Every time I thought I've seen the worst that a via ferrata can bring, your video proves me wrong. Those bridges are INSANE!! I'd be going sideways
@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
Hahaha I know! It's so funny because a lot of people don't mind the bridges and are scared of the 3000 foot drops in places like Daubenhorn, but for both of us those man-made tightropes are the scariest! It's because they're so wobbly, so they just feel super sketchy when you're on them. But to be fair, they're also really fun! ❤️

@kimgreer82977 ай бұрын
What a neat climb atmosphere! I’ll add it to my VF Bucket List! TIP: You can just turn and go sideways on the tightrope section… super simple bc your feet aren’t parallel to the line (it makes you facing the upper wire and also looking at the rock face). You guys definitely did it the hard way. When you do a sideways walk across it- it’s quicker and easier. I love to hook off with my shorty and free hang on the bridges! Nothing better than a fun Via Ferrata!!!
@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
Totally agree, Kim -- VFs are the best!!! Wait, but given that the wobble is from side to side wouldn't turning sideways make it worse? Like wouldn't you just end up going sort of face-first into the hand-level cable? Anyway, we do highly recommend this VF -- if you catch it on a cloudless day the views will absolutely floor you! ❤️

Adam & Elise, don’t you know Europeans have different classifications for sunny weather events? There’s sunny with snow, sunny with rain and sunny with all the above. But sunny, as most of us in So. Cal. would understand, doesn’t really exits in Europe. Perhaps on a typical sunny day Vis Ferrata Des Evettes would be considered a moderate climb however, add poor visibility & wet conditions to the mix and you have a high adrenaline activity. Climbing on wet rock & steel cables is dangerous all the way around. Not only are the rocks & cables extremely slippery but the minimal, fall prevention equipment can respond differently to inclement weather. It’s tricky and requires special finesse. Yet, you guys rose to the occasion once again (mostly safe) and entertained us along the way. Great work!

Anna that sounds amazing -- what a cool way to design a tree park! Yes you are right about needing a strong upper body if you slip on these things, especially with the dynamic tethers that we wear because they would stretch and you'd have to do a basically a full pull-up to get your feet back on the cable. Stoked that you like the VFs! It's probably our favorite type of single-day adventure -- just so much fun and exhilaration without excessive risk! Totally agree about helmet cams. We of course tried it at one point, but quickly figured out that we are both way too perfectionistic about our shots to do anything other than hand-held (and perhaps drone at some point). The only time we might want to try a helmet cam again is for a rollicking POV glissade for something like that -- other than than, the shots just don't measure up. ❤️

@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
Haha I know! Yes the good news is that we're clipped in with our via ferrata tethers, so if we had slipped we would have been perfectly fine. But for some reason it feels different on those bridges because the fear in the back of my mind is always what if the whole bridge collapses! It's not logical, but somehow those bridges just feel scary. BTW we really loved the Austrian Alps -- you might want to check out the Dachstein Glacier area if you haven't yet. Oh this is way cool! Thanks for saving this one for us from last year! Question: Are you wearing normal hiking shoes or do you wear approach shoes or ? when doing a via ferrata like this?
@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
That's a great question Dan, and for us the answer is definitely approach shoes. Any time we have to do vertical faces we go with approach shoes, because over the years we've found that it gives us much better traction. Of course, that can backfire if it gets super cloudy and wet and slippery, which is what happened to Adam on this one. But we go with the best information we have at the time, and it was supposed to be a sunny dry day so we wore the approach shoes without any hesitation. ❤️

Glad you enjoyed it, Gilbert! Chamonix is one of the prettiest places on earth to hike and climb! ❤️

Hmmm, my rest and recover day usually doesn't include a death-defying rope walk

Haha ya the irony was that on a supposed rest day I ended up getting my worst injury of the whole trip! Still, totally worth it. --A

@@LiveHardxLoveHard that was a gnarly looking gash but Elise came prepared with the neosporin. Shin bone cuts are very painful!

Clouds are a good thing - you can not see the depths below :) i hoped it will clear up only on top/finish

Haha omg the wobbly cables felt super dicey! I'm sure they're actually safe, but for some reason they don't feel nearly as safe as good solid rock! ❤️

Haha I have chalk all over my fingers even as I type this! Our climbing gym has an awesome workspace and I brought my computer in today. Getting in some boulders and handling emails -- life is good! ❤️

Not trying that cable bridge. Nope.
@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
Haha we don't blame you. Those wobbly cables are way scarier for us than even looking down 3000 or 4000 feet when we're holding onto to solid rock! ❤️

Are you serious? Your behavior is dangerous and you are setting a bad example. A shame!
@LiveHardxLoveHard2 ай бұрын
Karl we honestly have no idea what you are talking about. We were extremely safe on this one, and clipped into the cable everywhere there was any chance of even a short fall.

Shame about the clouds, what a beautiful place.
@LiveHardxLoveHard7 ай бұрын
Thanks, ya we were pretty bummed about the cloud because we really wanted to show you the views across to the Mont Blanc Massif! The good news is we did get some of those views on another hike on that same trip when we did a hike up to and around Lac Blanc and the Balcon Sud, so at least you guys can see what we missed that day in the cloud. ❤️

To make the first cable bridge A LOT easier you turn your 90 degrees and face the upper cable so you can keep contact with both hands and feet at all times. Not that your way is wrong, just not as safe as moving sideways on it. Cheers!!
