he was involved in match fixing. 100%. It was his chance to deny. But he never denied in clear words. Never the less, terrific player of his era and 1st WC win was all because of him. Nobody can take that away from Kapil. It was Government's dilemma on how to punish such decorated player and national icon when they have so much overwhelming evidence. It would have made more damage to nation's youth confidence. He was let go off the hook, but he was never a part of Indian Cricket after that. From Pakistan i would say there are very few Indian cricketers i have respected and admired just like we have cricket stars in Pakistan. One of them is Kapil Dev along with Sunil Gavasker and Ravi Shastri. Even if im a Pakistani i feel the people like Kapil Dev are sons of the soil regardless whichever country they belong to. Kapil Dev has made India proud for the first time and brought world's attention that this country has sons who can prove their metal with loyalty, dedication and hard work. I felt very bad while watching this video where one of the greatest stars of cricket from across the border is sitting confused and in awe of expecting leverage from his own country men to prove that he wasnt wrong. This is really something very sad. For the love of the cricket and the game for that matter, Kapil ji, you along with Imran Khan, Sunil Gavasker, Wasim Akram, Ravi Shastri will always remain my heroes. Kapil is a legend. He is the reason for cricket to be a religion in India. He single handedly won the quarter finals against Zimbabwe in 1983 world cup.. India were 70/6. Then kapil scored magnificent 175 single handedly and won the match. If he has not done that we would on have reached semi- finials. This was shared by krishnamachari shrikanth in an interview. Who can forget the catch caught by kapil which took Richards wicket in 1983 finals which was the main reason for India's victory in 1983 finals..

As for Kapil, I say INdia beat West Indies in Berbice several months before 1983 WC and I was at Lords when India won WC. Kapil single handedly won the match in that WC against Zimbabwe. It is an understatement to say that without him at the time, India would not have won. In my opinion, Kapil did more for Indian Cricket than anyone else, including Gavaskar and Tendulkar (both Legends of course). I know that there is no love lost between Indian and Pakistanis fans, however, among the players of both countries, there is respect and admiration for each other. As a Muslim (from the West Indies) whose forefathers came from India, I love both India and Pakistan and I root for them - after the West Indies, of course. When Pak plays Ind, I remain impartial. It is sad and a shame that Kapil is almost ignored by the BCCI these days just because of his involvement with the other 20/20 league several years ago. Kapil is a hero and an iconic figure for India and Cricket fans all over the world. He deserves better.

Wasim was a great bowler and yes, like many others before and after him, they try to get an advantage by roughing up a ball every now and then, but not all the time to be labeled a cheater. Outright cheating like a fielder claiming a catch when he/she knows that it was not taken cleanly, is cheating. Edging a ball that was caught and not walking could be considered cheating if done several times over career. Roughing up the ball or non-striking batsman backing up too far is sneaky and against the rules, but not serious enough to label one a cheater. I think that you are being unfair to Wasim. Even great spinners, chuck one every now and then. Umpires knows that, but they only call it when it's done one too many times by same bowler.

The year 2000 was a black year in cricketing history and will remain so.
