This is up close actual video footage of the fastest set of acrylic nails done this last April of 2013 in Pasadena Ca. There is also an interview with Amy Becker before the footage that describes how she prepared and what happened at the event. Because Amy's time upset the former record holder, many accusations were thrown around by spectators who didn't know the rules. Amy did extensive preparation for this event which included sculpting 2-3 sets of acrylic nails a day for weeks before this competition. She makes it look easy but it was anything but. Watch her as she sculpts the acrylic for one hand while using pressure on a finger of the other hand to make sure the forms don't fall off!

With 12 years experience working with lawyers, I understand what you did, you came up with a genius idea by thinking out of the box without breaking the rules. I bet you went over the rules over and over to make sure you didn't break any by just thinking out of box. The average person wouldn't have thought of that. That's how lawyers think when their looking for a needle in a hay stack when their working on their client's cases. Good job!!

Awesome win, Amy! Using acrylic nail forms instead of paper forms was incredibly creative. I love that your unqiue spin created a clean shiny surface, almost no buffing, and the competition was for the fastest finished nails. You just used a common nail form in a very imaginative and creative way by sculpture in reverse- and set the record. How cool is that? No regrets, you beat the competition with a new rendition, like a true artist.

I am licensed in Pa and I don't see why people are just so petty and accusing you of cheating when what you did looks like it would've taken tons of EXTRA time beforehand and work as well and I truly believe that this method of applying full sets could become very popular with slight modifications and obviously more time to perfect the arch in the "tip".. Which is why I assume you would never do it for a paying customer since the method is so raw and new/ but you really are so genius to have come up with it with the people you worked with... I'm glad to see the field growing and evolving:)
@MommyOfZoeAndLiam
@MommyOfZoeAndLiam 8 жыл бұрын
I was thinking this could become a cool way of embedding things into the tips, like if you dropped something in the form, like a large jewel and then did the tip acrylic over it, then when flipped it would be on the top of the nail, but embedded in the tip, not just glued on the top. Obviously you would take your time and make it perfect, and you could do the rest of the nails the normal way if it only needed to be embedded in an accent nail or something. Innovation comes from competition. If your not worried about being faster or better than someone else, you don't think about ways to get there.

Well let me start by saying kudos to you @amy becker for winning the contest. Its obvious to me from watching the footage that you had an official sitting at the table with you, and then there was an official that checked each nail individually, and the materials that you used were in plain sight of both officials. Im sure being called a cheater and people being, indignant about their opinion must have been very disconcerting. But if you don't mind me saying so, I find it humorous that these people didn't read the rules and understand them as you did, plus you made the nails upside down and backwards faster than they could do it. This sounds like a case of pure jealousy to me. So don't let these people get you down, enjoy your win.

Wow! That was awesome! The forethought and practice it must have taken is amazing and the idea to do it backwards so the white tips cured first and then to flip it so the pinks stuck directly to the nail was what made it NOT cheating...no gluing, no tips. How is that so different from creating a nail on top of a form? I think it was great! I think innovation is what is the point of the competition is, otherwise no one would make advancements in the art of nails. This way you did it make me think of cool things that could be done like setting things like jewels into the mold and putting the acrylic over it so when flipped they are on top, but embedded into the acrylic rather than on top. Good for you! And holding one firm on top of a finger while continuing to work on the others??? Wow!

(My English is not my first language, I am a self taught. I hope you understand if you find a grammatical mistake) The last time I saw you, you were at NAILPRO Pasadena 2013 and I felt very shy to get closer or even say hi to you. I sincerely admire you so much. You are an example for me. For that reason I wanted to try myself the competitions and I tried twice in 2013 in the flat paint novice category The Eyes have it All (I saw you won!) on Long Beach and 3D on Pasadena. Both times I felt very nervous and didn't win a trophy or any of the first places. On my first competition I felt so overwhelmed and ! stayed at the very back of the award winning room at the Long Beach Convention Center. I met Tom Holcomb's brother there... from far away too >.< In both opportunities I felt so out of my league. I recall thinking "what am I doing here?"... Then I read your article for NailPro Magazine and discovered you felt the same way, just like me, on the first time you competed! Today, with your video, you are like... opening a different door. Winning does not mean you are having all the glory but more than that! You became stronger for me in this video! There's people out there trying to over shade your accomplishments, it is not your fault if they do not give a try themselves and decide to stay behind. You are growing stronger before their eyes and, with all my respect, maybe they do not like to feel weaker...not even realize it! Your winning is not making you morally stronger but the struggles you are facing after all those name callings are developing your inner strength... because you are going through hardships and decided not to surrender. There are some changes in the rules for this year which were different last year about the use of forms. Last year you were competing under the NAILPRO rules and all the well trained judges witnessing your work were ok with the innovative way you were sculpting nails. Last year also I heard a lot of negative criticism for Jhon Hauk when he won the longest nail... To witness all that negativity after someone wins made me feel afraid of even trying another competition. But then, right before ISSE Long Beach 2014, I happen to find your video. This video! So...I am not quitting the competitions. I am not quitting on you Amy... I will be competing again and again and then, when I win I will show you my trophy :D

Amy - congratulations on a competition well done! You deserved to win, hands down. Whenever something new is introduced, especially when it includes progressive thinking (thinking outside of the box) there are always going to be individuals who feel some how done something was done unfairly. We work in an industry where thinking outside of the box is crucial to our success and you proved this point in your approach to the competition and then by winning. Great job! As you said, this is not a beauty/perfect looking nail work, but it's amazing your speed and coordination and the awesome ideas you came up with to help you keep the molds in place without smashing the products. This is definetly a time saver if you work under less stress for a salon work. I would definetly give it a try (in a more relaxed way... probably in like 30 min or something, since doing the regular way can take me up to 1h...or more). This is awesome! And, honestly, can be a money maker for many people!

Amy Becker - #1 hacker of acrylic nails! These will NOT chip & look strong enough for a PE teacher. You blew _my_ frickin' mind 🤯 Good for you. You deserve the record! Hope there was prize money too. Haters gonna hate, screw em. I'm so gonna _try_ this on myself, just _much, much, much slower!_ 🤗from this🍁gal.

you will find haters of your creativity everywhere you go, hater are your motivators, it seem to me they are just mad because they did not think of it first. keep moving forward i think it was awesome. skill is skill no matter what tools you use.

Really impressed with the whole time saving system you put together, down to using the foam block to fill, then flipping it over... Really brilliant!

okay i have the biggest problem with dual forms. They ALWAYS break at the tip because when i press them down the excess acrylic seeps out from the sides and when the acrylic is done setting the tip is so much thicker than what is on the nail bed and they ALWAYS break on me. What is the secret to keep them from breaking?
