Something I realized while watching is that this is actually a great way to learn how chords are built. You could do the same thing with chords. Once you do these exercises to learn the fretboard by string, you can call out the notes as you lay down your fingers for chords. Once you have both down, you can use this to create different inversions

I've gone through so many videos on improvisation. After watching this one I see things in a simpler way now though they are pretty harder on acoustic. You have a very good sytematical approach to guitar as a whole. Thanks very much Helen. I'm definitelty going to recommend your channel to my friendds who want to learn guitar. THanks again 🙏
@tuttyusbuttyus3 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY what I've been looking for. I'm going through your beginner series as well to help me slow down, tighten up some basics, and unlearn some not-so-good habits. I've been "playing" off and on for almost 2 decades, but have never really been able to get past beginner. I know most of the chord shapes and can switch fairly well between most of them. Your beginner video on switching between D & G for example was HUGE for me, because it helped me learn that I can sometimes cheat or graduate into the next chord instead of always removing all of my fingers then quickly placing them in the shape of the next chord. I've realized that learning the fretboard is, as you said, the thing that will take me to that next level of playing. This video is so helpful and exactly what I've been looking for to get there. THANK YOU for helping me get closer to realizing my dream of playing live one day.

Still practicing. I like the step by step approach here; building on simple concepts. I started with one finger as recommended here and now I am a bit more comfortable with all 4 fingers. Now to master the part of the lesson playing the scales across the fretboard (from 8:12) and then finding notes (from 11:58). Thanks again Helen.
