I planted buckwheat, alfalfa, and clovers as companions, chopped and dropped in the dripline for the dahlias, and am letting the rest grow. There's some amaranth that has self seeded in the same space, and that has been an effective trap - I'll let one or two go to seed again, just for that service.

Love using buckwheat as a cover crop, great to hear about how it can be used in interplanting. I'm going to experiment with this with my veggie beds

I have more trouble with spotted cucumber beetles on my dahlias than earwigs, but maybe they'll prefer nasturtiums too. I'll have to give it a try this year. As for buckwheat, I love it, let it self-seed everywhere, and pick the flowers for filler in bouquets. I find that they last quite a long time in the vase :)

I have a question about planting nasturtium at the time of dahlia planting - how do you wanter the seedlings without watering the tuber before growth has appeared? I love all the detailed info and creative ideas, BTW. Thank you.
@Blossomandbranch
@Blossomandbranch Жыл бұрын
With the soaking overnight and the once watering at planting it’s usually enough to get them growing. :)

I love this! I didn't find the seed mix you were talking about at Johnny's. Is this one you buy? Nasturtium Shoot Seed? Thank you so much. I am planning to add these to my garden as I do not like to use pesticides at all. I'm also a Briana and say it the same way you do :)

Thanks, Bri. Such helpful info! Wondering.... do you deal with grubs? And have you found any trap crops that work with them? I'm dealing with a bad infestation in my raised garden beds. Looking back to last year, I noticed that the pole beans I grew attracted a number of June bugs/Japanese Beetles. My guess is that they primarily laid their eggs in the bed where the beans grew and now I'm seeing the effects. I've lost about 20 plants and dug out at least 100 grubs from one 4x4 bed. Besides, continuing to dig them out, I'm wondering if there are any other solutions to get rid of them now. And then looking for how to prevent the beetles from wanting to lay their eggs in my beds this year. Any ideas? Also, really helpful info on the buckwheat to help with high P. We have high P and K (presumably from using commercial compost) and I've been researching what to do to get those levels back down.

milky spore for grubs - if I don't use it, I may as well not garden. So many grubs!! So many that the vols have trails all through my lawn - it's crazy!! I guess the vols eat the grubs, but there's a plethora of grubs - will never run out of grubs. If you learn of anything crop-wise to help, please let me know.

I mulched my cut flower beds with MegaMulch Expanding Coconut Coir from Costco and I've noticed many of my plants are yellowing. Not all, but more then makes me comfortable. Any suggestions? Also, I loved your course and have been pulling out Burning Bushes around my house and replacing them with the native list you offered.
