Love it. Fabulous. Both so far. One criticism: Stop panicking over mistakes. That's where we learn. You know how to recognize and fix them when they come up. We don't. Celebrate the mistake as a training tool! "Oh I was hoping that would happen. Sometimes the bone is turned (or whatever the error). This is how you recognize it. And here's how to fix it." The adlib fix is the most valuable part of the training.
@Joeherman2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Brian, that is good advice. It is true that errors are the rungs on the ladders of success and are an opportunity to learn. I'll keep that in mind as we go on. That is one of the differences of livestreaming as opposed to pre-recording a tutorial and editing the mistakes out. A benefit of doing it live as you point out. Cheers! - Joe.

Here's some more hints to speed up your workflow: - When you want to select an object with all its children you can just middle-click the object. - To change the brush size of the Weight Tool you can hold the middle mouse button and drag left or right. Dragging up or down will change the strength. - When using the Weight Tool you can hold Shift while painting to smooth the weights which is incredibly helpful when weighting things like elbows or knees. - When working with larger models you'll never want to manually weight everything from the beginning since there's a high chance you'll miss something. Rather use the Bind command to have some initial weighting, and work your way through the model to fix all incorrect weights. Make sure to always have Auto Normalize enabled in your tools. - Make sure to always freeze the transformation on your joints once they're completely setup. If you need to readjust this, first disable the skin deformer, then adjust your joints and freeze them, then go to the weight tag and click "Set Bind Pose", then re-enable the skin deformer. By following this he could've fixed his issue at 2:04:20. This happens more often than you'd think so you'll definitely want to memorize this one. He mentioned some of this but since it's hidden somewhere deep in this video I felt like listing it here. I wish he would've shown anything about how to go about adjusting weights for things like elbows since you'll want to do this in the deformed state.

Really enjoying these as a refresher - would love to see a series that does a deep, deep dive into the entire animation feature set of C4D. Would love to develop a solid workflow for dealing with multiple objects, keyframes, fcurves and property panels within the animation section. Digital-Tutors created a great series years ago that covered the animation feature sets of C4D but would love to see a modernized visit for R25 and beyond.

Hey Joe. Thank you again for this great 2nd part of Intro to rigging. I was trying to put something together based on what I've learned...but I'm stuck. My story needs the claw to bend once left once right. You showed us how to enforce one way but not to rig it to allow both. I tried with the pole but it twist my geometry. Any hint how I can achieve that. Thank you and cu soon
@Joeherman2 жыл бұрын
Hello, you're welcome! By the way, I will be showing your Lamp piece (time permitting). Regarding your question, a few things come to mind. The first is to rotate the base of the whole claw 180 degrees so that it faces the other way when it wants to bend the other way. Another would be to have the claw in FK mode for that shot which would allow you to bend it any way. Another way would be to use an aim constraint where you wouldn't have to rotate the base. However, I would need to test that out. usually an IK joint bends in only one direction (think elbows and knees). That's why I think the first way would be the best. You should follow my KZbin channel too, as well as this one.

If I weighted the joints for a hand and its fingers, then how would I prevent intersecting of the fingers when clenching to make a fist? Would applying rigged body dynamics be the way to do that?
@Joeherman2 жыл бұрын
Not really. You would really just be careful not to intersect them and if the camera is significantly far away, even if it intersects slightly, it would be hard to notice. You could use dynamics though if you want something to bounce off of the skin.

The bit at 2:11:45 where he shows how to do bulges with a pose morph for animation and he talks about keyframing bulges. C4D actually can automate that with correctional PSD so that you don't need to keyframe bulges, and instead you can animate joints and the correctional PSD will bulge accordingly . However this feature has some catastrophic bugs affecting it right now! given how powerful the c4d engine is, its a huge issue especially when compared to other animation software such as maya which doesn't have this problem when doing the same thing. fixing this bug would be a huge W for c4d! The issue i'm talking about can be seen on a video called 'PSD Pose Space deformation in cinema 4d plus bug fix' and the timestamp is 59:26

Everything is fine till i try to modify or fix little error on weights . As sson as i do it unbinds particular geometry. Worse part is even undoing the steps won’t rebind the geometry i have to manualy bind it again , hence back at start again. 😢

Make sure the Subdivision Surface is turned off, make sure the Cylinder object is selected, make sure the Weight Manager window is exposed. Plus, you should be in "Points" mode if you want to weight.

This is a horribly convoluted Character rigging system Compared to Maya or even Blender with the $40 Auto rig pro & “faceit” face rigging addons. Maxon should have Bought or co-opted the auto rigging system from the guys at 3Dtoall called IKMAX for C4D. I have it for C4DR26 and while it is not as advanced as Blenders Autorig pro or Maya humanIK or Maya Advanced skeleton, it is far and away more quick & effective for getting a variety of usable humanIK control rigs than the tedious slog on display in this webinar. what about mocap retergetting and facial mocap from Ark kit based system or NVIDIAs audio to face.? or reliable Game Character export tools? ALL of this , and more, is available with Maya Advanced skeleton (or blender with $120 worth of ONE TIME PURCHASE addons) Yikes!! I see why Maxon never features Character animation shots on their official demo reels Considering the cost of C4D, Maxon should be embarrassed at the state of it’s Character rigging& animation tools.
