Interview Eden Medina over Project Cybersyn

Eden Medina, professor in Informatica aan Indiana University, schreef het boek Cybernetic Revolutionaries over de sociale revolutie in Chili en Project Cybersyn. Ze kwam het project tegen in een voetnoot van een ander boek toen ze literatuuronderzoek deed naar een onderwerp voor haar promotie. VPRO Tegenlicht interviewde haar voor de aflevering Cybertopia. The Cybersyn Project was designed to work in Chile with (the now) very primitive computer technology. The basic insights are still valid today and have been used on many occasions. The most difficult aspect is that many people just block themselves with the word "cybernetics" and would rather walk away from it than to appear to be ignorant fools. It is amazing to see how the NEWTONIAN SCIENCE PARADIGM still dominates and prevails over the thinking of most government and elected officials. Having been Stafford's close friend for over twenty years, I strongly disagree with EDEN MEDINA when at the very end she characterizes the project as not NEUTRAL. The thinking, the VSM model are ideologically neutral, the implementation in Chile had a popular democratic aspect to it, YES. The CYBERNETICS is still valid and only NOW is starting to catch the eye of a new generation of millenials that have grown using computers. Stafford's ideas are THINKING TOOLS.
