This brings back memories for me. I got my first set of acrylic nails in 1980. They used all white acrylic powder back then and if you wanted a French manicure look (not that it was a term then) you had to paint the nail bed area with transparent pink polish. I was actually the first client my nail tech had seen that painted her nails this way between appointments. Acrylic nails had only been available in my area for a couple of years at that time. They were not very popular back then and few women wore them. I LOVED them because I had nice nails for the first time. I was a nail biter since early childhood, so they seemed like a miracle to me. I was immediately hooked and went back for fills every two weeks for a long time. Wearing acrylic nails eventually broke me of my nail biting. A year after getting my first set of acrylic nails I was in cosmetology school specifically to learn nail sculpture. I wanted to go for the manicurist program, but my elderly "beauty operator" grandmother thought acrylic nails were a fad and that I wouldn't be able to make a living as a manicurist. Boy was she ever wrong! Still, knowing how to cut, color, perm and style hair, as well as facials and waxing services have been good skills for me to have.

You would have one plastic bag of only your tools.. and it would take hours. But they were not all Chinese speaking people..it was an enjoyable time

My first nails were when I was about 15 yo in 1992 and I know exactly what you mean! I was a nail biter too so I loved it when I could get my nails done. And I still to this day! And now that I am retired and don’t have to type on a computer anymore like that I can wear them longer with prettier designs and I love it! 😍
