Great initiative! I hope this encourage folks who are waiting for 2.8 (which will probably take another 3 months to be release in beta) to learn 2.79 now instead of waiting. The concepts for using Blender will remain the same, some new functionalities and keys we all will have to learn, but something that can be done in a couple of hours tops, but in the mean time you're building actual knowledge of 3D modeling.

I think as far as mesh modelling things will stay very similar, I'll try to keep pies as similar as possible for 2.8 also, replacing depreciated tools with their equivalents.

I read on the code quest blog post that they'll change the Python API and at some point will even block add ons to discourage devs to port stuff to 2.8 before the new API is ready. The good news is that the beta will be release in August 12th and RC1 in October.

Many thanks for another vision of how to work in blender :) It's awesome I don't know why you haven't mention it, that you can shrink and grow selection with holding ctrl+shift and scrolling mousewheel. Also with 2 polys selected shift+mousewheel is grow/shrink loop Also, there is a little problem with loop slide - it's binded to double spacebar which does different command (transform on Y axis), so I rebinded it to Shift S

MAC user question: Did anyone get a problem with saving User Preferences once you moved over the HeavyPoly Config? Saving tries to default to a read-only /private/ folder which just seems wrong. Much thanks to anyone able to help. Also Vaughan: Thanks so much for this! Looking forward to learning and adding 3D to my design workflow. I really appreciate and enjoy your teaching.

Hi! I discovered your UI was available and I wanted to give it a try. However, I had boxcutter and hardops add-ons (not that I did much yet on Blender, but I got them seeing how intuitively they worked for cuting things more in the way of programs like 3dcoat, etc), and now I don't see the why of activate them. Is it possible to still using them with your UI? Thanks beforehand, and thanks for teaching Blender.

I just downloaded and opened the folder for the Blender scripts, but find that the installer seems to be only for Mac computers. Do you have a version for us Windows (7) users? Hope so! Thanks. BTW, have you approached the Blender Institute with your modified setup?

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your donation! Make sure you download the Windows version of Blender here: builder.blender.org/download/ The scripts will work/install the same on Mac, Windows and Linux I have approached them on the developers site here: devtalk.blender.org/t/blender-2-8-user-interface-design/505/21 but haven't gotten any feedback on it yet

Is there any way I can symmetrize mesh based on the pivot instead of the origin of an object using shift-x pie? And thanks a lot for your config, it's really amazing
@Heavypoly
@Heavypoly 6 жыл бұрын
You could use regular mirror with last selective transform orientation. I usually just change the center of the object with ctrl shift RMB then use shift x to mirror.

hey man. I just downloaded your config today because it seems very useful but it has some downsides, because it brokes my blender quite a lot. I also cant install any addons for some reason. Also selection by holding left mouse button deselects the faces instead of adding them. Do you know why this happening?

I have a little problem with the configs you use and share. Basically you are teaching a "modified" Blender. I understand that your blender is better then default Blender but I feel like if I'm learning another application! I have your "nes controller for blender" tutorial. It was fun and I modeled the nes controller. Then I reinstalled blender (because I wasn't able to remove your configs and reset Blender) and I discovered that without your configs I cannot use Blender fast and easy. Basically I have to start again with the real Blender. You are great...but...I think you should teach the "Real Blender" not your super-configured one. I know that it's slower but people should know that they are learning an heavy confugred software and not the real deal. That's just my opinion I know. Just a suggestion for your future videotutorials.
@Heavypoly
@Heavypoly 6 жыл бұрын
Fair point, although I try to make it clear that we're using a modified configuration in the videos. The reason I don't teach default Blender is because I don't work that way myself. I believe there's alot of potential for Blender to be faster for modelling so I tweaked the UI, use it for professional work and teach it this way. I can refund the NES if it's not useful for you!
@RobotJeeg
@RobotJeeg 6 жыл бұрын
The nes tutorial was a very good tutorial! I'm happy that I did it. But after that tutorial I was totally lost! Because the other tutorials online were totally different. Basically I had to start again almost from zero. What if you explain in a video the differences between your Blender and the basic one? So your clients will not be lost if one day they will use basic Blender. I'm still confused for example about which shortcuts in you tutorial were "custom" and which one were "default". Just an idea. Bye!

If you need a standard version of the blender, you can use it from other authors. The Internet is full of different courses (for example, from Andrew Price), but the course from Heavypoly is unique to his approach and his custom settings. Do not need to teach the master how to become an apprentice.
@RobotJeeg
@RobotJeeg 6 жыл бұрын
No. I'm not talking about the artist. I'm not talking about the master. I was talking to the "teacher". When he does a videotutorial he is a teacher. I was saying that as a teacher he should explains to his customers that his tutorials are about a "special" version of Blender and not the basic application. It's just a question of transparency towards his customers. Luckily now there are also free tutorials like this one and so a customers will know that he will study a custom Blender and not the basic one.
@pavel__k6364

You should understand this when you put custom settings from Havypoly. It is obvious that it will not be to default values program.

*This is bad.* I mean you making people to use your config to teach blender and you forgetting about tons of other tutorials that shows how to do some things with standard keyboard/mouse layout. Basically you made changes to blender that you find easy to use, but It doesn't mean for others It will be easy to. When you new to any application, it actually doesn't matter which keyboard shortcuts you have to memorize, if you didn't use similar apps before, of course. *Keyboard layout is a personal thing you know. It's like making left-handed people write with right hand.* There are some good tips in your video, but when it ends, someone would like to know more tips and he's gonna suffer from "why doesn't this work? I did everything just like you said!". That's why I don't like blendersensei format. *If you new to blender, study standard layout and only after that try to change it if you feel necessity.* The only thing that bothered me for months is that "stupid" right-click selection method. I tried to change it to left click in preferences, but it didn't work well in the timeline, so I changed it back to "normal". Blender 2.8 is comming. Devs have plans on "fixing" standard layout making it more tolerant to industry standard software users, so get ready. Soon more people will be in the same boat. Peace and Happy Blending!
