Dude, your videos take three times as long for me to view than any other youtube creator. First I see a band I've never heard of, have to go look them up and listen to the record you showed, check discogs and spit out my beer at the prices, rinse wash repeat. Thanks for expanding my musical horizons man!

Same. I've usually added five bands to my "need to check out" note in the Notes app, favourited a bunch of albums on Spotify, and bought three records off Discogs before the end of a Noble Records video.

Thanks for mentioning the Bee Gees. Their first LP (standing in mushroom field) was pretty trippy, too. Hey, they weren't always about "Stayin' Alive"

Yeah, the Bee Gees were really good at adapting to the times to maintain relevance. They were ultimate "Profession Musicians," able to excel in multiple genres.

I agree with you. I never knew the Bee Gees were a 60's group that did Psychedelic, Baroque Pop music. I used to have the box set that had their first 3 albums that I had to sell for personal reasons but would like to rebuy. I got it at f.y.e. for like 20 bucks or so. It was all in digipack form. It had the albums in mono and stereo. And some outtakes and stuff. It came out in the 2000's but I got it around like 2013. I had a compilation CD of their hits back in the early 2000's. That's when I listened to their early hits. I just love the Bee Gees.

Great video, I have 95% of these. I've been collecting vinyl since the early 60s (and before)(I'm 72). Huge psych nerd and just discovered your channel. This is a great list man! Especially for folks new to the world of psychedelic music. I've heard of most of these records but I've probably only listened to about half, but this video definitely gave me the itch to dive back in! One of my favorite psych albums that you don't hear mentioned enough is Smiley Smile by the Beach Boys (1967). Definitely in the "psychedelic pop" region more than rock but it is thoroughly trippy and the melodies are beautiful (it's the Beach Boys of course!). Another favorite lesser known gem for is the the self-titled debut by Os Mutantes (1967). Those guys were a band in Brazil that were hugely inspired by all the psych stuff coming from the US and UK and so they did their own album, and it's nuts. Some very pretty pop moments, rock moments, Latin rhythms, and some good psychedelic weirdness as well (those guys definitely did drugs lol). They did a couple good ones after that too but the first one is my favorite. I'm definitely subscribing dude, love to see fellow psych heads sharing some good music.

I spent most of my teens looking for *that* kind of music, i didn't know what i was looking for but i found stuff like the white stripes and the strokes and all those bands and kinda quit searching. later in my late teens i started my hunt again for *that* sound, and, lo and behold i found the world of garage psych. such incredible music and exactly what i spent most of my early teens searching for. about two years ago, now in my mid twenties, i finally started to get the paychecks that allowed me to start collecting vinyl, wish i had found this then, but even now i'm happy i found this vid. so many rad bands and albums i hadn't heard before. great stuff, instantly clicked the subscribe button after finishing watching.

Have to agree on most of what you were showing, tons of great killer psych. There are so many levels it's good to kinda break down some staples and what they are known for. Definitely been trying to add as many of the cheaper records I can before going into more expensive territory. Hope you keep the concept going.

Great video, very informative. Having been a teenager in the late 60s, I was really glad to see a lot of those albums. And yes, the “Crazy World of Arthur Brown” is crazy. Not something you’d put on the turntable while watching a romantic sunset with a sundowner cocktail in your hand, but a great choice nonetheless.

Dillion, that was a fascinating video. I have a lot of the music you showed but never thought of it as psych. It does make sense that a lot of the garage rock bands would be lumped into the group. Very cool you found an original Nuggets. I bought the CD and then the box set which I have used as a guide to buy a lot of music. Rhino then released Children of Nuggets which was more garage and psych from the 80s. Real interesting stuff. Cactus was interesting to see in this group. I would agree that the price on a lot of this psych is a little crazy and the music can really suck. I just got a couple books that deal with all of this type of music that was made from 65-75 which is quite fascinating. Great content, thanks for doing this. Also I feel much better that your chair is back, huge thank you lol. Steve

This was an excellent intro to good, affordable psych. You're right that not all psych is great. A lot of albums have one or two great tracks and a fair bit of average material and can still cost mega bucks. Sometimes, only the cover is psychedelic! Anyway, a great, very informative video which should prove helpful to a lot of people. Cheers. Alan

This is a great video. It's so good to hear someone say it's all right to say you've never heard something before and that you don't have to spend a fortune. My first psych record was the single of Sunshine Superman by Donovan for 50p when I was 16 and I still think it's hard to touch. Why do you miss out singles? If you ever fall into the garage web singles are the only way out. Great to hear support for Fever Tree Ambit Dukes Eric Button and Arthur Brown. Hard to name anything when you have Soft Machine's best album looking over your shoulder. I used to write for a psych fanzine in the nineties which once wrote "If you don't prefer Satanic Majesties to Sergeant Pepper we're not really sure why you're reading this."

Features drummer Carmine Appice (from Vanilla Fudge) and guitarist Jim McCarty (from Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels - and not to be confused with drummer of the same name from the Yardbirds). Yeah, I'd highly recommend the album you seen here (which was Cactus's second album) and their first one. Excellent guitar-driven blues rock. Almost like good theme music for road trips in the dry, arid desert regions of Arizona.

You maybe can mention the year that each album came out as you describe them. I know all the years, and it was always real important to me. So maybe the kids might like to know. That's real important. And If you know where the band is from maybe mention it. That's not AS important though. It's cool to do that if you can. Otherwise, killer video, and choices. I can't think of much you left out except from Texas in the 60's, These 2 bands and albums... 'The Red Crayola' 'Parable of Arable Land', and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbon's first band "The Moving Sidewalks' the album called 'Flash' .... 2 mindblowers like '13th floor Elevators'. I'd have to think that Psych Rock can be one of the more expensive genre's to collect since there's so much rare stuff. But I'm ok with starting slow and picking up reissues and of course sampling before buying. Although I just broke that rule when I came across the self titled Beast album from 1969. It was reasonable and looked interesting. Luckily I like it. Are you familiar with that one? I never see it in the VC. Good stuff Dillon. Have a great week! -Bill

I like how the name is BEAST! but the music is far from beastly. It's a light fun psychedelic jazz rock pop goodness. Rare find in the wild.

More of a Blues Rock but on the cusp....The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation-Doctor Dunbar's Prescription. Lucky to have a mono og press. When I'm stuck with a record to spin I'll usually throw it on and work on a project.

Hi Dillon. Great video as usual. Was surprised to see Cactus and Frijid Pink and some others in your pickup as I would classify more into blues rock or 70s hardrock. It is always difficult for me to classify and as you comment at the end does not care as long Music is great. I own many of them. Have reissue of Leaf Hound and Power of Zeus you show on the shelves and would love to get July, Soft Machine and Dragonfly. Was wondering if Dragonfly is an original as it is really rare?

Thanks Dillon for turning me on to Cactus. Just what the doctor ordered. I enjoy guitar riffs. You are the first channel I subbed and glad I did. Would you identify Jeff Beck, Tommy Bolin or Smashing Pumpkins as Psych?

Noble Records, I'm looking for other bands that sounded like SAC. Do you know any other bands that have keyboards and fuzz guitar like Strawberry alarm clock and Ultimate spinach?
