This is a great way of explaining it to people new to therapy and worry that talking about “parts” is the same as DID( dissociative identity disorder)-it’s not, it’s normal to have parts...DID is just a more intense, disconnected version. And it’s helpful to realize that even parts that seem very negative, are simply holding a trauma...long-term work with the part can get it to work with the self to reveal or release the trauma, and the self can thank the part for the service it has provided. This IfS has revolutionized therapy imo💐

Could you explain more what you meant about the disparity between DID and IFS? When you say disconnected, do you mean the parts take over the host completely and in a chaotic manner rather than more intrinsically and controlled?… I went through a period of time where I experienced almost a loss of ‘control’ with my internal parts, I would describe it as dissociating between parts of myself with little to no control. This would often cause me depression because I felt like I was ‘misrepresenting’ my core desire and felt I myself would get lost in the chaos of the scattered versions of me. It was like feeling internally incoherent

My therapist recommended I looked into IFS since I was nervous about my ‘parts’ being something bigger and scarier. But it’s not and I’m learning and I feel less scared about it :)

This was really interesting to learn about. I always wondered about DID because it seemed like every other disorder was something that happens to normal people on steroids. Now I know it wasn’t the exception it’s just on steroids too! A coach just told me to look into Inner Child/Outer Child so it’s also interesting to me that different theories are saying basically the same thing I mean that dynamic is maybe not exactly if I dig into it but very close to Exile/Firefighter

Is it normal to give those personality parts different names/labels and even genders? Because i mostly feel like the "Firefighter" part of me is male, while im biologically female. Also i surely do not have DID/OSDD. So thats why im asking

I'm not a therapist or expert in any way but I use IFS with my therapist. Yes it is normal for parts to have different genders (than your Self) and different ages etc or not be human etc

The way you described this theory reminded me of the movies Split and Glass, where the character is diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder. It’s obviously just a movie and they certainly do get a lot wrong in the movie, but they make a lot of analogies to the roles that you describe (exile, manager). If I remember correctly, they even allude to the spotlight example that you gave... anyone interested in this should check out those movies! I liked them lol

i see where you are coming from but its really different.. You see.. IFS is a type of therapy method where's DID is a identity disorder caused by trauma at a really young age. Yes, we all have different segments to our psyche whether you have a disorder or not, but when it comes to DID there's no literal "Self" (capital s in regards to this video) because the psyche at an early age is subjected to extreme danger, as a defense mechanism crates what we call alters to deal with different types of traumas/situations, to take care of the body or (and a bunch of different things/they all can have really different unique purposes etc.) to keep the body and psyche safe. (this topic is really broad so sorry for the missing information cuz i can't explain everything in a single youtube comment but u can go and check out @DissociaDID if you are interested cuz they explain everything really well and they are the sweetest system ever, i learned a lot from them while i was researching DID)

@@mightymorphes I have D.I.D with over 200 parts and I can tell you there is the spotlight there. The capital S self cannot, ever, be destroyed. I was adopted into a very dysfunctional and toxic family. My adoptive grandfather was a 33rd degree grand master freemason and a diagnosed sadistic sexual psychopath. He ran a child rape/sodomy/hurtcore porn production/trafficking ring out of the masonic lodge/cult. Many other lodges from other cities and towns, all 33rd degree and up freemasons, were involved in the ring/cult. I was trafficked from age 2 until 20. They were well versed in the art of sophisticated mind control. We were also used in government mind control experimentation, MK Ultra, in Canada. These people purposely created D.I.D. They hijacked our ability to easily dissociate and used it to their evil ends. I am a main front for our system. Our system was created in the structure of a tree, every branch a different colour from colour programming. All alters were placed in different parts of this tree. There were many, many programs to be dismantled that were layered throughout our system. One of the most prominent being suicide/self destruct/go crazy programming which was layered throughout. Spinning, LSD and many other drugs, tons of torture, near drowning, tons of electric shock, dislocations of joints to cause pain, blood, guts, killing of animals, fake murders, fake alien abduction, fake demons, mirrors, costumes, films, music, hypnosis all used to create these elaborate systems where they can call out alters at will with a code, a touch or a tone. We were used in all of their masonic rituals. They worship Baal. We literally had a holocaust perpetrated against our mind and body for many years and the effects were absolutely terrible. That was the battlefield of the war waged against us. Our true being which we see and feel right at the center of our chest is an unlimited, vast and immense light made of pure love/compassion and was untouched by this war. That is the force that is guiding our healing and all parts to begin to be connected together. Like pieces of a puzzle, we are finding our place. We all make up one person.
