accustomed to fasting and I will never stop, this is how I will choose to eat for the rest of my life.

Great to hear Ty Ty! Your experience is shared by many. We really have been getting very bad diet advice for decades. No, regular eating is not healthy / important. In fact it's bad for us. Breaking that pattern is what makes those first days hard. We are experiencing withdrawal symptoms! Burning calories through exercise works counter-productive for most of us. My advice is DO NOT EXERCISE until you are fit enough for it. No, breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. It's the meal you should cut away. It's not needed and all you are doing is activating the digestion making you hungry. Fat is ok. Carbs are ok. Even sugar is not that bad (for weight loss, that is, sure is bad on the teeth). We lose weight by breathing out! Many don't know this simple fact. You cannot 'burn off' the weight. Chemistry 101: law of preservation of mass. Instead we breath in oxygen (O2) and breath out carbondioxid (CO2). Same O2, but bonded with carbon (C). Where does that carbon come from? That's your weight being breathed out right there! Sleep is an excellent way to lose weight. Not wanting to lecture you as you are doing so great, just trying to inform people reading these comments because we've had such bad advice.

@wereadfda I watch what I eat. What works for me is cauliflower. It makes me feel very full. And when I’m craving soda. I drink A&w zero sugar root beer & zero sugar cherry Pepsi,& orange zero sugar Sunkist . Those (3) are the best zero sugar sodas for me. Taste even better than the ones with sugar. For juice a take a 32oz plastic cup with lid, add half of lemon water with a spoon of brown sugar & fresh mint leaves. With every meal. I take (1) ginger root capsule. Ginger tricks your brain to make you feel full. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat, because the ginger + cauliflower make me feel so full. I go hours fasting. But please talk to your GP before fasting. Make sure you’re getting electrolytes & don’t over do it or your sugar levels can drop very fast! Ginger lowers glucose. It drops my glucose too low. So I stuck on a piece of hard candy to bring my sugar level back to normal. Get a blood panel done before, during, after fasting. My GP noticed that the longer I fasted . The higher my cholesterol levels spiked& that was me eating Whole Foods no junk. To my GP surprise she realized fasting spike’s cholesterol levels, so be very careful. Do not just jump into fasting without seeking medical advise from medical professionals. Anyway, I have lost over over a little hundred pounds in 4 months!

I'm 75 years old and started low carb/high fat with intermittent fasting 10 months ago. I've gone from 190lbs to 162. I still eat mostly a low carb diet (always under 80g/day anyway) using fats for satiety. I work out at the gym 1or2 times a week (so, low on exercise really). I feel like I'm 40 again. My thyroid meds are down from 135 to 100mcg and falling, my blood pressure meds are on their way out! My relationship to food is so much easier - I still get hungry, but I understand that hunger gives the body a chance to take care of itself. Food is less important, cravings are almost non-existent, and I'm not afraid to be hungry. It has been a wonderful 10 months. I so wish I'd known about this half my life ago! @@kevincaruthers5412 Actually there are studies that show this. Check out Dr Jason Fung as he quotes many studies where people were put on calorie restrictive diets and lost weight in the beginning then stopped losing as their body adjusted. @@carolyndavis6657 Your body has the ability to adjust to caloric intake, ie decreasing metabolic rate to not waste energy. But your body can only adjust so much. After that, you lose weight. So, if you are talking about cutting a hundred calories a day when your body requires 2000 calories for it's basic needs, then you and Fung are correct. But if you cut your calories in half, you body can't make an adjustment that large and you begin to lose weight. It really is calories in versus calories out. You just have to take into account the body's regulatory mechanisms.

Agreed! I've seen some great progress in just a couple weeks! Down 8 pounds and counting! And as for "calories in, calories out", that is true as long as your body chemistry is properly regulated. Hormones like insulin, cortisol, leptin, etc, must be in balance for this rule to apply. Otherwise, it's just not that simple. Many people with endocrine and/or eating disorders are shown to be neutrally or even negatively affected by simply restricting calories (and these disorders are more common than we often think they are). One of the best benefits of IF is allowing some downtime for your body to focus energy on things other than digestion, I.E. regulating hormone levels. Also, as mentioned in the video, there is a psychological component to nutrition as well that is positively influenced by IF, like dietary awareness, self-discipline, and satisfaction at reaching and maintaining a goal (unless you have certain eating disorders or can't get past the initial hunger phase). And that's my 2 cents, according to my research and experience.

Couple advices, always have at least one or two glass of water before any coffee. The acidity of coffee will make you uncomfortable and will push you towards eating. Also, break you fast with low carbs high fat food. Like you, breakfast is my favorite meal. So i ofter break my fast with a couple eggs and a piece of ham/bacon. With that i am well until my next meal around 18h00. As a side note, i am diabetic (type 1.5 LADA) and since IF with proper rich food, i barely require insuline. You can do it Steven. I’m 3 weeks in down 14lbs. ( I have 100lbs + to lose)Vary between 18-21 hour fasts. I’m doing no exercise at this time do to knee injury. Like others I eat dinner with small dessert or treat and then have an apple with peanut natural butter or some other protein. I find it easy to fast from 9pm to 3pm. The last couple hours are easier if you are busy and hot tea or coffee helps feel full as does ice water with small lemon wedge. Have a snack to open your feasting window cause if you are ravenous and eat a large meal you will be running to the bathroom in 20 min. Dumping syndrome. I make split pea soup and gave a small cup hour or 2 before dinner and this took care of the runaway train lol. Best of luck to you.

The lack of support from the wife is very relatable. I wanted to get my cholesterol levels under control and my fiance insisted that we will save more money if I don't buy meal preps. 12 months later I'm in worst shape than before, and spent 400-500 hours wasted on working out. This may seem off topic but I'm doing the 16:8 and there is something that I found really helpful to encourage me. I not only need to lose the weight I also need to start some form of exercise to help the process along. I'm a chronic pain sufferer ( back ) but there are 2 things that really helping me. First is walking: a fitbit helps but bear in mind you DON'T need to walk 10,000 steps a day! Fitbits were developed by the Japanese to help athletes and they called it Tenke and people thought you had to walk 10k steps! Walk at a comfort pace each day, see how many steps you have walked and gradually increase at your own pace. Secondly: Although I suffer constant pain from neck to my lower back I found that I could manoeuvre myself into lying on my back ( I use a foam mattress to make it bearable ) get my my bum as close to the wall as possible and just have my legs up against the wall. Its a yoga thing and seriously I did that twice a day for 5-10 minutes each time and found my waistline reducing much quicker than anything I've ever tried! At first it felt like I had done 50 sit-ups and I was a bit sore but that soon eased up. Important: you only need to get your bum as close to the wall with your legs going up the wall, you don't need to do anything else, it's a pose not an exercise! I hope this can be of help for someone. You don't need to do it every day for life, just build it into you life when its convenient!

Most important part of Intermittent fasting is finding your proper eating window I think when you first start out. Everyone is different. For me the transition was mostly seemless, as I normally don't eat until 3 pmish. I used to do snacks I wasn't really hungry and the first few days my body was like, where my snack. Then it realized no more pre lunch snacks you. And then it stopped telling me I was missing a snack time.

I weighed 178 pounds on that August day, this morning (10/18/2021) I weighed 150, which is was my weight when I was 20 and could eat anything. So, does it work? For me, I would have to say yes. For other people, I can’t say. It does take some discipline, not so much the one meal a day part, but more so on the food choices I make. If you are so inclined, I’d say try it. It’s basically free (no 12 month gym membership!) and you can quit anytime you want.

I've been working on improving my health for the past over 14 months. I started intermittent fasting in January with a 12:12 to start. I'm now on a 14:10 regimen, and use a free app to track. I often exceed my dasting window, and shorten my eating window. I'm an insomniac so my circadian rhythms with sleep fluxuate and that plays a role in my fasting periods. I have hoshimotoes which is a autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid playing havoc on my hoemones including insulin, appetite control hormones, sleep hormones, diegestive acid release hormones, etc. Weight has been a prob for a long time as have vitamin deficiency and glucose control. I have hypoglycemia from this causing glucose spikes and drops. The only effective treatment for the disease I found was probiotics, which I make myself and consume daily. Still, it wasn't enough to really show a lot of tangeble results. The I added doing some full keto meals at the 8 month mark and my progress sped up. Then at the year mark I added intermittent fasting speeding up my progress further. My progress is still slow, but I'm down around 30 pounds. My thyriod panels show my t3 and t4 in normal range and my tsh, while still high is lowering. I have fewer migraines and glucose spijes and drops. I feel more rested on less sleep, and have more energy. A lot of my health prpbs are lessening or gone. I'm not saying any single thing I've done is a miricle cure. But all are individually powerful tools, and if combined right for a individuals needs can work wonders. I may not be on full keto 100% of the time, but that's because it csuses severe glucose drops after 7 days and I get really sick. Still, one of tge main principles of keto is eating nutrient dense and healthy foods. Keeping carbs low, and elimimaring starches. I can't eliminate starches, which are concentrated carbs because of the glucose drops. However, I can moderate the amount, and follow certain tricks to make absorbing those hogh carbs more difficult. For instance, both rice and potatoes become semi inaccessible carbs to the body if allowed to cool after cooking. Even if reheated it doesn't reverse the effect. The cooling of those carbs changes the molecular structure to make the bioavailablility of the carbs much lower so we absorb them less. Tricks like this help me moderate my carb intake even while eating high carb. Plus I make sure to use healthy fats, lots of veggies, and moderate protien along side certain spices that regulate insulin and glucose spikes. I use those spices in teas and home made flavored water as well as seasoning my food with them. I make sure to try and produce as much of my food and needs myself to cut on cost, but I'm figuring out how to make things work for me.

I did this method for almost a year while only avoiding sugar and exercise, and I've never had such deficit. Once I stopped it was a spiral to get bad habits back again. Its not only the fact that I spent so many hours without eating, but the discipline to do it made me to be more counscious on what I ate.

thats the catch, intermittent fasting is not a miracle method for weight loss, you still have to watch your calorie intake, if you fast with 20 : 4, but you eat like ++2500 calories per day on that 4 hours eating windows(for reference a big mac+large fries+large coke is worth about 1300 calories), you still going too gain weight or stay the same(depend on your current weight)

A big reason this was hard for you at first is your intake of carbs. Since refined carbs lack filling fiber, your body digests them very quickly making you crave food during the night and early morning. Carbs also spike insulin which has been shown to also increase hunger. It's why keto diets are so popular along with Intermittent fasting. I don't work out often and I did Intermittent fasting for 30 days and lost 6kg. I felt like I was eating less but I made sure to hit my macros. Again I did this along with Keto and I think that's why I lost so much weight so fast.

I've been intermittent fasting since February 2022. I started by first switching to low carb/healthy keto then went to 18/6 IF with 2 meals per day (~1500 cal/day, protein at 0.8 g/lb of BW). I think that going low carb first helped make the transition to IF easier. Lost 30 lbs in four months. Gradually still losing weight but more like 1 lb every two weeks. I was a HUGE fan of breakfast. I never missed it. Now, I have some coffee and that helps with the morning hunger (dawn effect I guess). However, since I love breakfast food, my first meal is breakfast food on most days. Lots of salads and veggies. Given my low calorie intake, I fear my metabolism will come to a halt. I work out several days a week and I have one "cheat" day where I try to get 2000 calories (my maintenance level if on a normal keto diet with about a 500 cal deficit) to help prevent that. It's now a struggle to eat 2000 calories in a day. Anyway, that's my dealeo. Find your way; make it happen.

Ive done IF for a few months now. I like not eating all the time and feeling hungry once in a while - no longer do i think about food all the time. I always work out fasted, no problem at all there. The two meals i eat are huge, delicious and healthy - i basically stuff myself so i dont want to eat anything over the next 18hrs. Some days are super easy, some are a bit harder, sometimes i have a day off. But i will never go back to how i was, and will keep monitoring my weight/waistline for the rest of my life to get an early warning if I’m slipping back into old habits!

Great video. I have not eaten breakfast in maybe last 10 years (and my weight has been 158 lbs in a decade or more and I am 186 cm). On the contrary if I eat, I feel lethargic and heavy in my body. And right now I took it to one whole level up, I am on my 42nd hour of fasting. target is 72 :) Oh and I dropped the coffee and tea as well. And if I listen to my body, I think my relation with food and hunger and how much we need food etc. is going to be transformed forever.

I was diagnosed with gall bladder problems and gastric reflux. I cut fat from my diet and began to eat later in the day and earlier in the evening so as to reduce the reflux. I had unintentionally started intermittent fasting. Even though I had my gall bladder removed 8 months later after it turned septic, I have continued as I went from 82 kilo down to 76. I have a latte about 9am and then breakfast/lunch about 12 noon and this is when I tend to have carbs and dessert like yogurt and fruit so it is my main meal for the day. I usually have something light, scrambled eggs with salmon for instance, about 5.30 and have finished "eating" for the day by 6pm. Previously I did have blood sugar problems but this has now rectified. At 65 I concentrate on protein and veg for repair and renewal rather than carbs for energy. I find that I am still losing weight steadily without feeling hungry. If I go out I eat when everybody else does and what is available as one day does not make a big difference or throw things off. I think that portion control is important and sensible healthy eating is the way to go. I do find after a bout of gastritis due to medication that resting the digestive system is a bonus.

8 month of Intermittent fasting (Omad) & keto. Lost 46 kgs so far. Blood pressure meds has been cut in half & im not "close to diabetes" anymore. All my stats has improved, my doctor is very impressed & happy. Only took me a month to go from 8/16 to 6/18 to 4/20 & finally 2/22-ish as my stomach simply adjusted & im no longer hungry when i fast. I mean i can still get hungry from time to time but its rare. The trick is to stay as carb-less as possible. Im nearly carnivor-dieting as it quite clearly helps.I think it also helps that the things you are allowed to eat on low carb is usually really tasty. Certainly helps keeping it going when you can put butter on everything etc. Certainly an eye-opener that is for sure.

Did you keep up your normal diet when you started your fast? If you changed your diet to be more “healthy”, then you may have just added another catalyst to your experiment. Eating healthy along with exercise by itself should also help to decrease weight and boost energy. Fasting on its own with normal diet is a whole different experience. Great video.

I've found it helpful as a way to manage calories without missing out. In an intermittent fasting window the daily caloric intake doesn't feel like a chore, when combined with healthy food. Broccoli, potatoes, cauliflower, eggs, feel like a cheatcode to meet my goals, basically freeing up room for the casual beer or naughty snack. Nice to be able to challenge my personal best fitness of age 22 (I'm 38) without really feeling that hard done by.

Intermittent fasting is kind of style to me that I had started when I was at the secondary high school. And now I am soon going to be 62 years old and do more intensively. I fast every alternate day. And mine is simple compared to your style as I fast from sunrise to the sunset abstaining from all drinking and eating completely. I can eat anything I want and no diet at all. Besides this routine, I also observe the Ramadan fasting once a year. So, practically it is my life style.

I love IF. I've been doing the 16/8 protocol 5-6 days a week (breakfast is also my favorite meal and I like to treat myself with it from time to time) for a very long time. I also tried the 6:1 protocol while I was training to run a Spartan Race 5(ish) years ago. As you say it's not miraculous with the weight loss but it helped me to manage stress and anxiety by working with delayed gratification. Also I feel like my body manages itself better (energy levels, fat storage, sleep cycles, mood, overall well-being...) when I have a consistent restricted feeding window versus when I'm providing nutrients and energy more often through the day. Don't know the scientifical thing but it's how I feel.

From my understanding, IF helps your body get 'fat adapted' so your body starts using fat as energy rather than sugar. If you are shaky and feel bad just going a few hours without food, then that's a sign your body is operating off of sugar and can indicate insulin resistance. That goes away after consistently doing IF and you have more energy. I've lost 20 pounds since February and find that I can go a lot longer without food and I no longer get that shaky hungry feeling. I started at 16:8 and slowly worked up. Now 18:6 is my usual with some days going 20+ hours fasting. I usually eat dinner at around 2pm since I'm distracted in the evening doing other stuff and then eat breakfast around 9am. I still eat three meals usually, but zero snacking.

@@Molehasmoles I agree with you in a sense. You can do any diet at all, but it you're taking in more than you use, you'll store fat. 100%. The tricky part is the metabolic side of things. Because :science: your body can't effectively burn glucose and significant fat at the same time. To burn fat, insulin needs to be low. Low insulin, low glucose. This is where keto and fasting get things done. I had what was basically a broken metabolism. Work outside, hike +/- 2-5 miles daily. Cut calories, 2 years=stayed over 280lbs. I was insulin resistant. Meaning my insulin was so elevated, I was basically unable to burn fat at all. Tried keto. Low carb, no sugar. First three days, felt like I was drugged & starving, because I was. No new glucose, plenty of food, but insulin too high to use it. Day 4, insulin must've finally dropped, because I felt fine. And three months later, 50lbs was gone.

@shansen008
@shansen008 2 жыл бұрын
@@Molehasmoles This is only one small part of why IF works. Id recommend reading a book on it to understand the metabolic effects beyond the simplicity of calories in vs calories out. I still eat around the same amount that i did before, just in a shorter window during the day. Ive lost 22lb in 2 months but have now tapered off. The thing is though, i can fell and see a difference in my body composition even though weight is relatively the same. So there is definitely more going on metabolically. You become more efficient at using fat for fuel. Carb burners have essentially turned that ability off. Thats why so many people who simply take the calories in vs out approach to dieting end up losing weight, but they end up "skinny fat". The weight lost is often times more muscle and bone density than the fat they are trying to get rid of. Not all weight is created equal.

To make transition to IF easier, I can provide two tips: 1) start easy, in the firs week just delay morning breakfast and have dinner earlier. 2) along with the increase of fasting period length, reduce your net carbs intake. The lower the variations in insulin, the lesser the hunger pangs. Finally, don't think of IF as something to do for a short period of time: it is a lifestyle, especially if one has a long history of failed diets and insulin resistance.

In June I left UK and went back home in my country and weighted 136 kg - 308 pounds after the surgery my first meal was at 11-12 am and the last one will be 6 latest 7ish. In 4 months since then without any physical effort just walking and working I lost 28 kg - 61 pounds. I feel more energetic and more happier and less anxious then before. Also, during this November month and then begin of December I catch a cold/flu and the symptoms were so low I couldn't even say if I have a cold or not compare to the previous years when was heavy obese. So I highly recommend to start lower your blood sugar and remove all the proceeds foods and start cook wholefoods. All the best to you all.
