Something very interesting about the 'Come to me' bit in the very first episode of the series is, if you listen to it again, you can actually hear that Louis' voice is layered with Lestat's. Now, the question is, was that done for dramatic effect? Like, was that Louis narrating in the present at the same time as he was reliving Lestat saying it in the past? Or, is it as Lestat said here - is it that Louis was actually wishing for Lestat to find him, but that he couldn't accept that he would want that, so he imagined it was Lestat calling out for him. Lestat, hearing that, went to him immediately. Either is possible, I suppose, but we don't really ever hear that same layering effect again when hearing vampiric telepathy. It's interesting.
@ms.battle90555 күн бұрын
I doubt if Louis was calling for Lestat which is why during this episode Lestat says "Me a Vampire", Louis was calling for me which I think he was being sarcastic. Some of the things in this episode aren't true as well because Armand was being the puppeteer the whole time. He was controlling Louis's thoughts in season one as to why he was always around and he was controling Louis's thoughts in season 2 to make Louis look bad. Watch in Season 3 we are going to learn how much Armand was controlling. he was putting on a real-life play by giving Louis a script in his mind for him to say

@@ms.battle9055 Unfortunately for you, both Sam and Jacob have confirmed that the come to me moments were mutual... In their opinion, I suppose. They have talked about it in interviews. I think Lestat kind of hesitated because saying that "I, a vampire, was being hunted" is an absolutely ridiculous statement.... And the dramatics of the line is ridiculous and so I think that's why he hesitated a little bit... But there are slivers of truth woven into the dramatics of the play... And both of the actors have confirmed that the mutual come to me was a sliver of truth. Even if Louis at the time disagreed because he was still human and therefore didn't know how LOUDLY he was projecting his longing towards Lestat. But yeah the actors have confirmed that Louis was absolutely mentally blasting the emotional version of come to me to Lestat... At the very very least, in the church scene if not the entire time.
@saia52974 күн бұрын
I think, even in Louis didn't say it outright, he was thinking about Lestat. Louis openly talks about being pissed at him, but admiring him. Wanting him and wanting to be him. He may not have directly called out to him, but Lestat probably could feel him constantly pining for him.

The trajectory of your mood from the beginning of this video to the end is hilarious, but sadly, understandable! This episode had it all - reveals, tension, tragedy, betrayal, dark humour, excellent writing, audience (including us as viewers) participation, perfectly-placed music, dramatic direction, and acting that deserves all the awards! There are so many 'if onlys' involved with the relationships in this show, and examples of actual affection and happiness that are almost buried beneath their sadistic/masochistic actions, that it's no wonder they screw with our heads (as well as our hearts) - but like you, I'm so glad Madeleine chose Claudia, despite the tragedy of their passing. Love this show, loved your reaction to this episode - and now I can't wait for your take on the finale! 🌮👏

Though unsuccessful, we see Lestat's determination here to either save everyone on stage or die along with them. We see that he is constantly trying to quell the audience and offset their focus and rage (the jokes at the beginning of his appearance that aren't on the topic of the trial, the way that he portrays things as more sympathetic and tragic instead of appalling and fueling the crowd's anger). And then, when he can, basically says, "Hey, if you like me and don't want me to die, then you need to spare them too," or "I should be on trial too - this is unjust". He's really doing what he can, trying to work with but also around the coven. (And yes I've seen episode 8 and I know Taco has too by this point, but just in case anyone is watching these reactions along with the pace of the show, I won't talk about that stuff here >.> )

This. I think a lot of people discredit how much Lestat with his words in the play and him going off script and joking around and trying to distract 'the audience mob' shit was him trying to save them. Trying to shift the narrative... the horrible narratives that the show is attempting to paint Louis and Claudia with.... It just unfortunately wasn't very effective in the end but... the attempt absolutely was made!!! He quite literally did not have the physical strength to do so with his actions and so he was attempting to do so with his words as much as he could.

the coven offering Madeleine a chance to join them with the narrative of "she didn't know the great laws and didn't choose to be made a vampire" (she in fact, DID choose to be a vampire to be with Claudia), while condemning Claudia who also did not know the great laws and is the one that actually did not have any choice in becoming a vampire, of the same crime, is peak hypocrisy :)))
@Pooobaihr235 күн бұрын
Claudia killed Antoinette. Madeline wasnt involved in any of that other stuff.. her only "crime" would be being made without the coven leader's knowledge...
@jaginaiaelectrizs63415 күн бұрын
Madeleine chose to be made a vampire, yes, but she didn't actually transform herself into one. It's the actual transformation of someone into a vampire itself that is forbidden when done without coven master permission and oversight. Unfortunately for Claudia, being a child vampire itself is also a crime, and there was no way to make her no longer a child-rather than just the fact that she had been transformed without permission.

@@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 Exactly. It's also pretty much the exact same thing that they probably did with Santiago... They killed his maker but allowed him to join the coven even though he was made against the Maitres permission.... They were just giving Madeline the same choice Santiago had.

Claudias story is always so difficult... It was unfortunately always meant to be a tragedy. Anne Rice tried to write a good ending for Claudia... But she had a significant amount of emotional distress afterwards... Because Claudia is very loosely based off of her own daughter who died at age 5 from leukemia.... Also Anne Rice was abusing alcohol when writing the first book... So yeah, she was just in a really really bad headspace and she had to scrap the good ending and write the tragic death... Where Claudias' fathers were helpless and could do nothing but watch the inevitable as it came to happen just like she and her husband had to watch their first child wither away from cancer. There are a lot of people within this fandom who wish Claudia could have had a happy ending... But unfortunately it was never in the cards for her. Her story is always meant to be a tragedy... But Claudia is a very important piece of the story, as a whole. The lives that she touched... Which is really only Louis and Lestat in current day... Ripples out for decades to come... They NEVER forget about her. She was important. Even if her life was cut so tragically short.
@xtxpxhx4 күн бұрын
i never truly empathized with Claudia until this show, then i went back to re read the book and her story is heartbreaking. yYou can read Anne's despair in it, how she is so magnificent but never meant to be. @rachelz575 күн бұрын
regarding the "come to me" discrepancy, jacob and sam said in an interview that they discussed this when they got the script, and what they landed on is that "come to me" isn't so much as literal words, but a manifestation of longing. While louis was human, lestat was privy to louis' attraction and yearning from the moment they met, and the battle within himself to tamp down those feelings. so they're both right, the come to me was mutual lol
@AnxietyRat5 күн бұрын
This. This is actually an interview detail that I kind of love because it's probably not something that they're ever going to actually explore and explain in the show itself... But it's a really important interesting detail that while Lestat was being kind of like overly dramatic and bullshiting in the play it wasn't necessarily entirely false information... And I mean we do know that the play is true information mixed with dramatic bulshit added by the Paris coven so it's really interesting to kind of pick apart which parts potentially are complete bullshit and the parts that absolutely have some truth to them. Lestat maybe genuinely did think that it absolutely was a mutual come to me situation... He most likely didn't think it was malicious and manipulative like the play was attempting to spin it... But yeah, it has a sliver of truth to it. Clearly, Louis didn't feel the same... Probably because he was still human and didn't know that mind reading was a thing and so he probably wasn't paying attention to how LOUDLY he was projecting his yearning in Lestat's direction. It's so interesting. And I'm SO glad that Sam Reid has talked about it in interviews. I honestly haven't seen any interviews of Jacob talking about it but if they are both saying the same thing about it... that's cool!
@rachelz575 күн бұрын
you're probably right about jacob not speaking directly on it, in my mind it was both of them together but it's been a while since i watched them and all the interviews blur together so i might have mixed them up (the odyssey of recollection etc). i wouldn't even know where to begin to find it to fact check myself 😂

@rachelz57 That is completely valid! I've been there before... But yeah, from what I can remember, it was a solo Sam interview where it was talked about... I know you've already watched the finale so I can say this lol! 1. I don't trust shit that Armand says anymore, so I'm not sure I believe that Lestat just sat there and watched her die 2. In some shots right before, after Louis is brought off stage, you can see Lestat kinda out of it, swaying on his feet, so maybe he wasn't doing well? Or even had the coven controlling him Either way, I believe he would have at least tried to save Claudia if he could have I really think they're going to revisit parts of the trial in s3
@AnxietyRat5 күн бұрын
Yeah in a couple of the wide shots you can see him actively slipping in and out of consciousness when sitting in his chair in addition to him physically swaying on his feet in that one out of focus shot. It's very very subtle but there absolutely are crumbs of details that point towards Lestat NOT being at full power... He appears weakened. Absolutely. Some eagle-eyed fans also pointed out that it really does look like he has some defensive bruising on his hands... And I mean I trust those fans judgment because they said that they were into boxing and so they were intimately familiar with that specific type of bruising... And it had to be placed there purposefully buy the makeup team... So that is definitely another potential clue that points towards the Paris coven not treating him very nicely potentially hitting him up to the point where he had to put his hands up to cover his face/head. So yeah, Lestat is not doing good during the trial is the consensus. But I also absolutely don't fault first time watchers for not catching these tiny details. The majority of people on Twitter who caught these details caught them on a re-watch or multiple re-watches lol I also really really hope that they revisit some of the trial even if it is brief in season 3... Because yeah there is absolutely some juiciness happening in the minute details that I am really hoping will pay off in season 3.... Just like how in this episode we finally got an explanation as for why there was a huge dent in Louis' coffin in episode 6 of season 1... A lot of fans were speculating that it probably happened off screen during their fight but we didn't know exactly what happened but this episode explained exactly what happened... Louis slammed Lestat's face into the coffin lid... So yeah I HOPE we get some good payoff in season 3 in regards to the trial.

I don't want to just outright say it because this KZbinr has very VERY clearly asked for no spoilers. And the show COULD do something completely different. So exactly what happened in the book doesn't necessarily matter in my opinion... I have a feeling they're going to change Lestats motivations for going to Paris. Mainly because they had Louis and Claudia be in Europe for like YEARS... Like almost a decade that's a long enough amount of time for Lestat to be relatively healed, IMO... It didn't take Louis that long to heal from the wounds that he got from Lestat in the show during their fight... it took him like 3 years to be fully healed... That changes the timeline of things a little bit to me... But yeah we're having fun speculating exactly what Lestat might be going though but people who know what happens in the books know exactly what is going on with him and WHY he looks so weak on his feet.... Okay! Now I can freely talk lol. I know youve seen the full season, but Im going to keep my comments about the last episode on that post, but I will freely speak about things on this episode! Lol. Did you notice Lestat leaning in the back... When he stood up to get ready for the sun? Poor thing was out of it! When I first saw this episode that was the main thing that stuck out to me more than anything else in this episode. I think many reactors (not you) have forgotten much of the first season or how the season actually went. Watch the episode of Claudia's changing again (you should also watch episode 5 again for clarity, and listen to the background... Hell, listen every time someone over talks or voices fade.. its information that gets looked over. Its context.).. Louis never gave the details on Claudia's changing. Her own writing did... Loui was sleep and when he finally woke up, it was after Charlie died. He never gave context to how she was turned. Also, here, Lestat tells you that she wrote all this stuff down weeks after it happened, so her memory of what actually happened was muddy. (Again, listen to the background while Claudia narrates... You hear this argument, but in pieces..). Thats why when she was in those new clothes, the rioting had disappeared. The streets were normal. Its like everything just stopped and folks cleaned up and went home... Now the fight..... From the moment the fight happened, I knew something was up. This fight isnt canon... But what is canon is Louis always wanting to put hands on Lestat and Lestat just holding himself back from doing anything. But when Louis said he was going to chop his head off... Pffft.... Im sorry, I would have done exactly what Lestat did. Why? Because he knows Louis would have did it. Thats what he does when he is manic... He just does shit and then cries about it later. Im one of the few that doesnt hold a lot of sympathy for Claudia. Love the character and all that, but what I mean is, when she started talking about Antoinette... Thats when shit got dicey. Louis knew about her... CLAUDIA didnt. Louis had began to grow indifferent about Antoinette (as he should have... She was human at the time and of no actual threat. Louis began to have his own flings with humans when he was with Armand, no different then what Lestat did.). But Claudia had grown a hatred for Lestat and began to make Louis feel the same way. She didnt want to be around him anymore but knew she couldnt live on her own, so she had to get Louis to feel like she did so he would leave with her. So lets make this big issue about Antoinette... Then she wanted her dead... Why? Lol. Why? There was no reason at all for Antoinette to be dead. Anyway this post is long enough lolol I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS! ON JUST THIS ONE EPISODE... Because it holds both seasons! Lol

For me it's obvious that the whole thing is scripted to make Louis and Claudia look worse, and the moments when the scenes are revisited are Lestat going off script to tell his real side of what happened. Lestat was like, "I, a vampire, a powerful predator, was being hunted by a human, do you seriously believe this nonsense?"

In the Ep5 revisit, Lestat's version didn't show Lestat attacking Claudia & throwing her around, but Lestat confirmed that Louis said this to him, meaning this is something Lestat did to HER. It's not about Louis being a saint, it's about Lestat being their Maker with "godlike strength and ancient blood" and having the upper hand in a fight HE started--"you start it, you finish it!" So how is it 45/55, when Lestat is saying "I'm trying to restrain myself, it will end in your death"? How is the fight "even," when he's busy defending his daughter from being choked to death "wrap my hands around your scrawny neck, just like you did our daughter"? IMO, Louis can say whatever nasty things he wants--Lestat still crossed the line--not by dropping Louis from the sky, but from attacking their DAUGHTER. Especially since we see Louis bloody and with Lestat's bite marks all over his face, so it's not like Lestat wasn't attacking him, too. The fight started cuz Lestat choked CLAUDIA. This version just doesn't SHOW it, cuz it WANTS to put more weight on the things Louis did to make him look worse, and handwave/excuse the things Lestat did to THEM. Louis AND Claudia. The Claudia aspect I think is constantly being overlooked.
@gaygent5 күн бұрын
I love the new view of the fight scene because the first time around was from Claudia's perspective and Louis never added on to that scene. I also love the double standards the court has for louis and Claudia's violence and anger as opposed to Lestats which is always validated and never considered monstrous like theirs is. There's also another level of their being black and how they are treated in the court (silenced, the cutting of their tendons, the lynching comparisons). I love this ep so much

I highly doubt Louis ever regretted having Claudia be turned, let alone "for the rest of your life." He said in 1x4 "I loved her unconditionally...I had a daughter," after crying in 1x3 about not having "no sons, no daughters." She was his sole companion for years--6 years in 1x6, and they were closer than ever. And even in 2x1-2x6 it's their coven of 2, until Madeleine is turned. IMO Louis regrets that she felt he chose Lestat over her, and especially how she died, ofc. But I don't think he ever regretted that she was born/turned.

It saddens me when people watch this episode and say that nobody but Madeleine about Claudia, when throughout the episode we see just how much Louis does care about her. From when they were bagged and he was yelling her name and straining for any sound of her to know she was still alive, to the revisit of the fight when we see just how angry he got at Lestat for putting his hands on her, to both of them desperately reaching for each other while Louis is being dragged away. The only moment where he is shown to not actually have cared about her is when they turned her because like Lestat said, he didn’t know this girl, he just needed to assuage his guilt. But from then on, he clearly loved her deeply and tried to protect her. And that’s also why I don’t think the revisit of the fight changes anything tbh. Louis being incandescent with rage at Lestat is completely justified because Lestat *put* *his* *hands* *on* *their* *daughter* - That’s the whole reason Louis fights so hard. He says “I'm gonna take this hand here and wrap it around that scrawny neck of yours, just like you did our daughter” so it’s clear that Lestat doing that to her is the thing that has enraged him so. Lestat got violent first, and like Louis said, “you start it, you finish it”. It was Lestat’s responsibility to end the fight one way or another, preferably by leaving the house so Louis could calm down. But he didn’t do that because he was afraid Louis would leave with Claudia and when Louis’ words made it apparent that he would choose her over Lestat, that’s when Lestat snapped because he “couldn’t force Louis to love” him and so he broke him. I don’t think Louis did anything wrong by defending Claudia. If anything, that revisit just makes it more heartbreaking that Louis also choked Claudia out in the season 1 finale. After seeing how angry he got with Lestat for doing that to Claudia, for him to do it to her too is the ultimate betrayal. He’s lucky she forgave him.

The “come to me” was part of the script. He stops at one point because he knows it’s ridiculous!

I think Lestat trips over it because he thinks it's overly dramatic and stupid yeah, but Sam Reid has literally said in interviews that the 'come to me' WAS actually mutual.... When Sam and Jacob got the script they kind of decided that the phrase 'come to me' is less so the actual words and more so emotions of longing being projected.... So like yeah The dramatics of the moment is a little bit ridiculous which is why I think he hesitates a little bit... but he does genuinely believe that the 'come to me' was Mutual... whereas Louis was human at the time and so he didn't know he was projecting his emotions at Lestat super hard. And that's why Louis absolutely does not think that it was a mutual longing situation... But in the opinion of both of the actors ...Louis is wrong in his assessment of the situation. The play has slivers of truth woven throughout it and that mutual 'come to me' is a sliver of truth.
