I’ve commented this elsewhere too but Louis choosing to spend his life with Armand was probably meant to be a punishment for both Lestat and himself. Which accounts for why he tried so hard to focus on the worst parts of his and Lestat’s relationship during the interview. Every positive thought, memory and feeling towards Claudia’s supposed murderer must’ve felt like a betrayal of her to Louis.
@judyd6576Күн бұрын
Lestat was not strong enough to save both Claudia and Louis. It has been only 7 years since he had been poisoned and had his throat slit. He was recovering but was too weak to withstand the mind power of Armand and the collective power of the coven. They forced him to come back to Paris and take part in the trial. Occasionally during the trial, he fights against their mind control and breaks from the script. If you watch closely, you can see him zone out, sway and almost faint. He could only focus all his strength to save Louis.

Love this reaction! Armand is very much looking for love for himself, his relationship with Louis is quite selfish and is about him getting what he needs. Louis was always so fickle in his emotions though, Armand knew of Louis' feelings for Lestat which is why he eventually chooses the coven and plans to have Louis killed. Because at the end of the day if Louis isn't putting him first then why would be choose him over his family for the past centuries? When Louis took out the coven Armand was left with no one but saw an opportunity in getting to have Louis to himself, hoping no doubt with time that Louis would come to love him more than Lestat. It's really opportunistic thinking more than anything, but is very sad in a way. Louis calls Armand a "child" more than once and he definitely is, he's a child at heart looking for love and attention. But he can also definitely be ruthless, and will try to control any scenario to get what he wants.

So telling that Louis' story is mostly his time with Claudia and Lestat and his time with Armand afterwards is barely a footnote, even though, as Armand says, Louis spent more time with him
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341Күн бұрын
Well, it's because in the books he wasn't really just telling his whole entire life's story, he was telling the story specifically of how he became a vampire and why he personally kinda wished he wasn't a vampire / why he wanted to warn and discourage as many other people as possible away from becoming vampires too! But the tv series takes it all and spins it in a slightly different direction.😊 💖💖 And personally I kind of adore how it does not do this fresh spin on things by saying that Louis was never even in that place to begin with, but by saying that Louis was in that place, but he was in that place a few decades prior and now is just finally reaching/progressing into a whole new and different place entirely.....so, now, it's his story of coming/stepping instead forward into that newer place. ^--^ And it's kinda really beautiful, I think. 🙂💜

Also in regards with Armand. He wanted to chose the love he had with Louis but couldn't trust it to last like how it showed in the previous ep that chose to betray Louis and Claudia to the coven. He chose the coven but with the coven dead he could take that risk as well as opportunity to chose Louis and then cling to him for 77 years. He is a really complex character which Im sure s3 will delve into more. The details with this show is phenomenal I have rewatched 5 times now and you can pick up more. Like the scene where Louis and Armand are talking about what painting to put in middle of two and Louis says 'we should wait for a revelation' only to get that revelation from Daniel in the next episode!!! Armand explained that he put a body from the show in a coffin and then switched that one with Louis's. We see he moved to Louis's coffin to the sewer, poured some blood in, left it open, and then went back. That little bit of blood was enough for Louis to wake up and get away. One small point - Armand wouldn't need to change any memories for Louis about the trial. Louis couldn't really see either of them clearly, so he just assumed Armand saved him (especially since Lestat said nothing) - that's how he would believe it happened. As far as we know, in the show, Armand has only tampered with Louis's memory the single time. I know you're stuck on Claudia dying, but now we know Armand wanted her dead and Lestat...just saving Louis wore him out. The theater had at least a hundred people in it, all hellbent on condemning the trio to death. Lestat definitely could not have saved Claudia AND Louis, doing the mind controlling of that many people twice. Let's not forget that he might not be fully recovered from being drained when Louis cut his throat. Lestat did not come from New Orleans to see Claudia and Louis die. He came expressly to save Louis and had to play the coven's game until just the right moment.

Claudia was my dark child, my love, evil of my evil. Claudia broke my heart”. - The Vampire Lestat. Him saying this in the book absolutely broke my heart 😢

I love your reactions so much! Definitely sticking around now to watch your takes on Severance and other shows. Question: does Louis read as schizoaffective to you? He does to me- it tracks with the family history and the bouts of severe depression accompanied by hallucinations. Rewatching with that in mind was fascinating to me. The portrait of Paul at the end hung up with Claudia’s dress! I love Louis so much. I don’t know that I can forgive Lestat for doing the exact thing we thought Armand did before (using Claudia as a sacrifice to save Louis’ life) but at least he’s clearly been suffering and mourning her this whole time. That last scene with them was just heartbreaking. When you said Armand “has a sickness”…. Yeeeeeah, dude is probably the most messed up character in this damn show. 🤣 I don’t think he’s a planner, I think he just panics and lies like a child when he feels trapped or unsafe. So…. why do you think he turned Daniel after that being his one boundary for 500 years?
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341Күн бұрын
7:34 - ..in Armand's defense, he started losing memories [as far as we know ]involuntarily, as a trauma response in his human days[ even before his maker ever acquired him] ... he only knows just enough to know that if he knew anything else or more it would probably not be anything good; so, from his perspective, his life is better/bearable for him specifically BECAUSE his mind *_doesn't_* hold on to things? Why would he understand holding onto things?? Why would he understand valuing or not wanting to lose his memories or who he is or what he's been through? He doesn't really have a choice in not remembering, himself , and as far as he knows if he did remember things it would simply be even worse and even more torturous and awful and unbearable for himself. Why would he understand why anyone else wouldn't want to make their life better or more bearable if they could? He simply doesn't know anything else, or different, for himself. And I wonder if maybe that most likely is, or could be, his way of making himself okay with not knowing or having anything else....by telling himself that perhaps it's actually a good thing and better this way ,just not even remembering hardly anything. Before a very certain point. ??? I dunno, just something that my head decided to start turning over right then. 😊 🤷🤷♀️🤷🏻♂️ 🤔👀
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341Күн бұрын
23:00 - I think you're right, sadly. And I think that was always kinda true, even before Armand handed them all over to the coven before the trial. As evidenced by scenes like when Louis told the coven they weren't companions, then privately told Armand "I love you" / 'you can call it companions if you want' or whatever, basically just trying to suck up to Armand and make Armand let go of the fact that Louis just said they weren't companions. And with the "shut up and get out, or get face down in the coffin, right now" scene. Which is possibly a part of why he handed them all over to the coven in the first place. But I think maybe some part of Armand actually did hope that he could somehow make Louis actually want him, if he could just find exactly the right way to twist himself or whoever/whatever else around them to prop himself up as if he could be whatever Louis wanted or needed.. to make Louis stay with him. It's all very tragic, and unhealthy. Neither one of them was really with the other for the right reasons, and neither one of them was really being totally and truly or genuinely themself with each other either. (I think.) 😿
@mouse2390Күн бұрын
Yeah, Armand knew that Louis was still hung up on Lestat but also knew how toxic their relationship had been so presented himself as what Louis thought he *should* want--if that makes sense.

13:20 - True, very true. Especially considering that "she was doomed from the start" comes from the books, when she was about 5 yrs old or so[ as well as from the place that book was originally written out of in Anne Rice's life], and completely disregards that in the tv series she is now 14 yrs old instead and in the books there were vampires from like human/physical ages 12 and up without issues. I dunno if you can actually say as confidently that the tv version of her actually WAS quite so absolutely or definitely doomed from the start-if not for the fact that she was turned not really for herself but for other people. Which makes it a slightly different though similar tragedy , I think.

Louis stayed with Armand out of spite for Lestat, to punish himself and Lestat for what they did to Claudia. As Lestat said, loneliness is the scariest thing when you live forever. Armand had his coven, but they were slowly becoming untamed and out of his control. When the opportunity presented itself, he chose to be with Louis. He just wanted something out of this for himself, to not be alone for the rest of eternity. He was hoping he could make it up to Louis, and one day, Louis would forgive and love him. Never being able to experience the profound love that Louis and Lestat shared, and not receiving the kind of love he desired from either of them, was Armand punishment. About Claudia, I think Lestat and Louis have always prioritized their love for each other over all else at the end of the day, so of course, for whatever reason, Lestat's priority was Louis on that day in Paris. It doesn't mean he didn't love Claudia, but his love for her was not enough to save her. He doesn't love anyone more than Louis. Claudia's story was always meant to be a tragic one, and both Louis and Lestat will carry the weight of their loss forever. There are a lot of things that we don't know yet, even for book readers, because the show takes its own creative approach and differs from the books in many aspects. I think this is what gives the show its unique charm. For the last part, I want to say that it was a pleasure to find someone who shares the same thoughts about IWTV as me. I don't watch reactions to things I dislike or haven't watched yet, but I will definitely stay here for you. 🥰❤️

I believe Santiago when he tells Louis it was his plan all along. Armand had killed his maker for less offense than Louis and Claudia yet Armand was giving them a pass and having Armand distracted with Louis gave him the perfect opportunity to stage a coup. He said at the trial that he was now the coven leader and he clearly had the whole coven with him. When Louis declared that he was going to turn Madeline against Armand's veto is when Armand realised he'd never really 'have' Louis--and felt he had to choose the coven. Once that decision was made he had to go along with their plan. He didn't write the play but he directed it because that was always his job and the role the new maitre gave him. I'm not saying that to minimize what Armand did at all, but there's no real reason that that part couldn't be true.

This is something I haven't seen anyone touch on. the questions that Daniel asks in the end, are they for the talamasca? Maybe. Regarding, specially, the question about telepathic communication with Louis after he's been turned into a vampire.... I wonder if they're hinting at the idea that Lestat may be more powerful than a vampire is supposed to be, and could allow for a telepathic connection with his fledglings at that point, even though it's typically impossible? (Hinting to him having already had Akasha's blood, at that point?) In the 70s, Armand telepathically tells Lestat that Louis is injured and, because of that, cannot hear him. ...But he shouldn't be able to hear him regardless, due to the fledgling/maker rule? So?? I wonder.
@SilviayumКүн бұрын
I think Louis could’ve been able to hear Lestat indirectly through Armand’s thoughts and communicate using Armand as a middle line or something. But because he was hurt he wasn’t even able to hear Armand’s thoughts which is why Armand had to relay Lestat’s words to him by mouth.
@mouse2390Күн бұрын
@@Silviayum Yes and Louis was actively rejecting Armand's offer to communicate with Lestat.

I think Daniel's referral back to that is meant to lead the viewers into realizing how far back Louis' alterations of the story go--how truly unreliable his memory is--and to make it impossible for people not to go back and re-watch the whole dang thing to try and catch what else might have been going on.

Hey there, love your reviews and point of view. My theory is that Armand was never really in love with Louie, he liked him, but his true motivation was to spite Lestat for leaving him. What Louise did in Magnus's lair but to the tenth power. We have to remember that 77 years is like a couple of months to him, and he is patient. Plus, the older you are the further away you become from your humanity. Look how he reached to Daniel when he thought Louie liked him more, he tortured him and then turned him, something he'd never done before. He knew that Louie was the love of Lestat's life what better way to get back at him. Why would you call someone's ex just to say, "yeah they almost died, nah I won't tell you where he is or that you love him." He was not in the mood to do Louie any favors. Also, he was tired of that coven anyway, just like the previous one. But he wants to appear good, so he had Lestat destroy the first one and Louie the second. After 500 years {or 700 and something according to my math and his timeline) the only thing that wouldn't be boring is playing with people.

Now, I can rock with this theory because Armand was obsessed with Lestat in the books. He was so upset that Lestat came to Paris just to get a sip of his blood to jumpstart his healing after the Claudia attack and not to be his companion finally. Armand liked Louis, found him beautiful, but Lestat was who he wanted to come crawling to him and he was motivated by spite. He refers to Lestat as "mine".

Thank you, I really enjoyed your reactions so far 😊 It doesn't have to be the end for IwtV yet, amc+ has the trailer for S3 on their KZbin page! Maybe you and FrankFreezy could react to it together? Or maybe to some of the cast's interviews they did for the last ComicCon? Both of you have different perspectives and opinions, it could be fun to see you bounce stuff off each other

13:26 - All valid questions! He got his dude back because of Louis' self-loathing and/or dead-inside numbness, maybe? 😅🤔😅🤷🤷♀️🤷🏻♂️🙃👀 I dunno! Lolll 😅 SMH. 😿 💔 Like, maybe some part of Louis basically just felt like he'd made this bed so he was just gonna lie in it, exactly like he'd previously told Claudia to do . before. Although, with Armand, [like you've said before] you're also very often left wondering exactly how much you can trust was/wasn't even real or how much was/wasn't him messing somehow with other people's minds!! Because, you know that he _CAN_ do that, so you really never ever know for sure[ especially from any POV outside of his own head] when he for sure has or hasn't actually done so or what. 🙃😐🫣😶 😅 👀 Sometimes, I question why I like him so much. Lolll idekk It depends a lot on just how deliberately mastermind-y you suppose Armand actually is or might have been or not, too , honestly. And the tv series hasn't completely told us yet, for absolutely sure or certain, either way-it's left a lot of things pretty ambiguous, so far, where there are possibilities that any number of different things could maybe be spun any number of different ways. (Even still, after S2 finale's end.) And I love it. 😊 💖💖

Regarding helping Claudia u.u I don't think Lestat was powerful enough to. According to some folks, you can see him swaying in the background looking very out of it when they were going to pull the curtain and reveal the sun during the execution. I think mind-controlling all of those people was just too much for him. I think Armand could have done it, if it were him. But Lestat is still some ways behind him, in terms of strength, and he had already been weakened from being poisoned around a decade before.
@mouse2390Күн бұрын
This--and he had the element of surprise. If he had used that trick to save Claudia it would have alerted the whole coven--he wouldn't have gotten away with it twice even if he was stronger. I think at first Lestat thought that he would be okay if Claudia died--until she did. Either way he was going to save Louis no matter what.

Yeah, Louis stayed with Armand to spite Lestat, which makes Armand look really pathetic lmao
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 сағат бұрын
(Except we should remember maybe that it's not completely impossible that Armand could have been letting Louis stay with him for much the same reason, out of spite toward Lestat, himself too. 100% = MESS = ALL AROUND!! Lol)
@Phoenixrisen2001Күн бұрын
Armand was strong enough to save everyone where as though saving louie took everything out of Lestat . Remember Armand not only stopped time at the restaurant twice he aslo put all the coven to sleep while stoping time without seeming worn out or bleeding like Lestat hes older. They both have the blood of Akasha so louis couldnt kill Armand either.
@ErieMaxwellКүн бұрын
I get where you're coming from in a general sense, but Armand definitely doesn't have the blood of Akasha in the way Lestat is alluding to considering the thing he said a little earlier this season
@mouse2390Күн бұрын
Armand was maybe strong enough to do it vampire-wise but not mentally/emotionally. He really can't handle chaos or direct conflict and won't do anything without some kind of safety net. Likely in this case he would have lost Louis back to Lestat and also lost his coven in the process, leaving him with nothing and no-one.
@murfeel117315 сағат бұрын
Armand never drank from Akasha; he never even knew she existed until Lestat published TVL in the 1980s. Marius had Akasha's blood, but he burned up too.
@murfeel117315 сағат бұрын
But I totally agree that he was more than strong enough to help. He chose not to. Eff Armand.
@JovianEmpress17 минут бұрын
Excellent point. Even I forget that Armand was made by Marius who fed from both Akasha and Enkil regularly and Armand is 500 years old and never made a fledgling, a process that weakens a vamp. Armand is a menace.

Are you going to watch Queen of the damned? The movie isn't book accurate but I think that's what they're covering in the next season. Also you would learn who Akasha is.
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341Күн бұрын
It isn't completely book accurate, but it is enough book accurate about enough things that if he wants to experience whatever the tv series does next for the next two to four seasons completely blind like he did with the first two seasons ....then he probably shouldn't watch it, yet.

Armand has a very clear pattern of relationships. He realizes that they're at a breaking point for everyone involved, but he can't find the strength to let go of his control over people, he much rather let an external force come in and do the dirty job for him. In the 1800s he saw Lestat breaking the coven and didn't do much to stop, in the 1900s it was Louis, now in the 2000s it was Daniel who broke his "coven" and he watched it in slow motion not doing everything he could to stop it. This interview might have been for Louis' recollection of the events of his life, but it was also what Armand unconsciously new he needed to leave a broken marriage
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 сағат бұрын
I think maybe Armand is afraid of being alone, even more afraid of being alone than Lestat is. I don't know if Armand has ever truly been alone in his entire existence, except in the sense of still being completely lonely even while surrounded by a crowd of others. I don't know if it's more the control that he has trouble letting go of, or if it's more just that he is too afraid to let go of whatever is most familiar to him no matter how good or bad it might be because at least it is something that he knows and something that he actually has to some teensy degree or another at all, rather than possibly being left with literally nothing or no one altogether let alone that he even knows a little bit or who knows him. And, somehow, that just makes it even sadder and more unfortunate to me.
