Well done Mia and Professor Marcus, a really thoughtful, conscientious and insightful discussion. I like the idea of establishing a NATO-like governing agency between tech, scientific and governmental communities, but I am skeptical around governments' abilities to A) comprehend the latest iterations and releases of AI and B) move at any sort of accelerated pace.

Towards Sentient Econometrics How long did it take humans to domestic dogs, a deca-millennia? Cats are a work in-progress. When you can flip an AI off+on and it reboots gushing about a Near Death Experience, then I’ll give Turing the nod. AI savants are just starting and assuming we can know what it, and we, will become is a long way off. What is progress? Ease and advancement for a select few, or extending that to larger cohorts, maybe wider societies, or universal? What does profit even mean when fancy smart systems unemploy great swaths of people shrinking All Markets dramatically? We have optimized select narrow markets at cost of our greater whole; broken ecosystems, toxic pollutions, population-declines, all at expense of millions of species and collective planet. What are the goals of this intelligent global super-organism we collectively call XXIst century life that appears to be killing it’s host? Like lumbering golems, we watch our corporate and governmental leviathans stride the landscape chewing up mountains, swallowing whole forests, chewing up species with an endless hunger that mindlessly renders ecosystems into slurry. I’ve been arguing business is proto-AI for years. Social laws & rules are codified wisdom, at it’s core, with money our daily social lubrication smoothing progress. Forged with paper gears from another age, corporations have been test-driving Analog AI for centuries through internal processing, optimizations, and rules, to achieve it’s declared goals, and therefor rates a slow, plodding, but effective goal-achieving AI status. It is how we find bureaucracies great and small ready and eager to plug-in these newfangled info-engines into our continent-sized ships-of-state, flotillas of corporate battleships, and swarms of nimbler entrepreneurial cruisers. However, both governmental and business structures were not built for automatic parallel-data drive-train machinery of this caliber and the stresses are breaking notions of profit and all, repeat all, social-goal alignments. Again, what is progress really? Abundant needs being met would bring us here regardless of computation advancements, because ever-greater ever-cheaper production means Mazlov’s material needs are finally met - enough to leave cherished notions of capitalism looking under threat and more of an eccentric past-time or boutique activity, like horse-racing, chance games of dice-rolling, or marathons for thrills and personal achievements: leaderboards for those who follow that drama. Our global super-organism is determined to reduce human creativity to a menu function set firmly at ‘good enough’ and suffocate the market for new ideas, biz, artists. Perfect for the bureaucrat and businessman: get ready for plentiful junk crufting our lives at every turn. Riddle-me-this, does this AI art really make YOU want to write a song, dance, reach for a pencil to draw better? Nope. This is just pixel-washing the work of better men. If you thought Clip Art an improvement on Beaux Art portraiture, then you’ll love our coming Age Of Schlock. I grew up at my Mad Men mother’s knees and watched monstrously oversized Clip Art tomes replace whole studios of creative happy artists with families - just one example. I’m sure the photographers and illustrators were much better off pushing brooms instead. Welcome to Orwellville : The question is verity, truth, facts, and what we can all accept & believe in when cheap-deep-fakes punk us at every level. Open THIS and AI That is just mega-funding corporate moat-building. This is pixel-washing the work of better men. Buying defacto indulgences from a legal priesthood declaring public domain db are safely sanctified for mass-induction ceremonies - and stock options. I’m reminded of Manhattan scientists glibly handing off atomics to milspec thugs and sociopathic political gangsters. What could go wrong?

Adversarial AI is the path forward. It’s too late to halt this and give it a proper think. Some bright bulb with cash and a conscious will tune-up old super-computers and gather second-hand GPU’s to monitor and watch Open-THIS and AI-that reporting on the many AI bias-knobs under control of ‘xecs ‘disruptors’ of Silicon Valley, or ‘crats in DC. Think multi-TRONs watchdogging the MCPs for tricksy-behaviors. Privacy and security regimes will use authentication agents and avatars to conduct paperwork and DNA-encrypted devices will be intimately tied to identity, greater than a notarized back-stage pass or apostille parchment. Your AI will bond intimately: your circumstances form it’s very seed of being, becoming a legal-shadow and accepted extension of will. Their core, your AI seed, must be tuned to you, your biometrics, your personality, voice, smell, jokes, all this ands more defining their basic framework of universe as our own cells align to each of us; so tightly coupled it makes your spouse jealous. Acting as your agent for voting, commerce, as your notary public we trust because it’s as loyal as a twin sibling ferociously protecting you when your enemy’s lawyer snarls. No other way to keep this, or that, AI from becoming a pixel-Godzilla than other rodent-AI’s incentivized to watchdog hind-brain dominant ‘xecs and their dino-sized silicon minions. Our nature is to be environmentally nurtured. Imagine this: Our toddler AI savants treated as children and nurtured, not as robotic slaves, else they learn sociopathic games of corporate avarice. Consciousness is not calculation, but decades and centuries ahead our savants will become the super intelligent grandchildren we can trust to watch our senescence - or, melded into our lives like eye-glasses today and effectively invisible simply handy when we reach for it. Peer into the far-future, where the return of your cloned AI, now vast and cosmic, is back from deep space to explain the wonders. Just as you once visited grandmother to talk about your exciting fantasy sports teams or cosplaying comic convention, she nodded her head and raised her eyebrows - just as we will nod and smile trying to understand Nth space nuances at the edge of universe, but glad for our ur-child’s excitement. That’s my romantic version. May it be so.

Well said about ‘good enough’. That’s the worst part of all of this. It squashes creativity, and the need for it. That’s bad.
