Got me all nostalgic. Metal in the 2000s was such a great era in hindsight. Bands were still exploring/mixing new sounds but they still had melody, even catchy parts. Now a lot of new metal just feels like a mix of modern pop and techno elements with sputtery djent riffs--or it's aping some old subgenre for all it's worth for the umpteenth time. The 2000s might represent the last really great decade for the genre as a whole which is still a lot more longevity than most genres get.

WOW! Super cool! :O . . . HUGE Nevermore fan, when they played in LA for their "Dead Heart in a Dead World Tour", they had Opeth open for them for the Blackwater Park album, and I believe that was the 1st time for Opeth in the states. Akerfeldt was not the confidant stand-up comedian on stage as he is now, he was a bit shocked that they were being so well received - he would occasionally come up to the mic, and timidly say; "thank you . . . thank you very much" :D. Nice to see mutual admiration :). Nevermore would ALWAYS put on a tight energetic show . . . Rest in peace Warrel :'(.
