There is something slightly eerie about this opening. The darkness. The music. The emphasis on food. As a child, I liked this movie, but felt slightly spooked by this.

You nailed it. I was definitely creeped out by this intro as a child, but really only the very end of it. I honestly was kind of creeped out by pigs when I was a child, so that picture of Babe with his eyes closed really disturbed me as a toddler, and the fact that the music got a bit more upbeat by then, the camera was moving very slowly making things stay on screen for a bit and especially the sudden zoom in all added up to me feeling very uncomfortable very fast in my early years. I still remember feeling dread on rewatches even though nothing else about the movie disturbed me.
