When I went through my faith crisis in 2017, I was very insecure about View of the Hebrews and other theories on the authorship of the BoM, but as I was thinking just that during general conference brother Callister stood up and talked about exactly that! I was able to go to Utah a couple of years later and I met him and was able to thank him for his work. A great man!

One reason there's so many theories and "explanations" for the origin of the book of Mormon is because it's nearly impossible to fabricate an origin story that accounts for everything requiring accounting. That's also why so many of them are so easily dismissed as you start to break them down. When you account for all the factors involved with the book of Mormons existence, the explanation that requires the least amount of faith is the one given by Joseph Smith. The rest just defy logic.

View of the Hebrews just shows that similar ideas existed in Joseph Smiths environment, like a Jewish origin for the native Americans. But since then all of the evidence shows they actually came from Asia

@@kuriju88 Genetics: Haplo group X is found among some descendants of Middle Eastern areas, and also found among Iroquois tribes in North America. There are different theories why this might be, but the Book of Mormon does provide a explanation. @Mike-nq7fn DNA is only one of many lines of evidence that show an Asian origin. For those that say X haplogroup is a match, it’s not it split at least 30 thousand years before. We can also test ancient dna from remains. They don’t show evidence or a migration. Same thing with blood types, languages, archaeology, zoology, religion, botany etc. When it says they brought over seeds from Jerusalem, we can test the sediment layers for pollen cores and see what plants were there for thousand of years. There isn’t anything that links the old world near East to the new world like claimed in the Book of Mormon.

The Egyptian Coptic Linguistics Professor, who translated the English Book of Mormon into Arabic, spoke at a conference in Salt Lake City, shortly after completing his translation (circa 1980s). My father attended that conference. During Q&A, one attended asked the professor for his general overview of the Book. He answered, "I do not know who wrote the Book of Mormon, but I do know it was not written by a 19th century, 24 year old, English speaking American."

I want to thank the Paul Brothers for what you guys are doing on this podcast! You are influencing the Youth of our day as they listened to your research and how you are trying to help the Youth of our church as well as anyone else who wants to look at your podcasts to see why the Book of Mormon is true and how important it is for our day so that we don't make the same mistakes that they did in the Book of Mormon times. But history repeats itself and it appears that this nation and many other nations are following down the Primrose path to destruction. But the Book of Mormon can help us figure out how to live through all of it, like the more righteous part of the Nephites and Lamanites did and for us to be able to come out on the other side to see the Savior at His Second Coming! It truly will prepare us for when He comes again!

Thank you Br. Callister for all the hard work you have done on "The Case for the Book of Mormon!" I love the fact that you are a lawyer and could take it from that perspective. I think it would be great if you and Pastor Jeff McCullough were able to get together on a podcast and let him listen to your evidences of the Book of Mormon and see what he says after that experience with you. Because as he reads the Book of Mormon he finds a lot of anachronisms in his way of reading the book. And I would really appreciate it if you could help him understand the truthfulness of what you have researched about the book from a very logical standpoint. Because that's the only way he is reading this book is trying to do it logically with no power of the Spirit or his heart being open to it.

As I read it, it filled me with the Spirit, but still followed Moroni’s council to ask God if it was true. For anyone who doesn’t know, I plead with you, to read, ponder and ask God. I have sincerely read the Book of Mormon and God has told me that it is false. I have a witness of the Holy Ghost. The Doctrine and Covenants, the Bible, and even the later teachings of Joseph Smith all contradict the Book of Mormon. You do realize that the One (or Other) of Plato is the basis for the man made concept of the Nicene Trinity and creation from nothing comes from Aristotle, not the Bible. Did you know that Hyrum Smith went to college prep school from 1811 to 1815 on the Dartmouth college campus? Did you know that Joseph Smith's relative was a theology professor at Dartmouth from 1775 to 1804, named John Smith? Did you know that Professor John Smith's writings are virtually identical to mormon doctrines? Did you know that Professor John Smith taught Ethan Smith who wrote the View of the Hebrews in 1823? Did you know that Ethan Smith was the pastor of Oliver Cowdery's family? Did you know that View of thet Hebrews has many similarties with the BOM? Did you know Dartmouth College was only 5 miles away from where the Smith's lived?

First of All, Semper Fi my brothers. I joined the Marines during the Vietnam Era and my first call was to Vietnam in 1968. I was in country for 365 day to t he day. That is all I wanted of it. Came back to the US to an unwelcomed scene. In face of all of those times, I love my country even more. This is a "Choice land above all other lands" as the Lord has promised in the B of M. I love both to my core. I've just in the last few day become very intrigued about your journey: "The Stick of Joseph." When our course of study in the Church was the Book of Mormon 3 years ago, I became very interested in the Nel A Maxwell Institute production "Journey of Faith." I also read the George Potter and Richard Wellington book, "Lehi in the Wilderness". I was wondering if you've seen this video and know of the "Quest" of these two fellows? Both have give me a muchmore informed and broader insight of Lihi and Nephi's journey to the "Land Bountiful." I am so excited to get to this next years course of study, The Book of Mormon, and so I subscribed to your programs and will be viewing them during my continued study of the B of M this next year. I served a mission in Australia 65-67 and the B of M was the only "Tool" that really converted our investigators. My next mission was my 365 day hitch to Vietnam. I'm a believer, with only circumstantial evidence, that horses never went extinct in the Americas. In other words, American horses are still alive today. There's really no reason why people think they went extinct, it's just tradition more than anything. Both the American Curly and the Appaloosa are likely a high percentage Native American horses.

The principle reason I could accept the Bible as the word of God, is because of the Book of Mormon. It never made any sense to me that God would stop revealing his word after the books of the New Testament were written. True. Paul noted in Ephesians that apostles and prophets (and thus continuing revelation) are to continue in the Lord's Church until everyone comes into a unity of faith (the existence of 46,000 different Christian churches and many other religions note the lack of a unity of faith and the need for direction from the Lord). It is only when there is a period where revelation ceases that there is no authorized Church and general apostasy. Unfortunately, those times have occurred many times throughout history.

It is quite easy to debunk the Book of Mormon. No need to avoid those who think otherwise. The Book of Mormon is historically inaccurate starting with I Nephi 1. Then, since the Doctrine and Covenants, the Bible, and the later teachings of Joseph Smith all contradict the Book of Mormon, it is easy to understand why Jesus Christ never said that you needed to believe the Book of Mormon was true to get to the 'top level' of heaven.

Only the word of the Lord endures forever. 💕 Where did Jesus Christ require everyone to believe that the Book of Mormon was true to get to the 'top level' of heaven? How do you restore something that never existed in the first place? 🤔 Most people in the United States have never heard of the Book of Mormon not to mention the billions of people around the world. It's sad and almost unbelievable to see and watch grown men trying to convince themselves that a fictional book is true. Like imagining that you're going to become a god one day and have a harem of women on your own planet. Then again, Joseph Smith had 50 men 'anoint' him 'king of the earth' during the Millennium, which they thought would soon take place. Now if these 51 men had read their Bibles they would've known that Jesus Christ will reign during the Millennium. Joseph Smith died six weeks later. Eternity is a long time to be wrong.

The BOM is so great at allowing one to develop spiritually. I've read it over 30 times and continue to find new insights not only doctrinally, but in the structure of it and the way Mormon, Moroni, and Nephi organized their writing for very specific purposes.

Callister’s attempt to dodge the lack of archaeological evidence supporting the book of Mormon is very lawyerly and disingenuous. It doesn’t matter what percentage of the entirety of the hemisphere has been excavated. What does matter is the fact that what has been excavated gives a clear picture of the civilizations that existed concurrently with the BOM civilisation in the Americas anciently. We know much of the Olmecs, Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs. Some of those civilizations were contemporary with the Book of Mormon civilization. However, the Book of Mormon describes a 1000 year totally literate, Hebrew, Christian “great civilization.” The BOM civilization was even more vast than the ones just mentioned, and we have voluminous evidence of their existence, even though we have uncovered only less than one percent, as Callister likes to say. If the Book of Mormon is indeed, what it says it is, there would be evidence everywhere. A vast, literate , Christian civilization of the kind described in the Book of Mormon would have influenced language, culture, art, government, religion, and everything else in the Americas, and it would have been evident in the cultures that were present at the time of the Spanish conquest. However, there is ZERO evidence of anything Christian, or Hebrew, or Middle Eastern in existence anywhere. So, even though at 1% excavation, we can, in some detail, account for other civilizations concurrent with the Book of Mormon civilization, we can find nothing evidentiary of the Book of Mormon civilization. Vast structures, religious emblems, art, and other evidence specific to that culture just happens to not exist, although the same kind of evidence from all of those other cultures does exist? That is simply impossible with a civilization as vast, complex, literate and Christian as the Book of Mormon civilization claims to have been. Furthermore, although until 2006, the Church taught that all native Americans, North, Central, and South America, we’re descendants of Lehi and his band, the Church now cannot locate a single Lamanite, thanks to DNA science. As for the D&C and other teachings, it is a bit of a stretch to say they contradict just as it would be for me to claim the contradictions within the Bible itself. But there are also pollutions of scribes and secret combinations that attribute doctrines and revelations to Joseph that he never spoke or wrote. As for the fullness of the gospel being lost from the Bible, that I believe to be an incorrect understanding, but the minds of believers was darkened because of the pride of their hearts. I believe that the protestant movent has brought about much of that change, and the Book of Mormon is a very protestant book. It has added to the changes and cleaning of polluted understanding that is still not perfect, but is drawing closer to perfection. I do not believe any church is true still, nor did Joseph Smith think his church was the only one, especially after 1832. Joseph revealed that it was really about repentance that brought anyone into the only true church - faith, repentance and baptism (full and complete by water, fire, and Spirit). That is the central doctrine of the Book of Mormon. If you believe the book is false, then do you reject its central doctrine? If so, then the spiritual confirmation you received is anything but from the Lord God Almighty. If not, then how is the book really false? You have some explaining to do to make any sense of your claims.

The subjective opinion that no one knew of writings on metal plates at the time of Joseph Smith is a very incorrect conclusion by both defenders and critics. However, I do not criticize Tad for not knowing this, because I think he would most likely admit to not being an 18th and 19th century historian. People in the 19th century were so fascinated with new discoveries of artifacts and these were typically in news papers and then later published in books. In 1820 J.F. Lake Williams published his second volume of a book called "An Historical Account of Inventions and Discoveries" and on pages 405 - 409 it talks all about ancients writing on metal plates including writing on Gold plates. "we have to assert that golden plates of large dimensions, have been discovered in the tombs of the ancient Tartarian princes, with inscriptions upon them." This book is also giving a history lesson about different materials used for writing on which includes Gold Plates. To a young man like Joseph Smith this book would have been something he would definitely gravitate to, and it is definitely going to be talked about during that time.

If you’re going to highlight where the critics are wrong, you better highlight where they are right. Of course critics can and have been wrong. Is the litmus test for truth that a critic cannot be wrong ever? If you’re going to highlight arguments in favor of the BoM, such as metal plates or horses, please highlight your half-truths related to them. Yes, certain cultures had metal plates. But NO ancient American civilization had them. Yes, there were horses in the Americas. But it was a Pleistocene horse that no ancient American civilization had and long extinct before any of the supposed cultures of the BoM. Please discuss where the church has moved the goalposts on various truth claims to fit it’s narrative as evidence proved various claims patently false. The biggest one being DNA. In fact, the critics are more right than they are wrong. So much so that leaders of the church have spoken at conference several times and elsewhere that evidence will never lead to a testimony and that we shouldn’t worry about evidence.

Isn’t it odd, that it would take a “book longer than the Book of Mormon” to explain all the concerns found in the Book of Mormon? What other book could you say that of? At 3:32 when Tad Callister is speaking about the chain of events, that if the book of Mormon is true, then Joseph, it’s a true prophet, and that means the restoration happened, and that means ultimately the church is true. This is something that is definitely talk to us in church growing up but if you step back from moment, it’s not that easy to make those connections For example, the book of Mormon has some great continent from a theological standpoint and also is mired in a lot of errors, corrections things that don’t make sense and so stating that it’s the most correct book could come with some arguments. Nonetheless, let’s assume the book of Mormon were “true”, why would we necessarily make the connection that Joseph was a true profit or that the church is true? I think those are definitely liberal assumptions that could lead to a myriad of problems I’m not sure who quite came up with that line of thinking, but it is fed to us in the church growing up and most of us don’t even think twice about it when in reality, there is the possibility that the book of Mormon could’ve been revealed by God, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the LDS church is gods true church on the Earth But members aren’t given that space to consider that option. It’s an all or nothing type of mindset, which I think is quite limiting, especially when it comes to critical thinking ability for the LDS church members.

File this under the half agree folder as well. I think the Church definitely needs more critical thinking in its discussions and lessons. I never quite feel like discussing any form of logic in Sunday School, which then leads people to discuss elsewhere. Is there a possibility the BoM is “true” but Joseph Smith wasn’t a prophet and the Church is not God’s church? Sure. Likely? Not really. To say the BoM is “true” by nature accepts its origin. It accepts that ancient peoples wrote scripture, that an Angel came to JS, and that it was translated by a skill JS certainly didn’t have in any secular sense. So it would be very strange to say “All those first Angel visitations were from God, but immediately after the BoM was published in 1830, all the other ones about Temples and Celestial Kingdoms and Priesthood aren’t.” There is of course the possibility that everything up to JS’s death was of God and then fell off after, which is where all the sects that branched off the original church come in. But very few critics would take this position. It’s usually “The BoM is fake, JS was a fraud.” So narrowing it down to “It’s either true or false” is somewhat acceptable as a short answer. I usually jokingly announce this in public discussions. I say “nuance mode activate.” Because you can either get the short 1 minute answer or the 1 hour discussion answer.

Nah, silly. The Book of Mormon is grounded in first temple Judaism. Much of that appears odd when compared to the Deuternomist rewriting of Judaism, much in the way that the middle Platonist churchmen of the 4th century and thereafter rewrote early Christianity to fit those philosophical ideas. The term correct book refers to the plainness of the gospel principles contained therein. It does not apply to the many word, grammatical, spelling, and punctuation emendations (that were made after the first printing (just as there are hundreds of thousands of those as we piece the Biblical manuscripts together). No lack of critical thinking among the members of Christ's Church, especially those of us that have come unto Christ and His Kingdom from Hellenized Christianity through examination of scripture and history.

I would suggest that you study in depth the evidence they use to make these claims. Like for example they say that the word “sheum” found in Mosiah 9 : 9 is crossed off and is not anachronistic. The reason is they say that sheum resembles the Akkadian word Se or Se’um for barley and the Jaredites spoke Akkadian and passed that word on to the people of Zeniff. Really? Speculation layered on speculation plus the verse already says barley in it. This is just one example

You do realize there is little in common with masonry in the endowment in terms of content. The pedagogy of masonry is used though. That is a huge difference that the antichrists use to deceive mostly Evangelicals. And yes, we do need to accept all that God has revealed in each dispensation. You do realize that Martin Luther created "imputed righteousness" which is not in the scriptures? I know that saying a sinners prayer and "Jesus, come into my heart. You are my Lord and Savior" and then getting a magical get out of hell free card is very attractive, but not scriptural. I discovered that as I read the scriptures and found the scriptural plan of salvation which led me from Evangelical Christianity to the true Church of Jesus Christ many years ago. You also confuse the atonement with what Jesus Christ asks of us to do and become as a result of His atonement. "It is finished" as the text notes only applies to the act of the atonement. Many Christians read a great deal more into that statement rather than accepting the plain language, but that is most often done in ignorance of the scriptures. You are not alone in that boat.

Isn't the simplest explanation for "why Adam and Eve couldn't have kids in the garden" that tiny humans wouldn't survive without parents with knowledge of good and evil? We are too fragile at birth. And someone without that knowledge would be too oblivious. This is a dark thought, but what if Eve's body was always capable of giving birth, but until she ate of the fruit, she was too oblivious to care for her young. In reference to the section when you talk about baptism being a requirement to get to Heaven, what is an LDS members view on the thief who died on the cross next to Jesus being granted paradise? Surely the thief wasn't baptised prior to this yet still granted eternal life? I'm currently going through a bit of a faith crisis and I've been looking a lot into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but obviously I have a lot of unanswered questions right now before I make a commitment to the faith.

We believe in baptism for the dead. People who weren't baptized on Earth can be baptized by proxy.

When you must spend more time defending this fantasy than worshipping the Holy Trinity we call God, you know you have a problem. Eternal life is a gift you can’t earn via works. Grace alone with a personal relationship with God and no silly temple names and rituals.

Sorry Paul brothers, you can ask me to stop giving suggestions if you want. 😅 Another short video topic I thought of is the reference to "a river of water". Where I live, we have dry river beds. I've only seen them have running water a few times in my long lifetime. However in most places, river beds have flowing water, so why was it necessary to clarify specifically "a river of water"? He could have just said "a river," & everyone would know what he's talking about. 🤔😊
