I love watching these. They always put a smile on my dial. Whenever I ask people why they have opted for an “upgraded” package for better suspension (like the SP) the answer is always because it handles better. Which then leads me to the next question. So, have you set up (or had the suspension set up) for you as a rider to fit within your requirements? I’m being conservative when I say that 9 out of 10 just leave it in the stock factory settings. Why? Because they’ve spent more money for a better bike. This might be true but you’re wasting money if you don’t take the time to set it up for yourself. For 30 years, I’ve been adjusting settings (one or two clicks) on others bikes and they always say “it now does what I want, feels like a completely different bike” etc... Keep up the great work gents as more people need to see this type of content. 👍😎🇦🇺

Had the suspension check on my 21 SP. Turns out the front springs are quite soft and rear shock spring stiff, probably not in the same category weightclass. With my 64 kg w/o gear we managed 40 f/sag and 32 r/sag. To get the desired 35 even I need to re-spring with stiffer springs front and softer rear. The shop owner was a bit surprised as he assumed the springs would be too stiff for my weight. For me it's not really an issue, I was told I could notice more understeer with harder riding on track for example. For now I'm not doing any track riding but occasionally spirited rides on the rode - but it's fine for now. Was quoted around €600 to re-spring.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you are enjoying the content. High and low speed work very well and that is a huge benefit for street use. Rebound control is good and the shock is a huge upgrade over the base version. Note that the SP base settings are very soft indeed for aggressive street use.

Does it matter where your feet are just sitting there? Isn’t ground clearance/lean angle what is important and therefore one just deals with the height off the ground and feet placement?
@catalystreactionsbw2 жыл бұрын
Feet placement is critical and ankle aligned to hip joint keeps the stress off your knees. The distance between ankle and hip is also critical so you should be able to get your hand to the back of your knee.

Hi Dave I have the 2021 base model version and it only gets sag on the lowest preload setting, has only rebound on the rear
@catalystreactionsbw3 жыл бұрын
Okay, leave that setting and ride to set rebound damping. Next, assess travel used on the shock shaft with a tiny amount of grease. If you use 100%, go up 2 notches and ride. If 3-4mm from the rubber bumper, the preload setting is correct. Once you have this setting confirmed, reset rebound.

hey, just one quick question. I've ridden a 01 gsxf 600 for 2 years and went on to an 06 er6n. very satisfied with gsxf handling, but I've got a feeling there's no weight on the front tyre with the er6n, i've had that feeling with an sv650s also. feels like the front wheel could fly off at the first bump when going hard into a corner. Never had that feeling with the gsxf Is this a geometry thing roadsters share ? is it immuable / can I make this go away ? The feeling makes me feel very unconfident, i've found no answer on the internet. At first I thought rear sets would sort the thing out but didn't. I'm thinking handlebars but I really have no clue.
@catalystreactionsbw3 жыл бұрын
How old is the fork oil? Do you have different tyres than the bike came with off the showroom floor? Do you different geometry? Have you reviewed tyre wear to see if rebound is too fast or too slow?
@Thomas-yv5yw3 жыл бұрын
@@catalystreactionsbw I guess fork oil is as old as the bike but so is the gsxf, gonna look into that anyway stock tyres are dunlop sportmax roadsmart 1st version, currently running pirelli rosso 3 (can't find data for circumference) geometry is stock can't analyse tyre wear yet, gonna look into that. a priori I'd say wear is pretty smooth there's no particular pattern there's no static sag in the shock, even on lowest setting btw

I have just picked up a brand new MT09SP 2021 and have no static sag at all (rear), front has about 10mm,, I know its all new, but it appears this is what a lot of SP owners are finding, I put everything on as soft as possible and still no rear sag.... Put it back to just on the soft side of factory and at least my spine no longer gets smashed, I'm going to put a 1000 or so KMs on it and then off to my local (NZ) suspension guy .... anyone else found their SP super hard in the rear ??
@catalystreactionsbw3 жыл бұрын
Static sag in the rear is a function of preload. As you have a remote adjuster, the shock would need to be removed, spring removed and remote preload adjuster relocated (if there are threads available) to put the remote adjuster at the end of the threads. Shock would be reinstalled and static sag assessed. This should be done immediately as suspension does not break in like an engine.
@cliffbarrimore3 жыл бұрын
@@catalystreactionsbw right, there are threads remaining, it's set on lowest on remote adjuster, I'll have a look and see if it can be done on the bike, looked like a dowel pin stops it from turning from memory
@catalystreactionsbw3 жыл бұрын
@@cliffbarrimore Yes, there is a retaining dowel pin that locks the hydraulic preload adjuster in place. Hence the shock being removed, spring removed and preload spacers adjusted.
